Chapter 7

All the members of the Miguel family went from silent to excitement, mostly the granddaughters who were still unmarried.

They were overwhelmed just by imagining how wealthy this mysterious guy from the Anderson family would be and everyone of them wished to get married to such a wealthy and powerful man.

"Grandmother," Kayla, the youngest granddaughter in the Miguel family said, stepping forward.

"I think I'm the woman the man seeks to be betrothed to." All were stunned by what she said and the other single granddaughters pulled a frown.

"Shut up, Kayla. You're talking nonsense. The man certainly doesn't know a twerp like you exists," Gigi, another daughter-in-law scoffed.

"I know him. He has intentionally sent all these gifts to grandmother to seek my hand in marriage in a grand and stupendous manner."

"Oh, save us the perry lie, Gigi," Averly, the last of the single granddaughters of the Miguel, cried. "You too don't know him. I've met him and…he's my…my boyfriend," Averly stuttered as ma'am Miguel stared at her with a grimace.

"Liar, liar!" Kayla exclaimed, pointing at Averly. "You could never have such a boyfriend. You're bluntly lying to us."

"He's actually my fiance," Gigi said, smiling. "I can prove it. We've been dating for months now and…"

"Quite!" Ma'am Miguel said and everyone went mute.

Kayla, Gigi and Averly glared at each other in silence. Inside their mind they solely wish the mysterious man was planning to have one of them as his wife for anyone who married him will be the most valued and respected granddaughter in the Miguel family and can always hold up their head high for the rest of her life. Others would have to look up to them.

Averly walked up to her grandmother and defended herself.

"Grandmother, he's seeking to have me as his wife because we all know I'm the prettiest." The other two were furious but they all knew she’s telling the truth.

Laura sighed, watching her cousin sisters arguing about who it was that the man wanted to be his future wife.

After a few back and forth arguments, Mark shifted his gaze to Laura in the corner and noticed the miserable expression she had on her face and his lips curled into a spiteful smile.

"At least," Mark said with a high pitched voice, drawing everyone's attention to him.

"All girls have a chance except for my poor baby sister who is already married to a witless loser." Hearing this, all the girls snickered and concurred with Mark.

"Actually, thanks so much, Laura, for willingly stepping down long ago and sparing us this great opportunity," Gigi said but Laura didn't retort.

Feran knew within him that the gifts were sent from his family. Afterall his wife didn’t receive any gifts or money when they got married. So they were some kind of nice gesture to please him.

The money was indirectly sent as a gift for marrying his wife, Laura, Feran thought but decided to say nothing because even if he did, no one was certain to believe him.

Larua’s mother, Mitchel came over. Feran stared at his mother-in-law as his eyes caught her. He bowed as a sign of greeting but instead of smiling and waving at him, she tilted her head and hissed.

"I heard from Tasha that he presented a worthless necklace. This is  a new low, even for your kind," Mitchel scoffed and inhaled.

Laura kept quiet. She was not ready to get into a talk that was going to result in something else and push her to the edge.

After the party was over, Mitchell took Laura and left, not looking back or thinking twice to talk to her mother-in-law or sister-in-laws for a while.

They got into the car at the parking lot of the Miguel's and Mitchel ordered the driver to drive out without waiting for Feran because she felt greatly humiliated by him that night.

Mitchel had always resented Feran and now she was burning with rage for him.

"How I wish your dad was at the party tonight to have his share of embarrassment of his son-in-law," Mitchel stated as the driver drove out of Miguel's castle.

"I will forever blame him for agreeing to marry his daughter to such a lowlife," she sneered.

"Mom, please. I've got a headache and I'm worn out by every unfortunate thing that I faced today," Laura said.

"Laura, you've been suffering humiliations all these years but now you need to have your breakthrough."

"What do you mean, mother?" Laura asked, dazed.

Mitchel sighed and finally spoke out what's been in her mind all the time.

"Laura, divorce Feran and remarry. Hopefully this time…to the person who sent those shocking gifts."
