03: Another Man

Life is always bittersweet.

Some days, you are having the best day of your life but someone out there is having the worst. For Damien, he was having the best and the worst at the same time.

His eyes moved from the paper that Nadia was holding in her hand to Nadia’s cold and unfeeling eyes.

“You want a divorce?” He finally asked.

His voice was dry and a little rough. Conveying all his emotions.

“If you want me to give you some money to help you tide over, it’s not impossible. However, you must sign another additional contract where you are not allowed to ever mention that we knew each other.”

Damien’s fists clenched tightly.

“Is anyone forcing you to do this?”

They had known each other since high school. How could she be so eager to cut things off with him?

However, Nadia threw her head back in laughter.

“Force?” When she met his gaze again, there was a sneer dancing on her lips.

“You still think so highly of yourself, Damien.”

“Do you think you are still some high school prince? Even your looks aren’t that outstanding anymore. As for me, it’s good enough that I have endured being tied to you for the last three years…” she paused, her eyes drifting to the wall clock in the room.

“At first, because of my naivety, I thought you would be able to do some ground breaking things. But now, I know your type the best.”

“And you still think that I would want something to do with you?”

Perhaps there had been moments where people had disregarded him like these in the past. But everytime, he had never minded and even always proved them wrong. But this time, it was the woman that he had always imagined that he would spend the rest of his life with.

That degrading and disdainful look in her eyes was the most blinding, even though he loved her so much, he was not a Buddha that he could still think that she loved him.

Damien took a deep breath and if Nadia paid attention, she would have seen the slight tremble in his fingers.

“Do you have a printer here?” He finally asked.

Nadia gave him a cynical expression as she was trying to figure out what his plan is. After a while, her lips curled up in a smile.

“Oh, you have chosen the option where I give you a settlement f*e?”

“We need two copies of the divorce papers.”

Nadia looked at him, her brows rising a little as she felt that he was accepting too easily.

Perhaps after all these years of being in the limelight, even she didn’t understand how twisted she was.

First, she wanted him to leave her alone but now she felt a little annoyed with him accepting without creating a ruckus.

However, when she glanced at the time, Nadia rolled her eyes and sashayed into the room. She came back a minute later with a new copy and then passed them to him.

Swiftly, Damien signed the two and then held one in his hands.

“I hope that you are happy, Nadia.” This time, he didn’t have the qualifications to call her his wife anymore.

As he left the house, his back finally slumped against the wall, his entire body trembling.

If they asked who it was that he had known the longest in his life, then it was Nadia.

His adoptive parents had died when he was in highschool and his sister, Julia had also been missing for more than eight years now.

He and Nadia went through their six years of junior and high school and then went to college together.

In total, he had known her for more than thirteen years.

Four years as his best friend, six years as his girlfriend, and three years as his wife.

They had gone through the journey together. They were meant to be soulmates.

As he heard the faint sound of footsteps, Damien jumped up in a hurry and walked out of the hallway. Just as he turned around the corner, he saw a man striding in.

His suit was a perfect fit to his body and his hair was styled carefully. As he saw Damien, he stopped for a second.

“Have you escorted Nadia in?”

Damien was a little curious but instead of saying anything, he nodded and then walked off.

Seeing the brief reply, Andrew frowned slightly and as soon as he entered the passcode to Nadia’s apartment, he started complaining.

“Nadie baby, you need to tell your team to train your men properly. Met one insolent one just now,” he said while walking into the house like he owned the place.

Nadia rushed out of the room, her evening dress was already taken off and she was left in her underwear with her hair still styled and her heels still on.

Hearing Andrew’s words, how could she not guess that he had seen Damien.

Her heart rate quickened, “did he say anything?”

“He’s just a new one that the team brought today,” she added hurriedly.

Satisfied, Andrew nodded and closed the gap between them.

“That’s what I thought too. But tonight I was in a hurry to come and take a look at my movie Queen.”

“Tomorrow, I will teach the bastard a lesson.”

As he said this, he pulled Nadia into his embrace and she missed the sinister and dangerous look that flashed in his eyes.

But even if she saw it, would she have minded?
