Days later, Ellis's internship at the Royale Company kicked off. He straightened his simple button-down shirt and ran a hand through his hair as he pulled into the parking lot of the Royale Company. It was his first day working at the prestigious company and he wanted to make a good impression. Which was why he had decided to go there before Mr Cyrus, and in a small car that would not betray his status. It was not only his car that was simple. Ellis's attire was a simple one of a t-shirt, dress pants and a pair of not-so-expensive sneakers, and glasses though he didn’t need them to see. He just wore the glasses because they made him look more smart.

Ellis had woken up that morning, determined to look casual because this was not one of those days when he wanted to show off. He much preferred a simple look. Classy but simple. He was going to start his training from a low position as proposed by the board members, so he saw no need to dress flashy. He wasn’t here to impress anyone with

For the next couple of long hours, Paulina walked Ellis through training modules and got him up to speed on Royale's marketing objectives, initiatives, brand guidelines and more. She patiently answered all his questions and made him feel right at home. He knew he was going to enjoy working with her.As they wrapped up the training just before noon, Derek strode over with another sharply-dressed man in tow – a towering, broad-shouldered man in an impeccably tailored grey pinstriped suit. His slightly long grey hair was slicked back, giving him the look of a polished senior executive."Ellis, I'd like you to meet Mr Dennis Kingsley, the chief director of the marketing department. He holds an important place in this company and is responsible for the genius that the marketing department is" Derek said in a tone that somehow managed to be both obsequious and smug simultaneously.Ellis nodded. Straightening his shirt, Ellis stood up quickly and leaned across his cubicle desk to shake Mr. D

Anne stared at her reflection in the chauffeured town car's tinted window, carefully inspecting her made-up face and perfectly coiffed blonde hair. She smoothed out an invisible wrinkle in the shimmering blue satin gown that had been tailored to her petite frame. At nineteen years old, she was already an expert at cultivating her image as the beautiful daughter of one of the state's most powerful senators. As the car rolled to a stop in front of the grand entrance to the place where the charity event took place, Anne took a deep breath. This was her first major public appearance since a scandal last year involving naked photos of her and her ex-boyfriend. Her father had been furious when the photos leaked, fearing it would derail his political ambitions. But the whole thing had eventually blown over with some intense PR cleanup. Still, Anne knew tonight she would be under scrutiny. Anyways, she let out a deep breath and was grateful that Ellis had asked her to be his date at this ev

Anne's heart raced as her phone buzzed with a call. She quickly found her phone from her purse, so as to pick the call. Somehow, calls made her nervous, and even though she would not say it to anyone, she preferred texts. She looked at the phone. It was Ellis. Her trepidation left immediately. She had hoped he would call her after the event, but he never did. She did something, and now he was calling, she could already guess why. "Hello?" she answered sweetly. "Anne. We need to talk," his voice was stern, leaving no room for pleasantries."Oh, hi Ellis. What's up?" she feigned innocence, even though she knew exactly what this was about."Cut the act, Anne. I've been hearing some rumours going around town about you telling people that we're in a relationship," he said, his tone laced with anger. Anne felt her cheeks flush with embarrassment. She had hoped the rumours wouldn't reach Ellis's ears so soon, but she should have known better. It was her doing, yes. But she did not expect

Emily sat rigidly in the back of her Uncle's car, drumming her freshly manicured nails against the armrest as she watched the city streets passing by outside the tinted windows. Her eyes were narrowed, her lips pursed into a thin line of determination mixed with disdain. She hated how crowded the streets were around this time of day. Ever since the scandal with her parents, she had been living with other relatives.Currently, she was on her way to have lunch at the palatial home of one of the school's private club society queens and her old friend, Margot Kenny. Emily needed to get into Margot's good graces again after a falling out the previous year. Because if she was going to successfully execute her grand plan of reconnecting with Ellis again, she would need Margot's assistance. She had initially given up on pursuing him, but after seeing Ellis appear in Forbes list, she changed her mind. But she decided that she would be more subtle this time. She would pretend to change her char

Anne was soaking up all the attention from being the school’s Queen. She had also managed to convince Ellis to hold on a little bit before she would tell everyone the truth that they weren’t together. She begged him to not destroy her reputation by being the one to tell everyone that she lied. He decided to just give her the benefit of the doubt. She promised to find some other reason for the truth that would be less humiliating. Days and days passed without the girls actually confronting each other, until one day at school when they accidentally ran into each other at the restroom. Emily sighed as she pushed open the door to the ladies' restroom. It had been a long day at school already and it wasn't even lunchtime yet. She just needed a few minutes to herself to regroup. She was basically a pariah in school now. All her friends had left her, either because they didn’t want to get in Ellis’ bad book for being on her side, or because they were following Anne about. As she walked t

The harsh fluorescent lights of the restroom became even harsher as Emily splashed cold water on her face. Her mascara had smudged into dark tracks, and the tear streaks stained her cheeks. Anne's parting words echoed in her head. She had never been called ugly before, and especially not by some girl that she was now fighting over Ellis with. Emily bubbled with fury that was hotter than the tears rolling down her cheeks. She could not even believe that she was crying because of that good for nothing Anne. Anne, with her perfectly coiffed hair and that annoyingly condescending laugh, had put her in her place. So much for a confrontation! She had really hoped to be the one putting someone in place as it regarded her and Anne, but here she was sobbing like a middle school girl just because she had been called ugly. She straightened her back after wiping the last streak of tears from her left cheek and looked at herself in the mirror. She was done crying. Now was time for some confidenc

Anne was feeling satisfied with herself. She felt like had conquered Emily and whatever confidence it was that Emily had left. Now, she had to do something that Emily could never bring herself to do. Anne decided to go look for Ellis at the Royale mansion that evening after school, since he had not been in school that day. She wondered why he did not come. She would feign concern for Ellis's absence at school, and do what she had ultimately come for. To tell a lie against Emily. Anne knew that Emily was dead to Ellis and she decided to use this to her own advantage. She wanted to play the smart, quick game. And so, that evening, Anne made her way to the Royale mansion in her expensive car. She had dressed up in what she considered beautiful — a very short leather skirt that exposed her thighs and a crop top that exposed her belly. She was looking provocative, which was another of her aims. To seduce Ellis. The Royale gates swung open, to reveal a manicured expanse of lawn and a spraw

He had no idea that Mr Cyrus didn’t like her father, and that dislike extended to her and her whole family. They were known for using underhanded tactics to achieve their aim. Just like how her father used blackmail to ensure that Mr Cyrus would make Ellis go with Anne. Mr Cyrus wasn’t stupid, he knew that the man’s aim was to make Ellis like Anne so Anne would become the next Mrs Royale. And from the look of things, Anne was also in on her father’s plan. "How is your father? How is he recovering from the financial scandal He got himself into recently?" Mr Cyrus replied without smiling back at her or being polite.Anne's heart plummeted. The bell above the door jingled merrily as Ellis pushed it open, cradling his newborn son Derek in his arms. Zoey watched them both, her face glowing with joy and fatigue after the difficult labor. After the tumultuous path that had led him here - the battles with rivals, the crushing workload, the periods of self-doubt - he had truly found peace at last. His company was thriving, his beautiful wife was by his side, and now they had brought new life into the world. As he gazed down at Derek's tiny, scrunched-up face, Ellis felt a surge of fierce, protective love unlike anything he had experienced before. "Welcome, little man," Ellis murmured, leaning down to kiss his son's head. The click of stiletto heels on hardwood announced the arrival of Amelia, Ellis's indispensable executive assistant. Her usual brisk demeanor melted into a warm smile as she caught sight of the family. "Congratulations, you two," she said, placing a gentle hand on Derek's back. "He's absolutely precious." Zo

You didn't deserve that at all," Emily went on, her eyes glistening with sincerity. "But I hope I can show you both through my sustained actions and personal growth that I'm not that toxic, jealous person anymore who let obsession cloud my judgment so severely."Zoey gave her a sad smile, her eyes still holding remnants of past hurt. "It's going to take time, Emily. A lot of time. You have to understand how profoundly your lies and manipulation destabilized my relationship with Ellis.""I know," Emily replied solemnly. And she cried over the self-loathing and remorse she felt for letting herself become such an ugly, selfish person for a period of time due to her unhealthy jealousy.Deep down, Emily realized she may have permanently burned the bridge of friendship with Ellis and her based on her actions. DEFEATED THE EVIL

Meanwhile, in Ellis’ mind, he was in a chamber he didn’t recognise, standing alone. He looked around but he couldn’t find a way out of the place. There were no walls, no windows, no lower basement entrance. He tried touching the walls to see if there was a secret passage, but nothing happened. He called out several times, but got no response. He didn’t know what to do, and though he vaguely knew that it was a dream, he still felt a little weird, like it was actually happening. After several failed attempts to escape the weird chamber, he sat on the floor and began to meditate. He tried to reach for his aura deep within him, to see if it could somehow lead him out of there. He could feel the Qi, but it was not obeying his command. It was like it was locked down somehow. But he didn’t give up, he remained in a meditative pose, and calmed himself down till his heart rate slowed considerably. While in that state, he heard a voice. “Congratulations, you passed the test. HONEYMOON

For their honeymoon, Zoey was ecstatic when Ellis took her to the Maldives. She had always wanted to visit there. And not just that, Ellis had also purchased a private island in Zoey’s name, so she could always come there at any time. He planned to have a beach villa built there later so they could use it as a vacation spot, but for the time being, just a log cabin had been erected. The log cabin had modern amenities, like a hot tub, kitchen with up to date appliances, running water, a standby generator, etc. But it also had rustic features like a real fireplace with a chimney, an outdoor grill pit, a cleared out campsite, and a small lake instead of a swimming pool. The place was beautiful. They spent their first night there in bed all day, then they slept till afternoon. After waking, their meal had already been prepared by the local chef Ellis had hired. WEDDING

As the months ticked by, everything slowly started falling into place. Zoey's dress was altered to perfection. The venue was booked and the menu tasting was complete — they selected a seasonal tasting menu with locally-sourced ingredients. The cake was a delicious vanilla sponge with tart lemon curd filling and a Swiss meringue buttercream frosting. One of Zoey's favorite touches was Gemma's idea to have a "coffee bar" at the reception with gourmet coffee drinks, flavored syrups and delicious accompaniments like biscotti and cannoli. She knew their guests would appreciate a delicious caffeinated pick-me-up after dancing the night away.In the last few weeks leading up to the wedding, Zoey was a bundle of nervous excitement. She tried her best to get enough rest and stay hydrated, knowing she needed to be in top form for the biggest day of her life. Ellis, on the other hand, seemed to take everything in stride. None of his party friends even visited, or tried to help him. He thought they would have his back, but now his eyes had cleared. His thoughts often drifted to Lisa, the wife whose unconditional love he had so wantonly discarded in pursuit of shallow gratification.
