Fifty Two

Grandfather Ashley looked at him and said nothing. After some time, he finally said,

“Get out of my sight!”

“Grandfather, how much of a rebel was my mother, tell me. I want to know.”

“Your mother is the first and only problem this family ever had! If only your father listened and didn't marry her, we would not have such issues. Now, I'm asking you to marry who's right for you and you want to disobey that. Never! It must be the Grant family and that's final!”

With that, grandfather turned and took his leave, leaving Jake to ponder on his words.

His grandfather just said his mother was the first problem the family had. How? And how did his father's marriage become a problem? Did his father reject an arranged marriage too? It also seemed to him that his grandfather had a deep hatred for his mother. This was evident in the way he frowned and gritted his teeth when he was talking about her. Jake promised himself that he would get to the root of the matter.
