Mia was still thinking about the Lille Group when a sudden knock sounded on the door.

The door opened, and her secretary walked inside. There was a deep frown on her face. That was the second time in that day that she would be seeing such an expression.

She looked worried and frightened. The first time was because the Lille Group cancelled their cooperation. But then, what could be the case now?

“We have a huge problem,“ she announced.

“What happened?”

“We were supposed to deliver some goods to the Frederick Group.”

Mia nodded once. “I signed it last week if I'm not mistaken.”

"Yes, but unfortunately, when we got there and started offloading, Mr. Frederick said he wasn't interested in the goods again, and he wants us to return them.”

What!

“That doesn't make any sense. I mean, he paid for it already. Why would he want us to return it?”

“Well, that's what I thought as well, but he forced the men to stop offloading. Our men had to put the goods back to our truck, and as we speak, they ar

Chapter “What?” Ellen asked.Mia was dumbfounded for another moment. Something was really happening. There was no doubt about it again.“Why aren't you talking?” Ellen asked anxiously. Mia released another sigh. “The Swiss company doesn't want to continue our cooperation.“Ellen couldn't believe it. “But they agreed to pay soon so we can deliver the goods. What happened?”Mia couldn't comprehend it herself. Something was definitely amiss. She looked at Ellen again. “When did the Lille Group decide to terminate the contract?”“Few hours ago.”Mia thought about it for another moment. If the other business partners were terminating after the Lille Group dud, then there could be a connection. “Try and find out if these companies have any connections.”Ellen nodded once and walked out of the office. Her phone rang almost immediately. She took it and stared down at the screen. It was one of their business partners. Mia hesitated, unsure whether to pick it up or not.It stopped ringing a

In the next few minutes, the Perry family was gathered in the office.“I thought Mia was the CEO. Why does this have to concern us?” Morris whined.“Then, you should let us talk about what you did with Nathan because that's why we are in this mess now!” Mia's father snapped.Morris adjusted in his seat but was unable to say a word.“Well, it wasn't like Morris was trying to cause any trouble!” Morris' father intervened. “He was only trying to help!”“We terminated our contract with the Watson's family. And in return, the Lille Group terminated their contract with us. Now, several other business partners have terminated their contract with us. Do you know what that means?” Mrs. Perry yelled, clearly annoyed at their outbursts. They all went quiet.“I'm sure you all don't even understand the consequences of all this. The Perry Group is in a dire situation. If we don't keep it wrapped now, we could go bankrupt!” she yelled.“And now, I've brought you all here so you can make up suggestio

“If he can help us, I believe we will be able to survive this crisis.” Mia finished and looked at the faces of her family members. They were staring at her with confused expressions. But she hoped they would believe her and let Kevin intercede.“Invite him to dinner tonight,” Mrs. Perry decided.“What! No way!” Morris protested immediately. “I don't know what Mia is trying to say, but to me, I don't think Kevin is someone you should give regard to.”“Well, we can always try unless you have a better idea,” Mia responded calmly.Morris chuckled. “You have to be kidding me. Inviting Kevin over for a talk is not even part of it. Kevin can't do anything. He was only trying to form for you.”Mia felt a bit annoyed at the fact that Morris was twisting her words and making everything complicated for her.“Then what will you say about the fact that Kevin met with the mayor, only for the Watson's family to lose their job in the demolition project? How?”Mrs. Perry's eyes widened with shock. “Wh

Mia released an exasperated sigh. She felt somehow instantly at the way her family members were talking. She already told them how she felt about Kevin. She didn't know why they didn't want to believe her.Even though she wasn't entirely clear about who Kevin really was, she had hints. She was just certain that Kevin could really help them if he wanted to.But then, maybe she shouldn't have invited him here. Seeing the remarks they are currently making was starting to make her feel regretful. It's only a matter of time before the company collapses, and nothing will be left of them.“So, are you going to help or not?” “Kevin is not going to help, obviously. He can't help. Kevin sighed and believed instantly that Mia’s motivation was not at all pure.Someone who had never allowed him to kiss her suddenly wanted him to sleep with her?It just wasn't even making any sense to him. “To apologise or to ask for help?” Kevin asked to be sure. There were a few minutes of silence, as if Mia was thinking about it. Then she took a step forward.“Like I said, we haven't even gotten divorced yet. So, just think of it as something we are doing as a couple that we are,” she muttered.Kevin scoffed. “Really?” He was shocked and sceptical.Mia nodded once. "Yes, or is there something else you want?”Mia was sure there would never be. Every man always dreamt of touching their wife, and Mia had refused Kevin for over a year now. There was nothing else he could want.Kevin inclined his head to one side as he pretended to be thinking about it. “Why do you think this is what I want?”Mia hesitated. “Our one-year anniversary was two weeks ago, and we have never kissed or even

Kevin was shocked at what he was looking at.Kevin regarded Mia for a moment. “Is this really what you want?” Mia shrugged briefly, “Does it matter?”Kevin scoffed. He wasn't only shocked; he was also disappointed. If Mia thought she could do this with him just because she wanted to safeguard the company, how was she so different from Hoes? And did she really think he was going to jump at the offer? “Are you not in the mood?” She said it seductively, swinging her hips towards him in a manner to entice her.Kevin scoffed. “I'm not doing this with you, Mia. And like I said earlier, your company won't go bankrupt.”My countenance changed immediately. She wasn't expecting the response that she got from Kevin.Mia was a curvy, beautiful woman. There were a lot of drinks in front of them, with some steaks.“This is like the first time we will be having dinner together after so long.”Kevin smiled. “It has been too long. We sure should have done it sooner. I'm sorry for always cancelling my appointments.”Alessia laughed. “I know there will be plenty of time to do that anyway." Besides, aren't you going home tonight?”Kevin shook his head briefly and ate some of the steak. “I'm not going home tonight. So, be rest assured, I will be spending quality time with you.”Alessia nodded once. “I honestly think you should get a place in Penia City. You won't always need to go home. An unobservant passerby would believe that he was watching the game. But Jude could tell that he wasn't. He was simply staring at the screen.“What’s going on in that head of yours, brother?"No response.Jude smirked. Of course, there wouldn't be a response. Anthony was far away from where his body was.Jude briefly wondered what could have occupied his brother's mind so much that even the game couldn't take his mind off it.Could it be about work? Or perhaps it was a woman. Though, the latter was highly unlikely as Anthony was not the type to get all strung up over a woman. At least, Jude didn't know him to be one. Maybe his

Silence descended, and Mia finally looked up to see their reactions. They all just stared at her, seeming to process her words.Suddenly, hisses filled the air while some scoffed as everyone turned away from her.“Kevin! Are you kidding me?" Someone said to another.“Perhaps he'd steal it. He might be very good at infiltrating highly guarded offices.”"Trust me, he's not only a pauper but a dumb one. He'd get caught in one sweep," Morris said, “the worst part is that he'll mention our family's name out of fear.”“This meeting is not a joke, Mia," the grandmother, who had just stared at Mia since she made her suggestion, eventually spoke, disapproval all over her features. But that didn't stop Mia. She knew she should. Kevin could be lying for all she knew, but… he wasn't. She didn't know what made her believe or why, but she knew he wasn't lying. It wouldn't kill to give him the benefit of the doubt.“How can you even bring your ex-husband into this, Mia?" Sue's mother frowned. “That

“What are these excuses that you all are giving me?” Grandmother snarled as she dealt everyone with stern gazes. “I need your progress! What is this?"Morris finally spoke up, he had meant to keep quiet. Not getting the invite was enough embarrassment, but there was one thing that grandmother hated more than failure. It was cowardice. He knew that no matter what, Grandmother would always give points to confidence and bravery."I don't know, Grandmother. Getting this invite is impossibly hard. I've asked Donald; I've asked every powerful man I know, and it's all the same story; they haven't even gotten theirs.”Grandmother shook his head. For once, for just once, she left a task to them, and none of them had any good news for her. Must she always be involved in everything?"Sue? What about you? How's your connected boyfriend getting the invite for us?" Grandmother asked her, observing her as she stared blankly at the china plates on the table. Minutes ago, it had been filled with sweet

"Good. Thank you." Then, she returned her attention to her phone. The driver's smile waned a bit, and his heart ached, just a little bit, but he quickly shoved away the feeling and put on a bright smile. “Let's get you home."The driver had been the one assigned to Sue since she was a kid. Kevin immediately dialled Lionel's number. As the call went through, he mused on what Anthony aimed to achieve by wanting to secure invites for his family. What exactly was his aim in wanting to attend the party? Connection or foul play?Perhaps he was hoping he'd see the Phoenix and have a chat with him about the Print Odd company? Obviously. One other was sure, though; he thought he could get into the party through Lionel, cause chaos, or plant it for the future. Either way, he had no idea that he'd be the one making the decision of who gets to attend and who doesn't. Of course, he doesn't know. He'd never have thought of it even in a million years. And now that he'd seen it, there was no way he'd allow his plan to work.He glanced down at his phone and realised it had ended without a response. He frowned. A few seconds later, the door was pulled open.Alessia smiled at Kevin, her gaze briefly taking him in. A loose blue t-shirt and joggers with an apron on. "Good morning, boss.” She grinned as she stepped inside, eyeing his apron."Morning, Alessia," Kevin answered, closing the door behind him. “How're you?”“I'm fine,” she dragged the words, an amused frown forming on her brows. “Are you cooking?"He nodded. “Jake and I are trying to fix ourselves a breakfast.”Alessia couldn't keep

Besides, he already explained the steps to her.She tapped her pen against her lips, eyes squinted at the question in the book.“Maybe I need a break.""Lisa!
