Chapter 27: Strange Man

Mira staggered backward, her legs losing all the strength they had. She no longer had the strength to fight the remaining assassins who had been sent to kill her. But then, she couldn't just go down without bringing him down so she used all her will to keep herself standing. She decided not to let herself die no matter what without killing the two men in front of her.

"You managed to kill one of us and that's impressive," one of the remaining assassins said. "But you've already reached the end of your line. You were only able to kill him due to a mistake that we can't afford to make."

Hearing this Mira chuckled weakly as she leaned on the wall, "If you're so confident about killing me then why are you still standing there talking? You should be out here killing me already and not wasting time talking nonsense."

The two assassins turned to look at each other briefly but didn't say anything. They then returned their attention to Mira whom they had been sent by the Boss to kill. She appeared weak but they couldn't afford to make any mistake. She had single handedly taken down the gang which the Boss was backing and that was something really impressive. Only someone as powerful as she was would be able to accomplish a feat like that.

"I see the reason now," Mira said with a dry chuckle. "I see the reason you two cannot attack me no matter what..."

With those words she stood up, clenching her fists, "You're both afraid of me and can't take any risks. You're afraid that one of you is going to die trying to kill me. Hehe."

Ethereal Step!

Mira immediately moved when the two assassins were distracted, her arms moved backward as she glared at them. She had been talking earlier just to distract them so that she would be able to deliver her fatal attack without the both of them being able to react to it on time.

Right from the moment she was wounded and became weak, she knew that she wouldn't be able to take down the assassins no matter what. She had only been able to kill the other assassin because she had given him a surprise attack just like the one she was doing right now. She had used the Ethereal Step technique which Ezra had taught her to move very fast, killing him before he even realized anything was wrong. And now she was going to use the same technique on the remaining two assassins!

The two assassins were still standing, their hands clenched around the hilts of their swords when they saw Mira vanish into thin air. The young woman who was supposed to be standing in front of them had suddenly vanished without trace, leaving them very shocked. It was as if she had never been there in the beginning.

"We have to be very careful!" the remaining assassin who had spoken earlier yelled. "This was the same technique she used against Brooke—"

He had not finished speaking when a longsword slashed his throat, causing blood to spill out and spray the floor before him. His companion watched in shock as he clutched his throat with his eyes wide open, trying as much as possible not to fall to the ground.

"You think because I'm weak you'll be able to take me down?" The other assassin suddenly heard Mira's voice behind him, causing him to turn immediately as he charged towards her in anger. But to his utmost shock, she vanished again as if she had never existed.

But the truth was Mira was using the last energy in her to move very fast so that her attacks would be unpredictable. This would give her a lot of chances to kill the remaining assassin without too much trouble. Their fighting skills were great so the only edge she had over him was the Ethereal Step technique that Ezra had taught her. And this was the technique she was going to use to kill the remaining assassin.

The other assassin whom she had slashed in the throat continued standing there, trying as much as possible to move but he couldn't. The sword in his hand finally dropped to the ground with a loud clang, more blood seeping out of his throat. He then fell on his knees coughing more blood as he stared at his companion with his eyes greatly widened.

"John!" the remaining assassin yelled as he ran towards his companion who had been slashed in the throat by Mira just now. But it was too late as he watched his companion collapse to the ground with a loud thud, his body becoming still. He was dead just like that without being able to put up a struggle.

"No!" the assassin yelled as he turned around, his eyes taking in the whole room so that he wouldn't fall for Mira's surprise attacks. "Show yourself if you're not a coward!"

"Why does it seem as if you're the victim now?" Mira said as she suddenly appeared above the man, her eyes zeroing in on the man who was below her.

The man heard Mira's voice and immediately swung his arm upwards, hoping to block Mira's sword. But the latter was too fast for him and changed her direction, flipping over him to land behind him. Then silently she swung her arm, slashing at his neck.

There was a swoosh sound as the sword cut through the air, slashing off his neck. The man's head was sent flying into the air and the corpse fell to the ground with a loud thud. It was only at this moment that Mira was able to get a breather.

That was close...she told herself as she fell to her knees, panting deeply as she looked around the room which was now covered in so much blood belonging to the three assassins whom she had killed.

"Very impressive," she was still thinking when she had a very deep voice, causing her to become very shocked. This was because the voice came from behind her and there was no one who had entered the room some moments ago. It was as if the man had suddenly appeared around.

She immediately turned and saw a man dressed in a black robe, a large broadsword strapped to his left side. He didn't have any expression on his face but Mira could already feel the tension in the room, causing her to almost collapse. Just from staring at the strange man, she could feel every blood in her body boil.

"Now you're going to die.”
