Mia trembled. It was bad enough being in a time that wasn't her own but being taken in by the authorities, that was not at all a good start to her being there.
"This necklace symbolizes piracy," Admiral Krenan said, dangling it in his hand. "Are you a pirate?"
She wanted to answer the question truthfully but seeing what had become of her just wearing a pirate necklace she figured it wouldn't be wise for her to do so.
"No," she answered.
"So why were you wearing it around your neck?"
"Because it was given to me."
"By whom?" he asked as he came out from behind his desk and sat down on the edge of his table, right in front of her; an action that made her tremble even more.
She paused for a moment; what was the right way to answer that question without compromising herself more than she already had? "Someone."
"What is your name?"
Again she paused. Saying her name would completely compromise her; she shared the same last name as one of the notorious pirates that terrorized the ocean for many years, the mere mentioning of it would get her into all the trouble. She wanted to give him a fake name obviously but the captain in her wouldn't let her; the captain in her kept on pushing her to just come out with it and so she did.
"My name is Mia Dalhamavaughn," she answered and immediately Admiral Krenan shot to his feet; as the two soldiers looked at each other, down at her and then back at him, the Dalhamavaughn name was one that they knew oh to well and the second it left her mouth he was taken back to the time when piracy was the leach sucking at the core of their nation's development. A leach that brought nothing but chaos and set back so much progress. Hearing of what Capt. Julien Dalhamavaughn did in his days made his blood boil, and hearing his name after so long made it boil just as much. There was a feeling of unfinished business that came with the talk of pirates and Admiral Krenan didn't like it. The queen gave him the order to end piracy in her waters and so he was very eager to get out there and get it done. He heard of Cape Hoolerthund, a pirate island, and knew that if he was going to take down the pirates one by one that was going to be the best place to start so that was where he and his fleet went. They arrived on the island ready for war, ready for blood to end piracy once and for all but it looked like that war had already come. The island was partly on fire when their ships pulled up on the shore and there were bodies of fallen men all over the ground, women too.
Admiral Krenan and his men spread out looking for survivors; survivors that were going to be branded as pirates just because of being found on a pirate island and were going to be imprisoned to be hang later. He wanted the three pirates to be among them but they were nowhere to be found; they were not among the dead nor were they among the living; they were nowhere on Cape Hoolerthund and it left the admiral seeing red. They were the ones he really wanted to take in and see hang but they were gone. He was told by one of the men that had been arrested what happened and he was so mad he almost yelled to the sky. Capt. Jules killed Capt. Zedarh but then he too died and Captains Grovergane and Mohlenar had left so he had done nothing. He had taken Cape Hoolerthund and even renamed it Cape Mackerel but he didn't get the prize he really wanted which was the three pirates because one of them was dead and the other two were gone.
Days passed and he began to search the waters and the nearby islands for Captains Grovergane and Mohlenar but they were nowhere to be found; rumours sprung up that they had died too and so a whole year of searching and not finding anything, the search came to an end and just like that the era of piracy became a thing of the past.
It was a story he was hoping never to hear again but there it was. It reminded him of a thing he wanted so bad but never got and it had him looking like he was about to bite someone's head off, Mia's head.
"That name," he said. "How dare you mention that name in my presence? What relation are you to that filthy pirate?"
"I'm a descendant of his," she answered.
"And he gave this to you?"
"Yes."
Admiral Krenan took a step forward. "Where is he? Tell me where he is now."
"He's dead."
"Lies! He is out there somewhere and you are going to tell me where he is!" the admiral said with his voiced raised.
"He's dead."
He gave out a shout startling her and walked to the window that offered the view of the wide ocean blue and stood there for a moment calming himself with deep breaths. It was clearly a topic that rubbed him the wrong way; one that made him fume. To have caught and killed those pirates would have been his greatest victory, his biggest achievement; one that would have had stories told about him for many, many years to come. He would have absolutely gone down in history for it. It was going to have been his glory but alas that was a glory that was just not meant to be and being drawn back to that time when he was so close to having it all but was just a little too late, filled him with an anger that was never ever going to be quenched.
"Pirates . . . Nothing but pests . . . Digusting filthy pests," he said; looking into the distance but obviously looking back to that day. "They did nothing but fight and take what didn't belong to them. They brought nothing but chaos. Terrorizing what should have been peaceful waters." He turned to her. "And you dare wear this on my island?" He chuckled. "You foolish, foolish little girl. Do you know what we did to pirates back in the day?"
"Yes." Her skin instantly broke out into goose bumps. "You hung them."
"That's right. We wrapped ropes around their neck, we pulled the lever and down the pirates dropped to their deaths. We haven't had a hanging here in five years but I'm sure a rope won't be hard to find."
"You can't hang me," Mia said.
"And why is that?"
She took a moment; thinking to herself as to whether to tell him the truth or not. "Because this is not my time."
"You show up on my island wearing pirate jewellery and it is your time to die."
"No not that, I mean not my time as in . . . The time keeper brought me here. I am from another time and he brought me here because there is something I must do."
Admiral Krenan and the two soldiers looked at each other and back at her.
"We have heard of the time keeper," the admiral said. He was a holy being that had been anointed by a higher power to serve mankind with the gift of sight. No one had ever seen him but they knew he was out there somewhere. "What is this business you have with him?"
"I . . . I can't say."
"Of course you can't," he said and he and the soldiers laughed. "And I'm sure that whatever it is it is of great importance."
"Actually it is," she said and they laughed even more.
"You must think I'm stupid don't you? You have no business with the time keeper, you're just saying that because you want your life to be spared but I will not fall for that. You want to bring back that poison piracy and I will not have that. Bring that filth to this thriving island, over my dead body. You were found wearing pirate jewellery so you are a pirate and as the rules are to hang such, come of you tomorrow that shall be your fate. Take her away and go and lock her up in one of the holding cells."
"No wait. Hey! Stop! Wait!" she shouted as the two soldiers began dragging her out of the admiral's office; with the admiral returning to his chair. "Please admiral, what I have to do is very important. If you kill me it could lead to the destruction of the whole world, admiral!" she went on as he just sat there looking closely at the necklace.
Just then a small knock came to the door and a second later it swung open and in walked a young man; dressed in uniform just like the soldiers.
"Uh Mathew you're here, come in," Admiral Krenan said smiling.
The two soldiers stopped as he walked further in and looking at him Mia gasped; her jaw dropping almost all the way down to the floor and her eyes widening to the size of the ocean.
"Oh my gosh." Her heart skipped a beat; so heavy she began to hyperventilate. "Peter?" she gently called out to him.
Mathew stopped and looked at her. Mathew who looked exactly like Peter; everything from the colour of his eyes, the colour of his hair, his build and his height. Mathew was Peter. And when their eyes met immediately a floating feeling came to his spirit; like leaves on the ground that had suddenly been blown up into the air by the softest wind. Like the sweetest touch came to his heart; so sweet it scared him because he had never ever felt that way before. Who was this woman? One look at her and it felt like brand new life had been breathed into him and her, she was 100% certain she was looking at the love of her life; the fiancé she was supposed to have been getting married to the following day. Why wouldn't she think it was him? Mathew looked exactly like him.
"Peter," she said with hearts in her eyes; she thought she had travelled back in time all by herself but there her fiancé was; just as gorgeous as she remembered and his beautiful eyes making her feel the way they always did, like she wanted to be nowhere else but right where he was so that she could get even further lost in them. Out of nowhere Mia ran towards him, getting free of the grip the two soldiers had on her and without even saying anything else moved in and kissed him, still with her hands cuffed behind her back.
Mia placed her soft lips against his and her kiss was like lightning; electrifying every single one of his nerves it was like his entire soul had been set on fire. Admiral Krenan and the two soldiers gasped; she just ran up to Mathew and straight up kissed him.
It was completely out of the blue what happened and so the most logical way for Mathew to react was to either push her back or pull away from her because she was a total stranger but no. He had never seen her a day in his life and there she was not only standing extremely close to him but she had her lips on him. Her soft lips that were like poison to his system all he could do was just stand there and kiss her back. It was a small kiss but it was packed with everything and with how her lips perfectly fit against his, it was like they were made for his and his for hers.
"Hey! You! Stop that!" Admiral Krenan shouted. "You two, get her off of him, now!"
The two soldiers ran and grabbed her; pulling her back with Mathew following her lips a little wanting more but quickly gathering himself, coming back to reality from the trance her kiss had pulled him into.
"How dare you put your dirty pirate lips on him," the admiral said.
"Peter it's me. Baby it's me," Mia said and Mathew just stood there looking at her; obviously still taken by the kiss but by why this strange woman was looking at him the way that she was and calling him by a name that wasn't his. A beautiful woman who in the strangest way he felt like he had met before. Like he had seen her somewhere. Maybe she walked his dreams a few times he didn't know, all he knew was that there was something there; something that was pulling their hearts together and whatever it was it was strong. "It's me. Oh my gosh." She started to tear up. She had been a lost little girl since travelling back in time but in that moment she wasn't lost anymore. In looking into his eyes she had found her way back home and it was one of the most amazing feelings. "I thought I had been brought here all by myself and that I was never going to see you again. But you're here. Oh my gosh you're here, you have no idea how happy I am to see you. It's only been a day but I have missed you so, so much."
Mathew looked to the admiral, who also looked at him and together they looked back at her. "I uh . . . I'm sorry but you must have me mistaken with someone else, I am not Peter. My name is Mathew . . . I'm the admiral's son."
Night fell and Mia had been locked up in one of the holding cells; sitting quietly to herself in the corner with her arms wrapped around her body whilst trying not to panic about what was going to become of her. The night was quiet and there was a bright full moon in the dark sky; she could see its blue light come in through the small barred window that looked out into the ocean. The cell was small; and its walls were rough and cold; she needed a blanket, a small fire would do too but she had none, all she had to keep her warm was her dress and it wasn't doing a very good job, what a long night it was going to be? Just then the main gate to the holding cells was unlocked and swung open and a moment later someone walked into Mia's sight; the sight of him immediately causing her heart to do that thing it always did when she laid her eyes upon her lover. It wasn't her lover but it was a perfect replica of him and that was more than close enough. And the way he looked with the moonlight
Mathew arrived home. He lived with his father in a fancy two story house right in the middle of the island; enclosed in a metal barred fence and with armed soldiers patrolling the grounds. It was almost mid-night and Admiral Krenan was in his study. On another night he would have been in there catching up on his reading whilst sipping on a cup of tea but on that night he wasn't, instead he was sitting back in his chair looking down at Mia's pirate necklace on his table; in almost a mad way. Looking at it as though he had asked it something and was waiting for it to answer. Pirates on his island, it couldn't be. He and his army had worked so hard to end piracy and now could it be on the verge of coming back, if he could he would have grabbed the necklace and just crushed it to dust in his hand. He would have reduced it to nothing because what it represented was an insult to who he was. Piracy was unlawful and he was the law and so staring on at the necklace and wondering if it was jus
Mathew grabbed a horse from the stable and flew to the fort. It was under attack. The explosions that were heard was the impact of the cannon balls blasting through the main gate and part of the fort wall. The next thing gun fire was heard; gun fire that sounded like it was coming from two different directions so two sides were obviously going at it; the soldiers holding down the fort and whoever had attacked it. Mia had heard it too and was standing by the bars looking in the direction of the main gate wondering just what was going on out there. It was two groups of men; one group was located in the trees and was equipped with cannons that after firing at the gate and parts of the walls were aimed at the guard houses and the other group ran into the fort throwing smoke bombs into the parade ground and shooting their pistols at the soldiers that were coming at them. The smoke spread and covered the entire parade ground and the soldiers lost sight of the men who knew exactly what the
The ship Mr. Bear hired out had set sail; sailing along the calm waters of the ocean under the bright light of the full moon. He, the men he rescued Mia with and a few others, Mia herself and Mathew; she asked him to come with them and he said yes and they stood together by the taff rail looking back at Cape Mackerel and the fort that they had destroyed. It wasn't on fire but it had suffered massive damage; three of the guard houses had been destroyed, the gate had been completely shattered and there were a good number of holes that had been blown through the fort wall. The smoke had finally cleared but it was too late; the men that had attacked the fort were gone and all that remained was some major cleaning up and fixing to do. Meanwhile on the ocean, the ship sailed on. It was a medium sized sailing ship made of dark brown wood and had cream white sails. A fifteen man crew ship with a man at the helm and the man in charge standing next to him. Mia and Mathew stood on as the gentl
Morning came and the ship docked on the shores of the island of Pensure; another small island to the south of Cape Mackerel. The sands were white, there were a lot of busy trees, the houses were small and made of wood that had been vanished and there was a large rock formation on the other side of the island. On the shore were a few small boats, a few men sitting on wooden crates mending a large finishing net, a group of children running around and there was a gravel path that led into the town where the market was; a place where all sorts of things were sold not just on stands but in small shops. Mia, Mathew and Mr. Bear went ashore, whilst the rest remained on the ship. They made their way down the dock taking in the simple island scenery. They reached the end of it and stood looking around some more; this time wondering where to start looking for Capt. Grovergane. "Right then, he could be anywhere," Mr. Bear said. "How are we going to find him?" Mia looked to her left where the
The next moment, Mia, Mathew and Mr. Bear had been let into Capt. Grovergane's house and they were sitting in the tiny living room/kitchen talking; with a door to the left that led to his bedroom and one to the right that led to the bathroom. "Goodness." Capt. Grovergane sat in his chair looking closely at Mia. "It's not you but . . . It's you . . . What is the meaning of this," he said. "My name is Mia Dalhamavaughn," she said. "I didn't know he had a child." "He didn't, well maybe he did but not me. I'm not his child." "You carry his name and you look like him," Capt. Grovergane said. "Yes, so I've been told but no. I'm not his child." "So who are you?" "I am a descendant of his," she answered. "From another time. A time long after this one. I was brought back by the time keeper because there is some unfinished business that needs to be finished." "A descendant of Capt. Jules?" "Yes." "Where is Capt. Jules?" Capt. Grovergane asked; it was a question he sort of knew the an
Morning came and the ship reached La Hannah and pulled up by the dock. It had just about the same feel as Pensure but it was three times bigger and so had more people. There were men carving a small boat, men out in the water throwing fishing nets into the water, men by a stand gutting, cleaning, salting and drying fish and men sitting under a large open tent weaving baskets; each one of them busy at their work. Mia left the ship with Mathew, Mr. Bear and Capt. Grovergane and they approached the group of men that were carving the small boat; the group that was nearest to the dock. "Good morning," she greeted and the men paused their work and looked at her and then at her company. "Good morning," one of the men answered; wearing nothing but trousers that had been folded up at the bottom. "Sorry to disturb you but we're looking for someone." "O.k." "Marilyn Gripp," Mia said and Mathew and Capt. Grovergane turned their heads to her as Mr. Bear just smiled to himself. They were there
The ship left the dock and began to sail out. Capt. Mohlenar had said his bit about just how he felt about them heading to Bara Drayago but he had chosen to tag along; his presence was needed and so he put aside his clear fear of the place and joined the company, bringing new life back to the trust. He too dove into his stashed away pirate chest and got his best hat and coat on and was very much ready for the adventure; a black leather tricorn hat and a brown coat. Mia was standing at the helm dressed ready for the adventure as well. Capt. Mohlenar had a coat and a hat of Capt. Jules in his posession and so like his own he dusted them and gave them to her and she proudly put them on; a wide black suede hat and a maroon coat with golden embroidery on it, nicely put together with some of the clothes that the many women that had slept over at his house had left behind; a white blouse, a navy blue corset, knee high maroon suede boots that matched the coat, slick black pants and two thick
The following day came and it was her wedding day. Mia and Peter exchanged vows and it was a beautiful celebration; a colourful beach wedding with all the guests gushing at how cute they were and looked together. They both said ‘I do’ and they were announced husband and wife, and as they moved into each other to share their first kiss as Mr. and Mrs. Krenan the guests ululated for them. Night fell and the reception was held and in one of the hotel’s halls the bride and groom enjoyed the night with their friends and family; drinking, dancing and just having themselves a good time. Early morning came and as Mia and Peter were in bed sleeping, a sound came from the living room of their honeymoon suite; the sound of footsteps, there was someone walking around in their suite. Mia opened her eyes and lifted her head off the pillow to get a better listen but the moment she did the sound of the footsteps stopped. She then looked behind her to see if Peter was the one who was out there becaus
Capt. Jules dipped his hand into Capt. Zedarh’s inner jacket pocket and pulled out the missing piece. “I win,” he said and pulled his sword out of Capt. Zedarh’s chest and kicked him back. He then quickly walked up to Mia who was still on the ground, now with streams of tears running down her face. He reached her and looking down at her like he did before he then held his hand out to her. Mia looked down at it and then back up at him and grabbed it, and he pulled her up to her feet. “Oh my . . . Look at you . . . You look like my mother . . . You look exactly like her,” he said and gave a faint smile. “What is your name?” “Mia,” she answered. “Mia Dalhamavaughn.” His smile grew wider as his dead eyes began to tear up. “You bear her name was well.” More tears ran down Mia’s face; he looked nothing like he did in the photos her mother showed to her but the connection was still there and it was strong. “Here, take this, there’s not much time left,” he said and handed the piece over
Mia went on searching Capt. Zedarh’s cave of treasures for the missing piece of Galagus’s hands of time but it was nowhere to be found. She looked from pile to pile but there was no sign of it. Just then a strange feeling came over her and she stopped for a moment and looked into herself. She felt not like herself; like she had to remind herself that she was her. She then touched her face and her body to feel if it was still her, and looked down at her hands; there wasn’t a clear difference but there was something different about her and she could feel it like the clothes on her body. “Uh Dalagus?” she called out to him. “Yes Mia,” Dalagus responded; with him and the others still holding the hands of time apart. “I uh . . . I think something’s wrong.” “Yes and we’re trying to fix it. Find the piece quickly Mia, the world is wasting away, we don’t have much time. Hurry!” “No, with me, I think there’s something wrong with me.” “What do you mean?” “What’s going on Dalhamavaughn, fi
The fight between the living and the dead carried on as Capt. Zedarh popped up from behind his men and fought Mia one on one; their swords clinking here and there as they tried to get each other, as her crew went on fighting the others, stabbing them in their dead flesh and shoving, kicking and even punching them over the side of the walkway. Capt. Zedarh was the most feared pirate in the waters, his mere name sent shivers down people’s spines, he commanded three ships at the same time which meant that he had three times the crew and three times the chance of winning any clash and that was who she was fighting? If it wasn’t for the Dalhamavaughn blood that ran through her veins she wouldn’t have stood as strong as she did. Capt. Jules was an excellent swordsman and those skills were the ones she used to match up to Capt. Zedarh’s, which were just as excellent. Which was why the fight they had five years ago took so long and ended up claiming both of their lives, because they were equa
Mia and her crew reached the coast of the island and managed to flag down a cargo ship and all the way back to the cave of time they went, as the thunder roared on and the green lightning flashed on in the stormy skies. They had gone back to rescue the others that had been caught by the trolls spit balls and so their number was back up; with each one of them shaken to their bones over what was going on. Some damage had clearly been done but the question was what was the extent of said damage? Was it something that they could be able to turn around or was what was happening a done deal? Only time would tell. They reached the stone platform in the middle of the ocean and because the storm was more on the calmer side than it was the wilder side, they managed to reach there with no trouble at all. The ship came to a stop and Mia and Mr. Bear made their way down the staircase and then the walkway to the cave of time as the rest remained on board. They were the ones that had been summoned b
Mia and her crew managed to escape the bats, with no one else succumbing to being eaten, and continued trying to find their way out of the cave and back onto real ground; turning left and right through another network of tunnels and coming to another cave, a much smaller one this time, with large roots poking out of one side of the walls, large roots they quickly began to climb as they led up to their way out, a big hole in the ground. They made it out and they were back in the forest; looking in all directions to make sure there was no creature anywhere near them to attack them. “Does anyone see anything?” Mia asked as they looked on. “No, it’s clear this way,” Capt. Grovergane answered. “It’s clear this way too,” Capt. Mohlenar said. “I think we’re in the clear . . . For now,” Mathew said. “Alright, we keep making our way to the coast,” she said. “To flag down a ship and return home?” Capt. Mohlenar asked. “If by home you mean going to see the time keeper and telling him that
Mia and her crew faced up to the creature and it was a tough fight. It kept swinging its tentacles at them to either grab them, hit them or crush them and they kept slicing at them with their swords and knives, dodging them and moving out of their way respectively. With how it had been grabbing them and pulling them back they knew that because they couldn't outrun it it would have continued to do so until it eventually feasted on them all and so though it was a crazy option fighting it and killing it was the best chance they had of making it out alive. They fought on against the odds and were actually doing something; despite the crew men being hit hard against the walls by the creature’s tentacles. Their knives were not big nor were they sharp enough to defend them as well as the swords were defending the others and so they got themselves quite the beating, with four out of six of them being hit so hard that when they dropped to the ground they stayed down, with the others still cons
Mia and her crew swam to the shores of the lake and looked around at where they had fallen. They were in a cave with an intricate network of irregular shaped tunnels in it; tunnels that looked like they had been made by something burrowing through the ground.“Goodness, now where are we?” Capt. Mohlenar asked as he and his fellow pirate captains shook the water off of their hats and put them back onto their heads.“I don’t know but by the looks of it . . . I’d say nowhere good,” Mia answered.“How are we going to get back up there?” Mr. Bear asked.“We can’t we’re just going to have to find another way out.”“How? We don’t even know where we are,” Capt. Grovergane said.“We just keep moving until we find our way out.”“Through these tunnels?” Capt. Mohlenar asked.“Yes.”“I don’t like the look of them.”“Neither do I,” Capt. Grovergane agreed.“Neither do I but we can’t get up there so the only other chance we have at getting out of here is through the tunnels,” she said.“What if the
The ship got completely swallowed by the giant whirlpool and underneath it was broken apart, with everyone on board, along with a few broken pieces of the ship, being sucked through the whirlpool spiral at such tremendous speeds they didn’t even know what was going on, all they knew was to hold their breaths. They couldn’t even open their eyes to see what was going on because they were moving way too fast; almost with a speed of a bullet. Suddenly, they stopped moving and when they opened their eyes they saw light above and swam for it. They broke through the surface of the water one right after the other taking in the hugest of breaths, with some of them even coughing from having swallowed a few cups of water, and got into looking around as to just where the whirlpool spiral had spat them out. There was a gorgeous waterfall behind them and all around was a thick and lush green forest, like they had just been spat out in the A****n. They then swam to the shore, with the pirate captain
