Chapter 28: The Last Thing Remembered

When Mira saw the man standing in the room she immediately got back to her feet and gripped her sword more tightly, her heart racing faster. This was because she could already sense that this person was way more powerful than those men who had been sent to assassinate her. She could literally feel his aura from where he was standing.

"I love your fighting spirit," the man said while continuing to grip the hilt of his broadsword which was still sheathed. It was as if he didn't see Mira as any threat for him to immediately pull out his broadsword from its sheath. He obviously saw her as a pest that could be eliminated any time he wanted.

"But this is where it ends," the man said. "You dared to maim everyone belonging to the gang under me and that's a big slap to my face. And to think that you're not an indigene of this village makes it really demeaning."

Mira, who had been looking for a chance to attack the man, suddenly moved towards him, swinging her sword at his neck. She felt that even though she was way more powerful than her, he couldn't be faster. Hence she decided to take him down using a surprise attack.

"Now this is what I really call a fighting spirit," the man said with an unperturbed voice as he thrust out his left hand toward the incoming sword, meeting it in a flash. "Women like you deserve a top place in society. But alas, it can't be possible because this world is so screwed up."

The moment his hand met Mira's sword she felt a gust of energy surge through it, assaulting her entire arm. The impact instantly sent her flying into the air as the sword shattered into bits which flew across the whole room, embedding themselves into the ground and floor. With a loud thud, she hit the wall and crashed to the ground, blood gushing out of her mouth.

"If you hadn't offended me then I would have considered taking you in," the man said. "I would have trained you to become a very powerful woman, one the world has never seen before. I would have made you more powerful than this, able to subdue the entire world..."

When he said this the man looked at Mira who was lying down with a complicated emotion before saying, "But it is not possible. I have to kill you as a warning to the others who might want to keep on with the heroic acts."

As he said this he walked towards Mira who was trying to get up despite the pain she was feeling all over her body. She had already lost all her strength and was close to becoming unconscious. It was just her strong will that was keeping her alive, if not she would have already passed out from crashing into the wall.

"By now your husband should be dead," the man said. "He's weaker than you so he shouldn't be able to fare against the two assassins I sent after him."

Ezra...Mira muttered inwardly when she heard this. Is he still alive or dead like this man just said? Everything...everything is just my fault...We should have stuck together instead of going our separate ways...

"Any last words before I kill you?" the man asked. "Your death is going to be very tortuous so you'll have to be greatly prepared for it."

When Mira heard this, she sat up and leaned against the wall behind her. And when the man didn't expect it she let out a dry laugh despite the pain she was feeling. She then looked at the man before saying, "If you think I'm going to beg you to spare my life then you're very wrong. I'll never do something like that."

"Those are your last words?" the man asked, unperturbed by what Mira had just said. "If yes, then you can just close your eyes and accept your fate."

"One more thing..." Mira said while gnashing her teeth. Although the man said that he had sent men to kill Ezra, she doubted that those men would be able to take him down. From the looks of things, this man was way more powerful than those assassins. Those assassins were only tier one while Ezra was a tier two Cultivator. Except the man had another very powerful tier two assassin then there was no way they would be able to take down Ezra.

By now Ezra should have already killed those assassins and is coming for me...Mira thought within herself, feeling hopeful all of a sudden. This was because if Ezra had already found a way to kill those assassins then he wouldn't abandon her no matter what. He had already shown this on several occasions so she trusted him deeply with her life. He was going to come and she believed that fact very strongly.

"What?" the man asked.

"Write me your will so that when you die I'll take over your properties," Mira said with a painful smile.

"Then die," the man maintained his unperturbed expression and raised his right hand before thrusting it out calmly as if there was no one in the world to go against him.

Suddenly there was a loud explosion as puffs of dust filled up the area where Mira had been sitting. For some moments the puffs of dust remained there until they started to clear, causing the man to frown slightly.

When the puffs of dust cleared Ezra was revealed holding Mira in his arms. His expression was extremely grim as he looked at Mira who was already becoming unconscious.

"You finally came..." Mira muttered to herself as she slowly closed her eyes, passing out finally. Her condition was already critical and it was only a matter of time before she died.

After Mira passed out Ezra looked up at the man who had attacked her, his lips parting to say, "My face will be the last thing you remember."

When the man heard this he frowned deeply, surprised that Ezra was still alive. He had thought that the man was weaker than the young woman but he had been proven wrong. The man was at least a tier-two martial artist, someone who couldn't be joked with. But he wasn't panicking because he felt he was clearly more powerful than Ezra.

"Then let's make that a reality," the man said with a smile as he pulled out the broadsword from his side, holding it in its sheath. Even though the other party was a tier two like him, he was very confident that he would be able to destroy him. After all, he had already killed several tier-two martial artists like him!
