Due to this, he went off the rails. Lucian snuck out of the restaurant after he had finished his meal and left a generous tip. As he made his way into the growing darkness outside, he pulled the hood of his coat up over his head to conceal his identity as he went. Afterwards, he started milling around the areas that still had people in them, just listening to the conversations that were going on there, and eventually he found himself in every single one of those areas. They were discussing topics such as their households, places of employment, and the neighbors and friends that they had in the neighborhood. In spite of the fact that there was some complaining, the majority of it focused on what another person had done in general.

Lucian made the observation that there were several security guards patrolling the area in pairs, and while their primary responsibility was to protect the general public, it did not appear that any of them were abusing the authority that was granted to them
