BELITTLED SON-IN-LAW

CHAPTER 3

Adrian McCain is a very talented and equipped young man, at the age of twenty three (23) he has accomplished more than all of his contemporaries even though he was an orphan.

With no parents, no one to help, he worked his way to the top amidst all challenges a young man his age with no one to help or assist would face in a harsh world.

But through it all, he won a scholarship to study in one of the best schools and due to his brilliance and intelligent mind, he became a graduate with honors all on his own.

So Adrian McCain took his CV and began applying from one company to the other, he wouldn't give up.

Even though he has a wonderful and perfect C.V he wasn't being accepted by the companies.

At first they will welcome him wholeheartedly but when they saw his name, they would shun him.

This didn't just happen in one company but in all the ones he applied for.

He became depressed since he had no idea whatsoever as to the reason why, he was leaving the last company he went to try but still got rejected.

On his way home, his cell phone rang. He was on foot and wanted to cover some miles on foot before boarding a cab to take him home.

As his phone rang he saw its caller, it was none other than his wife calling him.

'She must be calling to apologize for what she had done to me, I am certain. I don't want to talk to her, but she is someone I love. Let me pick up and hear how she apologizes, that is if I chose to forgive her.' Adrian thought.

He answered his call and was met with a hysterical laughter, it was so loud that his eardrum almost stopped functioning.

"What's so funny?" Adrian asked still not getting it, because he was lost for words.

"I heard about your job seeking escapades dear, you seem to have gone to the entire companies in this town of ours because they kept calling." Linda said with disgust and mockery in her voice.

"I don't get it, what do you mean by that Linda and why were they calling you? You are not the one in charge of my life so why would they call you?" Adrian inquired.

This also brought another form of mockery that Linda just couldn't hold it in anymore.

"I would say you save whatever strength you have left, because I don't think there is any reason for you to." Linda enunciated.

Adrian McCain kept thinking long and hard to understand what this wife of his was trying to pass across but he still wasn't figuring it out.

What was bothering him was the fact that the companies were calling her, why would they?

Yes, the Pierre's are amongst the strongest and most influential families in the country and beyond but then why would they have to call them just because he was seeking a job?

Those were the thoughts that ran through his mind, as if Linda could read his thoughts she then said,

"I know you must be thinking why they would call me for such things. Well the thing is three years ago, as soon as we got married I made a complaint to all companies, those affiliated with ours and those that weren't, that they should never give you any job, should you decide to grow wings and look for a job yourself, so I made sure no company will ever accept to give you a job."

"What are you saying Linda?" Adrian asked, still not getting it.

"I am saying you save yourself the stress and come home to eat more fruits so that you will be healthy enough to give my mother some blood, as the blood bag that you are because that will forever be your only source of income." Linda blurted out and straight to the point.

There was no ounce of emotions or pity in her voice.

"Linda, are you saying you and your family are the reason why I am finding it difficult to secure a job for myself?" Adrian asked, still surprised.

"Yes, that's exactly what I said, I knew this day would come where you will feel like you have a pride and that you want to be a man, well let me tell you something you are worthless. Oh yes, a lazy piece of trash and the only way you will ever earn money is by being my mother's blood bag." Linda enunciated.

This made Adrian very furious at that revelation, he has been trying to get a job for years now, unknown to him that it was the very same woman he married, the very same woman he loved and called his wife that was the one being his very own downfall.

He felt hurt and betrayed at this fact, he was on the roadside when he picked up the phone call, he couldn't move it was like he had suddenly developed cold feet.

He tried walking, but where would he even go? All he had ever known was the Pierre's mansion.

And the thoughts of going back there to be mocked more by his wife was even more draining.

Thinking about the revelation that was revealed, it was so hurting that a tear escaped his eyes, he sat down by the road and began thinking of his life.

How low he had sunk, and the fact that it was the only woman he had ever loved that was the main obstruction to his ambitions.

'How could you do this to me Linda, so all this while I was going out to look for a job you never told me about any of this? Do I really mean nothing to you now? After all we've been through together, I never thought you were making fun of me inside. I never thought you didn't love me, How did I fall into the wrong hands? Have I not suffered enough in life? Is this my punishment for being alive?' He thought.

Just when he wanted to give up on life a luxurious car drove and stopped in front of him.

He became startled by this gesture, he was surprised such a car even existed because it looks like a one of a kind car type of thing.

A young lady, wearing a tight fitting dress that stops just before her knees alighted from the car.

She was wearing a mini skirt and a matching jacket.

She looks quite official in that dress, surprisingly as she got down from the car, she began to walk up to Adrian McCain.

'Am I in trouble? Why is she headed towards me? What is going on? Did my father in-law send her to bring me back to the mansion?' He thought as the young lady got closer and closer to him with each step she took.

Adrian McCain who was already tired of life itself just kept staring at her with no ounce of emotions at all, he sat there feeling lost and helpless.

This stranger stood before him and said,

"Please get in the car."
