CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

We all just sat in the living room trying to overcome what just Pit caused. But there was not much of the dust now, only the remains were there. Roland has cleaned most of it. One reason I think he was good for the job.

My parents chose him for this purpose.

A while after Pit left, Nathen came running inside shouting like a crazy person that there was an intruder in the house. Then he stopped and just looked at me apologetically.

I don’t even remember what I said to the man because I was so angry at the moment – trying to rethink about what Pit said before he left. The only thing I remember telling Nathen was to leave my house and stay watchful the next time.

Carl sat at the dining table as he enjoyed his food. But he looked sad and disappointed. At himself that there was nothing he could do or say that will make me smile. He tried cracking jokes, but nothing worked. Was I that hurt with what happened between me and Maria that I was unable to stop thinking about what Pit called me?
