The car turned onto the paved road that led to the Garrison estate. They were a second rate family in New York City, with a lot of influence and connections as they were once a top rate family. However, not many knew their background or how they were able to remain an influential family after the disaster that befell them all those years ago.
Asher Griffin was however very privy to that secret, as they were one of the many families in the country that answered to him. Or rather the power he represented. Either way, he needed a base of operations, and as long as they played their cards right, they could benefit from this arrangement greatly.
The car rolled to a stop in front of the gates of the expansive Garrison estate. The guards at the post were confused, as they weren't alerted by the family higher ups that anyone important was visiting that day.
"Who are you, please? And how may we help you?" One guard approached the car on the driver's side and asked.
Asher didn't reply, it was his driver who did all the talking.
"Someone very important is here to see the family head. We apologise for any inconveniences our visit may cause, but it is very important."
The security guard tried to peer into the car to see who occupied the back seat, but the windows were heavily tinted and the partition was raised, so he was unsuccessful.
Skeptical, he nodded to another guard at the post and gestured for him to open the gates, then watched as the car drove deeper into the estate.
"What if they were frauds?" the other guard asked the one who questioned Asher's driver.
"Then they'll regret ever stepping foot into the Garrison estate. Besides, what if there was really a big shot in that car? My life would be over." the first guard replied with a shrug as the both returned to their duty posts.
Meanwhile, the car had pulled up to the front driveway, where a smartly dressed young man was just heading out of the house. He frowned when the saw the blacked out car sitting parked a few feet away from him.
He watched to see the occupants of the car get out. However, as he saw a shabbily dressed young man step out of the passenger seat in the back, his mood took a downturn.
He thought it was someone highly important who had interrupted him, but it looked like it was just a nobody posturing as someone important, who probably got a fancy car from God knows where.
He was also jealous of the car. It was a new model and a highly limited edition, even his family wasn't able to buy one when it launched.
All this resentment towards the stranger caused him to lash out at the man who was preparing to speak.
"Who are you? And how did you get past the guards at the gate?" The young man, whose name was James Garrison, snapped at Asher.
Asher answered him calmly, "I'm here to see your family head."
James couldn't believe his ears. Just who did this scoundrel think he was that he could just walk up and demand to see their family head? Even he didn't have the authority needed to meet their family head at a whim, and they bore the same surname.
"What? Who do you think you are? Our family head has no time for the likes of you!" James shouted at Asher.
Asher just calmy replied, "I am someone your family head will not like to offend. May I please be taken to see him?"
James thought that the man must be mad. Who else but a crazy person would just walk up and demand to meet the head of one of the most influential families in the city?
"You must be out of your mind," he said to Asher, "by the time we are done dealing with you today, it will act as a reminder on why nobody messes with the Garrison family."
James pulled out his phone and made a phone call, and not too many minutes later, a group of security guards arrived, including the two who let Asher in.
" Who allowed this man entry into the estate?" James aaked the guards.
The two guards in question walked forward, and James looked at them with narrowed eyes.
"So it was you two?" he asked.
The first guard replied in a shaky voice, "We're so s-sorry sir, he had us convinced that he was someone very important."
James regarded them coldly. "I'll let you off lightly, but only if you can do something for me. Beat him up, and the person he came with, but do not damage the car. Not even a scratch should appear on it."
The guards heaved a sigh of relief. If that was all they had to do, then it was no problem at all. They nodded in acknowledgement, but before they could move towards Asher, an authoritative voice called out from the front door,
"What is going on here?"
James turned to see his eldest brother and the family head, Andrew Garrison standing in the doorway. He rushed to him and began pointing at Asher who still stood beside the car, explaining the situation to him.
Andrew frowned as he listened. He wasn't as brash as his youngest brother, and with the serious look he saw on Asher's face, he didn't think he was bluffing. He knew his brother was arrogant and narrow minded, so he didn't take his explanation to heart.
Andrew walked down the front porch steps until he stood in front of Asher.
"And who exactly are you, young man?"
Asher regarded the man who currently stood in front of him, then replied with a question of his own, "Are you the head of the Garrison family?"
Andrew nodded positively in response.
"I'm Asher Griffin Kane. I hope I'm important enough to warrant your attention now." Asher said, looking straight into Andrew's eyes.
Andrew's eyes widened. As he heard the surname Kane, his heartbeat began to quicken. When his family had run into trouble all those years ago, it was because of the help of a certain faction in the Kane clan that they were still able to stand today. The Kane clan was currently one of the seven supreme families of Washington DC.
A small smirk spread on Asher's face as recognition lit up in Andrew's eyes.
Andrew suddenly turned to his brother and slapped him squarely on his right cheek.
"You fool, do you have any idea what trouble you've put us in?"

Asher's Legacy. Chapter One.
The sun had started to set and a cool breeze was blowing. Asher Griffin smiled to himself as he walked down the street towards the Harper's family mansion, where a party was being thrown that night to celebrate the 60th birthday anniversary of Roland Harper, the patriarch of the family and his father in law. He slipped his hand into his pocket and touched the small box he kept there, which made him smile even wider. "Roxanne is going to love this gift," he thought to himself. Today, he had bought Roxanne a necklace with a set of earrings so she could wear for the party. His wife's family looked down on him and treated him like trash because he was poor. When he got married to Roxanne three years ago, the Harpers thought he was a new big shot in the city. Unknown to them, he was just running errands for his boss. He had tried to explain the truth to them, but they never thought to listen to him. As he reached the gates of the mansion, he saw that they were closed. The pressed in th

. Asher was on his way to the estate of the first family on his list when he received a call from Roxanne. "Hello Asher," she said in a small voice over the speaker. On hearing that tone, Asher immediately knew that something was not right. His wife was normally quite calm and soft spoken, but right now something was amiss. "What's wrong my dear?" He asked, concern lacing his tone. "It's my parents," she answered, her voice starting to break. Asher felt unease begin to flow through his veins, but none of it was visible on his face. Hadn't that family hurt them enough? What is it they did this time? "What's happened? How did they hurt you? What did they do?" He asked her in a calm voice.
