04: Breaking Point

As he got back to the fourth floor, the security that had denied Damien entrance the previous time seemed to have been waiting at the grand door for him.

“If you had taken some more time, we would have come to make sure that you weren’t crawling around the place,” the man said with ridicule.

Damien’s brows furrowed slightly as he planned to ignore him. However, the man suddenly walked to stand in front of him, his eyes gleaming with a weird type of excitement.

“In the future, you won’t be allowed here as Miss Nadia now belongs to different caliber of men.”

Damien took the empty space left behind by the man and walked off, however, the last part of his words were replaying in his mind.

Was it a mistake that he said men instead of using man?

As though his trip here had been made public in a type of way, the van that had dropped Nadia off suddenly opened and two women jumped out of the van.

“Hey, you!” One of them barked, her hands folded across her chest as she stared down at Damien.

Seeing that it was Nancy, Nadia’s manager, Damien was ready to ignore. The both of them had never shared a good relationship and most times, he had even advised Nadia to change managers.

However, Nadia had assured him that Nancy could get the work done.

“Originally, we were meant to have sent your trash over to you but since you are here, it’s best you come and carry them.”

At her words, Damien paused as he remembered that he had indeed left some things lying around in Nadia’s apartment to make it easy for him anytime that he came around.

However, with everything that had happened, it hadn’t even crossed his mind.

To think that it had been packed ahead?

His expression was filled with a bit of self mockery as his lips curved into a grimace.

Without minding the scornful expression on her manager’s face, Damien closed the gap to the van in three large strides.

However, as he reached inside, two arms stretched forward and grabbed him while the two women hurriedly assisted and had him pushed inside.

“Knock him out, I’m sure there’s no one looking for trash like him,” the younger girl said with a scoff.

“Hmm, at least, Nadia was smart to get rid of him,” the manager replied before entering the van and shutting the door.

For Damien, although he could hear them, his consciousness was gradually fading away from the hard hit one of the men gave him and finally, everything turned dark.

By the time he opened his eyes again, he found that he had been tied up in what seemed like an abandoned warehouse.

“You sure took your time in waking up,” Nancy said as she sashayed towards him and sat down on the seat across from him.

Usually, Damien was a person that lived life calmly and without many social activity. In a way, his life was a perfect circle. Besides from Nadia and his research, the only things he could spare time for was only what was necessary for survival.

Right now, he couldn’t guess what they wanted and so he was unable to help the small feeling of fear that creeped into his mind.

“What do you want?” He finally managed to ask while staring at Nancy.

Without replying, Nancy threw her head back and crackled in laughter.

“To think that you have the ability to show expressions,” she said with a sneer hanging on her lips.

“I know that you and Nadia have ended things but I’m not naive like that and won’t allow your act to fool me.”

“Since she has now become the movie queen, Nadia is no longer on the same level as you…” Nancy stopped as though remembering something.

“Actually, she has never been on the same level as you. She just didn’t want to let you go.”

After that, she snapped her fingers while turning back and the girl from earlier walked out in the dark.

“Since you both have ended things, you have to sign this document. From now on, there is no past between the both of you and you have no right to use her name for any sort of benefit.”

“Once you sign, you will get a copy. As for the money that you are being offered as compensation, you can take it as the money that will be used to buy your freedom once you sign.”

In the dark, he watched her figure that was staring at him with disdain and then nodded.

“Untie one of my hands so I can sign.”

Pleased with his reply, Nancy smiled in satisfaction and then signaled at the men behind Damien.

Before then, he hadn’t even realized that there were some men standing there. One held his left hands while the other untied his right hands.

With his hands untied, Damien looked at the two pages briefly, however, he still couldn’t help the disappointment he felt when he realized that it was the same document that Nadia had talked about before.

Despite that, he took a deep breath and then signed the paper elegantly.

Once he was done, the other man untied his left arm and the both of them stepped back.

“We are done here, I’m sure he will find away to untie himself and his way home,” Nancy said and then without another look at him, she grabbed the signed document and left.

Damien watched their departing backs and after he was sure they were gone, he untied his waist and then his legs.

Although his face still appeared calm, his usually bright blue eyes had a hint of frost in them.

Luckily, even though it was an abandoned warehouse, it was not a remote area and he was quickly able to find his way back to their research building.

“Ah, you are back, I thought you would spend the night there,” Cedric started as he held the door open.

“Hmm.”

Without bothering to explain anything, Damien went straight to his computer.

He had been too closed off in the past but after what just happened, he realised that perhaps, he had been in a bubble in the past few years.
