Phantom

“Thank you,” replied Isaac coldly.

After he learned his name, Phantom, he acted like how the name described. His personality should be cold and should be narcissistic. However, he didn’t know how to act like the latter because he never considered himself the main character. He was always humble and prideful but not overly arrogant. Therefore, he decide to act naturally as he could.

“Phantom, I heard your flying skill is faster than any other flying monster. In addition, even the king greatly always praises you because of your astonishing skill to act as a spy and scout to other races without being discovered once. He was disheartened when he heard about your sudden disappearance, but when he discovered you are still alive and thought should discover a hidden place.

He immediately gathered five hundred of us to follow you and accompany you in conquest. After that, he wanted to report you to him,” said the mosquito in the middle of the group.

He then continued. “However, we can’t match your flying skill and we wanted to stabilize the kingdom you discovered. Therefore, we wanted to ask, can you report to the king alone? We will greatly appreciate your understanding.”

The other four mosquito monster immediately nodded their head and looked at Isaac with pitiful eyes. However, Isaac didn’t buy them as he thought they should probably want to plunder any valuable resources before the so-called king came.

Meanwhile, Isaac couldn’t help but continued to think about them mentioning how fast his flying skill was. He decided to ask them in an intimidating manner, so they would only think he wanted them to continue to praise him more.

“How fast am I really?”

The five of them immediately felt pressured by Isaac’s tone, bearing, and cold stare. They didn’t think Isaac forgot how fast he was and only speculated Isaac must have wanted them to praise him. However, they couldn’t lie because they felt they would be killed in an instant if they did. Therefore, they immediately replied while stuttering.

“T-To be honest, you are so fast that we sometimes couldn’t spot your image whenever we accompany you to hunt monsters and beasts. In addition, even the king felt threatened by your skill. However, the king is strong and always believed in the loyalty you have always sworn to him.”

“T-That’s right.”

“I also accompany you once when we hunted a three-legged long tongue-red toad, and you bleed him to death while dodging the long tongue effortlessly. I still could imagine how scary those fast and swift long tongue was. I can even confirm I can’t dodge a single one of them, while you could even a dozen or thousands of them!”

As Isaac continued to listen to their bootlicking, he was nearing understanding the previous owner of the body. He couldn’t forget about the mosquito mentioning Phantom earlier, and how they acted towards him.

Phantom should be friendly, humble, and easy to fool.

This completely contrasted with how Isaac acted right now. Therefore, without hesitation, Isaac immediately replied while feeling embarrassed.

“You flattered me.” Isaac giggled.

The five mosquitoes heaved a sigh of relief, knowing the usual Phantom was back. They thought for a moment they had mistaken the Phantom in front of them, but seeing his response to their praises. They couldn’t help but sneer.

“It’s nothing,” said the mosquito in the middle of the group. “Can I ask Phantom now to report yourself to the King?”

“Sure,” replied Isaac. “However, first I wanted to make a request.”

The middle of the mosquito, who acted like their leader, couldn’t help but be pissed. They were getting impatient and wanted nothing but to beat up Isaac so he would listen to them. However, do they have the power to achieve that? Unless they wanted to be killed. Although it might not be probable from Isaac’s personality, the chance of angering the King was high.

“What is it?”

“You see, I meet this goblin sibling, and I wanted to protect them…”

Silence enveloped the surroundings, and the Mosquito group, especially the leader, was dumbfounded by Phantom’s request. They shouldn’t be surprised Phantom would make a strange request. They recalled Phantom would only be ruthless to other monsters and beasts, but he would immediately be kind to them once he spotted them being injured or harmless.

“Ah! You don’t have to worry about their potential to threaten us. The little girl is sick, and the little brother doesn’t even know how to use a weapon. Therefore, there’s no need to kill them at all. In addition to the annihilation of other goblins, there’s no one to rescue them. Don’t worry, I will take care of them, so if they suddenly cause harm to our race, I will bear the responsibility.”

“That’s not the problem, Phantom,” said the rightest side of the group.

“It will be hard to satisfy your request, Phantom. After all, it would be better to kill them,” said the further left of the middle of the group.

“What did you say?” Isaac immediately erupted.

Thankfully, he wasn’t far from the usual Phantom, who would immediately be enraged once his kin acted toward another race that was powerless. There’s no need to talk about the other harmless goblins being massacred, though, since the current Isaac wasn’t as kind as Phantom.

“Idiot!” The leader immediately scolded his follower. “It’s a misunderstanding, Phantom. He meant they might have hidden weapons or something that could threaten us. However, there’s no need to worry. With you taking care of them, they literally can’t do evil things to us.”

Isaac knew what he was saying, with him bearing the responsibility of the two helpless goblins. He would be punished once something happened in which the goblin sibling was involved. To sum up, the leader wouldn't want to be involved if things went wrong with the goblin sibling.

‘The Phantom you knew might be fooled, but I’m not. There’s nothing to worry about, though. As long as they are safe, that’s everything that matters.’

Isaac sneered silently before thanking the group profusely. The group immediately has their usual enthusiasm by feeling embarrassed by Phantom’s gratefulness, but their pride almost surpasses the mountain peak.

Isaac couldn’t help but laugh silently, knowing he could fool them. Although his other kin might treat him as a gullible idiotic person, it was good for him.
