Chapter. 4 Human Life in Sean’s Weak Hands

“Hurry up! Hurry up! Hurry in!” said a man wearing a health worker’s uniform. Beside him, an ambulance was evacuating the survivors.

“Calm down, I’ll help get you out of there,” Claudia said as she tried to lift the billboard that had fallen on a little girl’s leg.

“Claudia! Quickly bring her here!” the man shouted at Claudia who had not managed to evacuate the poor little girl. However, suddenly the monsters seemed to start arriving, causing the man to panic.

“Claudia! That’s it! Leave her alone! We have to go!” he shouted. Claudia was confused. She hadn’t managed to get the girl out of there yet. However, she didn’t want to fall victim to the monster either.

“Help! Help me!” the little girl pleaded. While holding Claudia’s leg who was about to leave. Of course Claudia’s day immediately felt pity. She abandoned her intention to leave and went back to trying to get the girl out. 

“Shit! This girl is so stubborn,” the man grumbled.

“What do we do then, sir?” asked another health worker. 

“Just leave them. Let’s go!” said the man. Then he quickly locked the ambulance door. Then entered through the front door to drive the car.

Claudia finally managed to get the little girl out.

“Are you okay?” she asked.

“I can’t move my legs,” the little girl replied.

“All right. I’ll carry you.” Claudia lifted the little girl’s body. However, just as she was about to turn around. Suddenly, a Megant Monster was behind her. The monster roared angrily. So, the force jerked Claudia backwards along with the little girl. They were even more frightened when its enormous claws were about to catch their bodies.

Suddenly, there was a loud gunshot. When Claudia opened her eyes. It turned out that the Megant Monster had fallen because of a bullet that pierced its head.

“Are you okay?” Sean asked Claudia. The girl nodded. Then she grabbed Sean’s hand, which helped her get up. Not long after, there was a loud bang accompanied by a groan from the ambulance. 

“Mr. John!” Claudia half shouted. Witnessing the ambulance had been rolled over by horrible ant monsters.

“We can’t stay here. Let’s go!” said Sean. While walking away, Sean continued to shoot at the monsters that were trying to get closer. 

Sean and Claudia tried to run as fast as possible to find a safe place. Until finally they got into a boxcar that was left by its owner. Sean, who was in front of the door, immediately held the door with his rifle. So that it could not be opened from the outside.

“Will it be safe here?” asked the little girl with a scared face.

“I don’t know. But I hope so,” Claudia replied in a desperate tone. For a moment, everyone was silent. Claudia and the little girl hugged each other tightly. Because the ants could be heard crawling on the box. Meanwhile, Sean continued to hold the car door close.

Sean turned to his side. Claudia looked very scared, but she held back her cries so that the little girl on her lap wouldn’t be even more frightened.

“Don’t be afraid. We’ll get through this. I promise to protect you,” Sean said, trying to calm her down. The girl turned her head. Her eyes looked very red. She smiled and nodded in agreement.

After a while later. Things sounded quieter. Sean slowly opened the box door and peeked outside.

“They’re gone. We can go out now!” Sean said. Claudia again nodded firmly. However, when Sean was about to leave. Suddenly, his left leg felt very weak. He almost fell down. Fortunately, Claudia immediately held him back.

“Are you okay?” asked Claudia anxiously.

“I’m fine. Thank you,” Sean replied while widening his smile. Claudia nodded and released her grip from Sean’s arm.

Sean went downstairs first. To make sure it was safe outside. Then he asked Claudia to get out of the box while carrying the little girl. With a shaky walk, Sean still tried to protect them.

Vigilantly, they began to hide from place to place. The place was in complete chaos. All the buildings were damaged, car windows were shattered, and things were scattered everywhere. Even more terrifying was the sound of screaming from all over the city. 

“We need to find a safe place immediately,” Sean said.

“But everywhere in the city has been destroyed.”

Sean thought hard. Then he remembered the paper the professor had given him earlier. He took it out of his pocket again. Then behind the anatomy of the Megant Monster Queen’s body. There was a hiding place in a city park.

“I know where the safe place is. Let’s go!” 

Sean and Claudia immediately left the place. However, Sean’s left leg was getting harder and harder to move. So their movements were very slow and often stopped to rest.

“Are you still strong?” Claudia asked Sean, who was panting. Sean nodded.

“Yes. Sorry. I rarely exercise. Besides, my left leg was clawed by that monster earlier.”

“Next time, make more time to exercise. I see your energy is really poor. Even I, a woman, can run faster than you,” Claudia taunted. She occasionally poked her head behind the car where they were sheltering. To make sure there were no Megant Monsters approaching.

“Huh! You never know how my life goes. I have to work all the time. It takes up so much of my time that I don’t even have time to exercise.” Sean explained under his breath. Claudia laughed dismissively.

“So, what do you have now? A fortune?” asked Claudia, which made Sean unable to answer. Because no matter how much he tried in the past. He couldn’t raise his standard of living for the better. “Exercise is not only to maintain health but also body strength. So that you are not weak and easily intimidated by others.” Silence. Sean began to justify Claudia’s words. Claudia felt bad for mocking Sean. Then, she left while still carrying the body of the little girl who had fallen asleep. “How unfortunate the fate of humans is now. When terrible monster’s attack. Only weak humans like you can fight back. Come on, get up. We don’t have time to relax.”

Sean exhaled his heavy breath.

“Can’t you give me a little more time?” Sean retorted as he got up from his seat.

“Don’t be lazy! Look, the bugs are back!” Sean chuckled in annoyance. 

“Alright. Come forward! I’ll shoot them out one by one.”

The monsters fell down in the few times Sean pulled the trigger of his rifle. He then turned his body towards Claudia with a haughty face.

“Look, I’m a powerful man now,” Sean said proudly.

“Are you sure? Look behind you,” Claudia replied. Sean turned around to be surprised to see more monsters coming.

“Oh, my God! Just looking at them gives me goose bumps.”

“Then what are you waiting for. Come on, run!” Claudia immediately took a thousand steps to leave the place. Unfortunately, Sean who had not yet regained his full energy. Couldn’t keep up with Claudia, who was already far ahead. “Don’t be silly and shoot the monsters!” she shouted. Sean obeyed. While continuing to run. He aimed his rifle bullets at the monsters. 

Then, Claudia saw some people hiding in a building. Because her energy was also running low. Meanwhile, the little girl in her arms was also not moving anymore. She finally chose to go to that building. Of course, she did not forget to pull Sean to come with her.

“Let us in! Let us in please! I have to save a child’s life,” Claudia pleaded with the people inside the building. At first, they were hesitant to help Claudia. However, when they saw Sean could kill them with his rifle. Finally, they let Sean and Claudia in. 

“Thank you,” Claudia said.

“Who are you? Why does your rifle work while ours doesn’t?” asked the men, who turned out to be members of the local army.

“This is not just any gun,” Sean replied proudly.

“Really?” the men were immediately interested. 

“Is that weapon more important than the life of this little boy?” asked Claudia in annoyance. The people immediately came to their senses. Then they immediately helped Claudia to provide help by finding the medicines needed by Claudia from the supplies in their group.

For a while, the little girl’s body was treated with simple tools. Finally, the little girl regained consciousness, too. Claudia was very grateful and ended up hugging the girl tightly. However, it seemed like their fun couldn’t last long. Because the Megant Monsters came back and tried to break the glass in that place to get in and catch them. Of course, it immediately made the situation in the building tense. 

“Damn it! I haven’t rested yet. But they’re already back quickly,” Sean grumbled.
