Chapter. 1 Sean the Loser Man

“You lousy guy! What exactly can you do in this world, huh? You can’t even do this!” The restaurant owner’s anger grew when Sean Hodgson accidentally spilled an order that was about to be delivered to a customer. Sean could only bow his head deeply with great guilt.

“Sorry, sir!”

“What? Sorry? Does that sentence bring back my food? Do you think that will bring back the good name of this restaurant? Your only mistake now is working here. The restaurant manager shouldn’t accept a loser like you!”

“I.... I’ll replace the food with my salary, sir.”

“Salary? Which salary do you mean? You’ve made too many mistakes here. So all the compensation has used up your entire salary. Now I don’t care. Get the hell out of here. Because I fired you!”

Sean reflexively knelt down to beg for forgiveness. This was the longest he had ever worked. Although he had only been working at this restaurant for three months. However, in other places, he could only last a month or only two weeks and even once only a day. Everyone knew Sean was a loser. He was orphaned, poor, stupid, and weak. That’s why he always failed to get a job.

“Please, sir! Don’t fire me! I don’t know where else to look for a job.” 

“I don’t care. I just want you out of here now!” the man shouted.

Sean stood up. He had no place here anymore. Looking down in shame. Sean walked past the dozens of other employees who were jeering at him.

“Once a loser, forever a loser,” said one of them.

“Never mind, Sean. A loser like you doesn’t deserve to live. You’re better off dead. The maggots are still more useful than you. Hahaha,” said another and the others laughed in return.

Sean staggered to the bus stop. After waiting there for a long time. Finally, the bus came. When everyone flocked in. Their crowd made Sean pushed back until he couldn’t find a place on the bus anymore. The bus finally lef,t leaving Sean who could only stare alone. Not long after, a taxi stopped right in front of Sean.

“Running out of space on the bus? Come on, come with me! I’ll give you a special price,” offered the taxi driver.

“Really? Can you drive me home with my remaining money?” Sean said quickly. Hoping this would be one of the lucky breaks in his life. The taxi driver didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he seemed to think for a while, looking at Sean suspiciously.

“How much can you give me?” 

Sean quickly reached into every pocket of his shirt and pants. He was excited when he found some coins in one of his pants pockets.

“Here. This is all the money I have right now.”

“Ish. You’re really poor. Never mind. You’d better walk. Use the money to buy drinks on the way. You’ll definitely need it. You poor bastard!” the man said and walked away. 

Sean felt humiliated. Actually, it wasn’t the first time in his life that he had gotten bad luck after bad luck throughout the day. Even so when he heard such an insulting sentence. He still felt very annoyed. Sean clenched his hand into a fist and squeezed the coins in his hand. He wanted so badly to get back at all of them. However, he didn’t have enough courage to do so. Sean looked at the coin angrily. He wanted to throw the coins away, but then he realized it was the only money he had. Sean finally chose to put it back in his pocket. 

Inevitably Sean was walking. Covering a distance that is actually quite far from getting to his house. On the way, a luxury sports car suddenly stopped beside Sean. Out of curiosity, Sean slowed down his pace.

“Hi, Sean!” a woman said from inside the car.

“Sarah,” Sean muttered, looking at the beautiful girl he had always loved. However, Sarah was not a good girl who would accept Sean as he was. She preferred another man who was much better in every way like Johan. The man who sat next to her while driving. 

“What are you doing here, buddy?” asked Johan in a condescending tone. “Why are you walking? Do you need a ride?” 

“No, honey! People like him don’t deserve to sit in your expensive car. He might get too comfortable and not want to leave,” said Sarah.

“You’re right, honey. I don’t want dirt on his body splattered all over my expensive car, either. I’ll have to spend a lot of money to replace the seats and doors that have been contaminated with his dirty skin. Hahaha.” The two laughed out loud together.

“I’m so lucky to have a man like you, Johan. Not only do you love me with all your heart, but you also have a lot of money to make me happy.”

“Oh, of course, darling. Because you won’t be full if you only eat love? Let alone eat well and be able to buy expensive things. Even eating on the side of the road has to be in debt. Loser. Hahaha.”

Sean clenched his fists again. However, he still didn’t have the courage to reply to the two of them.

“That’s it. Don’t waste time with a loser like him. We still have a lot of other more important things to do. Like shopping or having a delightful meal at an expensive restaurant.”

“You’re right, Johan. Come on, we shouldn’t waste so much time with this loser!” 

Johan started the engine of his car. Then, before leaving, he puffed out a thick cloud of smoke at Sean. This made the poor man cough for a while. Sean cover his nose with his hand to get rid of the smoke. After the view returned to light. He continued his journey home. 

In a shabby rented house, Sean lived alone. He has no relatives or neighbors who care about him. So when he felt hungry without any food, he couldn't eat like this. Sean can only drink tap water to survive. Unfortunately, he hasn’t paid his water bill for the past few months. So, this time, the tap didn’t flow at all. 

Sean really felt desperate. His body felt weak and hungry. Even crying couldn’t seem to help solve his problem. Sean wanted to give up on his unlucky life. However, he remembered his promise to his mother to survive, even though his life was very difficult. Until finally he came up with a brilliant idea. Sean took out his cell phone to call 911 and ask for help. Once again, bad luck came his way. His cell phone died because of lack of power. This time Sean really couldn’t hold back the anger at the injustice in his life. He also slammed the cellphone on the floor quite hard. Surprisingly, the cell phone did not shatter into pieces as it should have. The screen of the flat object actually lit up brightly. Sean couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Out of curiosity, he grabbed the thing to check it out.

“Tired of being weak? Want to try to find the meaning of true strength?” Sean muttered, reading the writing in the center of his cell phone screen. 

Underneath the sentence were two options that Sean could choose from. “Yes” or “No”. With trembling hands and high curiosity. Finally, Sean chose the Yes option. Suddenly, a bright light came out of his cell phone. Then quickly the light pulled Sean’s body inside.
