Rewards

Shelly and the doctor who treated Ethan discussed the cost of his treatment in his office.

"A full body scan cost three thousand dollars; the total cost of everything would be twenty thousand dollars; his wounds would take two months or heal partially, by then he would be admitted once half of the total amount is paid." The doctor said as he scribbled down a few letters on a printed white document.

Shelly was dumbfounded after hearing the cost. She is a salary earner, and she earns less than a thousand dollars a month.

Ten thousand is more than her two-year-old savings scheme.

"Are you going to pay now or later?" the doctor asked without even looking at her.

Shelly shook her head; she can't whip out such an amount now. The doctor nodded his head and passed the paper to her containing a detailed

She excused herself from the office. There was a pained look on her pretty face as she made her way toward the room where Ethan was receiving treatment.

Shelly walked inside and grabbed a chair; she brought it close to Ethan.

She sat on it and brought her hand to hold Ethan's.

"We lost everything we've been working for on the same day because of that spoilt young master of the William family, Ethan. I don't want you to feel such pain; I wish I could have advised you earlier." She sobbed slowly, squeezing the paper in her hand.

Ethan was half asleep and heard everything she said.

His eyes were open; he stared at the ceiling with a pained look on his face.

Then he stared at the floating windows once again.

"Why can't I sleep? Something in me keeps screaming out that this stuff is real." He stared at Shelly, who fell asleep holding his hand, and then he stared at the paper she squeezed in her hand.

With the rich lighting in the room, he was able to read the details on the paper; it was his hospital bill.

"I've got to check this out; I can't depend on anybody in this world to take care of me anymore."

The young man made a decision without hesitation.

"Open the reward," he called out.

The two windows that first appeared started shrinking into one.

The text disappeared, a group of red, blue, and green lights rotated on the screen, and then a new set of text and a small string of numbers appeared.

Congratulations! You have received $200,000 as a reward.

[Congratulations! You have received an elixir: Quick Healer 2]

[Congratulations! You have received a skill set in heroic martial arts.]

[The system has synced with your real-life account; would you like for it to be transferred immediately?]

At first, it all began as a false hallucination, but slowly things have been getting crazier, and he is even starting to believe that this is real.

To test it out, he answered yes.

And the next moment, he heard his phone vibrating.

"Probably a notification from my social media handle." He didn't believe that the notification was from the hallucination he was seeing in front of him.

He struggled to sit up and then stretched his hands to grab his phone; it was an old model of the iPhone 6, and it has a crack on the screen; it was damaged during the fuss at O&M.

He was shaking from anxiety as his hand tapped the power button.

The screen brightened up, and lo and behold, there was a notification on his phone.

[You received $200,000 from Black Anonymous].

Thump, Thump. His heartbeat increased as he stared at the notification on his phone.

It was exactly the same amount that he received from the system; his hand was shaking as he stared at his Cash app notification.

He unlocked his phone and scrolled down to his cash app. He hesitated for a few seconds before clicking the cash app.

Balance: $206,567.00

"Am I not dreaming?" It's real.' Ethan couldn't believe his eyes when he saw the balance in his cash app.

[Cash reward sent successfully; please, you only have thirty minutes to claim the other rewards.]

He looked at the other two rewards: one was a set of martial arts techniques, and the other was Quick Healer, an elixir.

He accepted the two of them, and a small bottle containing a golden liquid appeared in his hand.

Ethan sat on the bed and watched this unreal reality unfold in front of him.

He opened the bottle and hurriedly poured the liquid inside his mouth; it has a slightly bland but refreshing taste.

The liquid drifted into his stomach, and he started feeling warmth around that area.

He looked at the open wound in his right arm and saw a dark, gaseous substance escaping from it, which the injury was covering.

The pain in his body reduced as the time passed; exactly after ten minutes, he was whole again.

Strength returned to his body, and the sharp pain in his chest disappeared.

The wound on his face disappeared as well, and his swollen eyes disappeared and became whole like before the attack.

His limb strengthened.

Ethan couldn't wrap his head around the miracle happening to him.

[Elixir: Quick Healer (1) has been stored in the system inventory.]

[Skill: heroic martial arts (unlearned)]

[The reward has been received. The system will go offline now. To call the system back online, just think of or say "System."]

Ethan kept looking at the floating wonder as it disappeared from his sight.

Money in my account; rapid recovery; martial arts? All this was gained in a day from this system? Ethan looked at Shelly; she was still sleeping peacefully, the lines on her face caused by the tears she shed being visible.

"I can change my destiny with this; I can become the greatest and not just a normal man in this world; I can accumulate wealth; I can have the strength to topple over those who used their monetary status against me." Ethan muttered.

He clenched his right fist and punched forward.

"With this system, I can rule this shitty world!"
