The car turned onto the paved road that led to the Garrison estate. They were a second rate family in New York City, with a lot of influence and connections as they were once a top rate family. However, not many knew their background or how they were able to remain an influential family after the disaster that befell them all those years ago.
Asher Griffin was however very privy to that secret, as they were one of the many families in the country that answered to him. Or rather the power he represented. Either way, he needed a base of operations, and as long as they played their cards right, they could benefit from this arrangement greatly.
The car rolled to a stop in front of the gates of the expansive Garrison estate. The guards at the post were confused, as they weren't alerted by the family higher ups that anyone important was visiting that day.
"Who are you, please? And how may we help you?" One guard approached the car on the driver's side and asked.
Asher didn't reply, it was his driver who did all the talking.
"Someone very important is here to see the family head. We apologise for any inconveniences our visit may cause, but it is very important."
The security guard tried to peer into the car to see who occupied the back seat, but the windows were heavily tinted and the partition was raised, so he was unsuccessful.
Skeptical, he nodded to another guard at the post and gestured for him to open the gates, then watched as the car drove deeper into the estate.
"What if they were frauds?" the other guard asked the one who questioned Asher's driver.
"Then they'll regret ever stepping foot into the Garrison estate. Besides, what if there was really a big shot in that car? My life would be over." the first guard replied with a shrug as the both returned to their duty posts.
Meanwhile, the car had pulled up to the front driveway, where a smartly dressed young man was just heading out of the house. He frowned when the saw the blacked out car sitting parked a few feet away from him.
He watched to see the occupants of the car get out. However, as he saw a shabbily dressed young man step out of the passenger seat in the back, his mood took a downturn.
He thought it was someone highly important who had interrupted him, but it looked like it was just a nobody posturing as someone important, who probably got a fancy car from God knows where.
He was also jealous of the car. It was a new model and a highly limited edition, even his family wasn't able to buy one when it launched.
All this resentment towards the stranger caused him to lash out at the man who was preparing to speak.
"Who are you? And how did you get past the guards at the gate?" The young man, whose name was James Garrison, snapped at Asher.
Asher answered him calmly, "I'm here to see your family head."
James couldn't believe his ears. Just who did this scoundrel think he was that he could just walk up and demand to see their family head? Even he didn't have the authority needed to meet their family head at a whim, and they bore the same surname.
"What? Who do you think you are? Our family head has no time for the likes of you!" James shouted at Asher.
Asher just calmy replied, "I am someone your family head will not like to offend. May I please be taken to see him?"
James thought that the man must be mad. Who else but a crazy person would just walk up and demand to meet the head of one of the most influential families in the city?
"You must be out of your mind," he said to Asher, "by the time we are done dealing with you today, it will act as a reminder on why nobody messes with the Garrison family."
James pulled out his phone and made a phone call, and not too many minutes later, a group of security guards arrived, including the two who let Asher in.
" Who allowed this man entry into the estate?" James aaked the guards.
The two guards in question walked forward, and James looked at them with narrowed eyes.
"So it was you two?" he asked.
The first guard replied in a shaky voice, "We're so s-sorry sir, he had us convinced that he was someone very important."
James regarded them coldly. "I'll let you off lightly, but only if you can do something for me. Beat him up, and the person he came with, but do not damage the car. Not even a scratch should appear on it."
The guards heaved a sigh of relief. If that was all they had to do, then it was no problem at all. They nodded in acknowledgement, but before they could move towards Asher, an authoritative voice called out from the front door,
"What is going on here?"
James turned to see his eldest brother and the family head, Andrew Garrison standing in the doorway. He rushed to him and began pointing at Asher who still stood beside the car, explaining the situation to him.
Andrew frowned as he listened. He wasn't as brash as his youngest brother, and with the serious look he saw on Asher's face, he didn't think he was bluffing. He knew his brother was arrogant and narrow minded, so he didn't take his explanation to heart.
Andrew walked down the front porch steps until he stood in front of Asher.
"And who exactly are you, young man?"
Asher regarded the man who currently stood in front of him, then replied with a question of his own, "Are you the head of the Garrison family?"
Andrew nodded positively in response.
"I'm Asher Griffin Kane. I hope I'm important enough to warrant your attention now." Asher said, looking straight into Andrew's eyes.
Andrew's eyes widened. As he heard the surname Kane, his heartbeat began to quicken. When his family had run into trouble all those years ago, it was because of the help of a certain faction in the Kane clan that they were still able to stand today. The Kane clan was currently one of the seven supreme families of Washington DC.
A small smirk spread on Asher's face as recognition lit up in Andrew's eyes.
Andrew suddenly turned to his brother and slapped him squarely on his right cheek.
"You fool, do you have any idea what trouble you've put us in?"

Some people can't recognise greatness even when it stands before them," Andrew tried to suck up to Asher, who only replied with a small smile on his face. Asher then ordered the security guards back to their duty posts. The two guards who had let Asher in bowed and thanked him profusely before rushing back, feeling relief that they had not taken action against him. James, on the other hand was as pale as a sheet. He was currently trembling where he stood by the side. Who exactly had he offended? He had let his arrogance and greed go to his head. He was praying silently that the mysterious man whom even his family head had to respect would have mercy on him. As if Andrew could hear his brother's thoughts, he called him ti kneel in front of Asher and apologise. "Now, apologise to Mr. Kane here. Asher's Legacy. Chapter Eight.
It was a regular afternoon in the Harper Corporation. Somehow, word had gotten out about Roxanne's mission to find new investors or be made to leave her current husband and marry the Larsen's heir, so it was the current hot topic of discussion in the office. "Did you hear the news about Roxanne?" One lady called to another from her cubicle. "Oh yes I did. Such juicy information." The second lady replied. "I really do hope she divorces that her good for nothing husband. I was lucky to see Seth Larsen once, he's so tall and handsome." The first one said, clasping her hands in front of her chest with a dreamy look in her face. "That means you want our company not to get investors?" the second one chided her. "If she marries Seth Larsen, the Larsen's family business will partner with us, so what do we need investors for? Don't forget they're a second rate family." The first lady reminded the second one. "Oh well, you're right. But that's enough Roxanne drama, she's still our boss an

Asher was back in his room at the hotel when he received a phone call from Andrew Garrison. He picked and placed the phone against his ear. "Hello, Andrew. I assume the first thing has been done?" "Yes, Mr. G, done exactly according to your instructions. I even sent my brother as a show of good faith." Andrew's voice came over the phone. "Good. I know that some of your staff may have their reservations, but trust me. I'll send you three hundred million dollars right now as an initial investment." Asher said. "Sir, wow. Thank you sir." Andrew breathed in gratitude. "It's nothing, Andrew. This is just the beginning of what you stand to gain by allying yourself with me." "I understand, sir. I await further instructions.""I'll get back to you when I need you." Asher said. "Yes sir." Andrew said and hung up. Almost immediately, Asher received another call, but this time from Roxanne. "Hello, my dear," he purred into the phone as he picked up. "Asher, you would never believe it!"

As from today, the Harpers disown you as a member of the family. You no longer have any ties to us, social or otherwise. And once we find a way to separate you from Roxanne, it will be permanent."Asher felt nothing as he heard his father in law's words. It changed nothing, they had never treated him like a part of the family anyway. All they did was humiliate and insult him. Roxanne, however, was torn apart. She moved to beg her family but Asher gripped her hand, giving her a small, subtle shake of the head as a signal not to act. She nodded her head, learning to trust her husband in such situations. After Asher left the party, he called a car to come and pick him up. Not too long after that, Liam Garrison came to stand beside him. "Aren't you offended by their actions, sir?" Liam asked him. "And why should I be?" Asher asked, a small smirk stretching his lips. "Sir…" Liam trailed off. "Exactly." Asher stated. "There's no need for me to reveal myself this early, and the Harpers aren't worth me sabotaging myself just this soon. All except one anyway.""I understand." Liam nodded, just as the car arrived. Asher stepped into the backseat of the car and waited as Liam got into the other side. "Where to now, sir?" Liam asked. "I need to find a place to stay. Something more long term. Are there any available properties for sale in the city?" Asher asked. "Yes sir, there are." Liam replied. "I want the absolute best that money can buy, I have a lot of it just sitting in my account collecting dust." Asher said. "In that case sir, I know the perfect place for you to purchase a ho
Asher's Legacy. Chapter Twelve.
Meanwhile, Asher was unaware of the commotion his new purchase had caused in the outside world. He currently sat in the back of his blacked out Rolls Royce, on his way to meet another of New York City's influential families. The Eastwood family was also another first rate family in New York City. They ran in the same circles as the Garrison family, and they were very well known. The dominated the luxury good business in the city, with only a few competitors. They also had very distant ties to the Kane clan, just not as deep and strong as the ties the Garrison family held. The Rolls Royce pulled up in front of the Eastwood manor. The security guards, unlike previous guards that Asher had come in contact with let him through without any hassle. The news about the purchase of the house earlier had everyone on tenterhooks, as nobody wanted to unwittingly offend anybody for now. As the car went round the circular driveway surrounding the manor, it rolled to a stop in front of the main
Asher's Legacy. Chapter Thirteen.
Inside the Eastwood manor, Zachary told Asher to wait in a small parlor, while he went on to get their family head. Not too long after that, Asher heard voices approaching the parlor, just as a distinguished older man came into view. He looked to be in his late 50s, but he was very fit for his age. Asher wasn't surprised, he knew that martial arts was one of the Eastwood's many hobbies. As Asher was sizing the man up, he was also doing the same thing to Asher. Lionel Eastwood wondered just who the young man in front of him was. He seemed to be about the same age with his son, and didn't look like he came from a notable family, if not, he would have recognised him. He waited for Asher to speak first. "You must be the head of the Eastwood family." Asher's voice rang out. A quick flash of displeasure raced through Lionel. He ignored the way Asher spoke to him as an equal and replied, "Watch your tone, boy. You should know how to interact with a family head."Asher just ignored the w

Asher had directed the driver to head towards his new residence because he was in need of a shower and a change of clothes. They were close to the estate when a call came into his phone. He looked down at the caller ID, it was an unsaved number. He picked up the call with a small frown, "Hello? Who is this?" A panicked voice came from the other end, "Hello, Mr. Griffin! Its Mr. Cheng, the manager of the hotel you purchased not too long ago."Recognition dawned on Asher. "Is anything the matter, Mr. Cheng?" "As a matter of fact, yes sir. There's a situation at the hotel, and they won't listen to me. You have to hurry here sir.""They? Who are they?" Asher asked. "They from the mob, sir. They work for-" The line suddenly went dead. Asher stated at the phone, wondering exactly what was going on. He had only bought that hotel as a show of power, but if anyone thought they could mess with him, they were in for a surprise.
