Kevin was slouched in the surveillance room chair, feeling like time was crawling by. The room was silent except for the low sound coming from the monitors. Each monitor showed scenes of nothing more interesting than empty hallways, quiet parking lots, and the occasional maintenance worker.

He tapped his fingers against the desk, yawning. It had been hours since he’d had a reason to move from his seat, and he was trying to fight sleep when he heard a faint knock on the door.

He straightened up, feeling curious. The door opened and Mia walked in.

Just seeing her standing there felt like a burst of light in his dull evening.

He grinned widely “Mia! Hey!”
