FROM A BILITTLED SON-IN-LAW TO A MULTI-BILLIONAIRE

CHAPTER 10

Bryan woke up from a restless sleep the next morning. He had overslept and the day was already half gone. It was a Saturday morning and there was no work for him at the office today, besides he had called In sick.

He left the room to the living room to resume his usual house chores, along the hallway, he passed Anita's room and noticed it was slightly open. He couldn't help but pause and peep inside, wondering if she was awake. He knew he would have to face her eventually so he braced himself up.

As he stepped into her room, he noticed that the decorations he had made the previous day were still intact, even the flower petals, the gift, the candles and the wines he had kept for her were untouched. He observed that the bed he had arranged and sprinkled with flowers were still neat and well-arranged.

Could it be that Anita didn't sleep here last night? Bryan thought as he went round the room. Even the beautiful designer clothes he had gotten her were still not open. 

Maybe she had gone out of the house with the anger of what happened yesterday.

Bryan cursed himself for saying those hurtful words he had said to her about getting a divorce.

But she humiliated you and disrespected you, and even betrayed you His mind recollected but he pushed the thoughts away knowing it would only cause more problems.

The rest of the day was work for Bryan, he worked tirelessly and even became weak at the thought that Anita could be hurting by his words, He knew he overstepped his boundaries and was surely going to ask for her forgiveness.

Later that afternoon around 1 pm. Bryan noticed a car honk and when he peeped through the window, he noticed it was Anita's. He comported himself and decided to go meet her in the living room.

Immediately Anita Came in and saw Bryan her face changed to a disdainful and disgusting one, she looked at Bryan with so much disdain like he was a piece of dirt.

Bryan tried talking to her but she warned him and walked out of him.

She went to her room, refreshed and came down with a small bag to meet Bryan still sitting in the living room.

Immediately Bryan saw her, he blocked her way and knelt to beg her.

"Please just hear me out, am sorry about yesterday Anita, I didn't mean to say those hurtful words to you I was only hurt and I wasn't in a good state of mind, please forget about what I said about our divorce and let's move on please". Bryan said to Anita who pushed him to the floor and went to sit down.

She didn't want to listen to what Bryan had to say instead she brought out her phone and began pressing it.

"Please I know you're still angry with me but let's just forget about everything that happened yesterday."

Anita raised her face and gave Bryan a very treacherous and mocking laugh, she laughed and laughed at a confused Bryan who looked at her with so much confusion.

"You don't want the divorce anymore?" She asked a note of incredulity in her voice. When  Bryan nodded she let out another burst of laughter.

"How shameless, just look at you, A grown man, grovelling at my feet like a child. She demonstrated with her hands as she looked at Bryan from head to toe You're pathetic"

"Yesterday, you were adamant on getting a divorce and now you don't want it again? instead, ur begging me to stay? How silly" She gave out a mocking laugh as she weighed him from head to toe.

"Yes, I said it out of anger and I know it hurts you a lot and am sorry about it". Bryan said and she continued laughing 

"Hurts me a lot? How foolish of you. She mocked. Do you think what you said yesterday hurt me? You're utterly ridiculous if You think you can hurt me?"

"You wanted to divorce me and of course, I also thought about it and went ahead with it ". she said pulling a stack of papers with an envelope out of her bag.

"I won't let a pauper like you divorce me OK? Instead, it should be the other way round. I am the one who should be divorcing you." She said and with that, she pulled the papers out of the envelope and slapped them against his face with all the force In her.

Bryan looked up at his wife as he held the papers that fell off her face. He was completely dumbfounded as he looked at the papers that were still clutched in his hands.

"These are the divorce papers you wanted, Anita said her tone cold and bitter. "Sign them quickly and get out of my life. You are useless to me and my family and I can't afford to waste any more money on you. You're a burden and am done with you. She spat out without emotions.

Bryan looked at Anita with surprise, he didn't expect she would go this far.

"Please Anita it hasn't gotten to this, we just had some arguments yesterday and am sorry about everything, let's just make our marriage work at least one last time". Bryan pleaded but it all fell on deaf ears.

"Bryan don't make me angry, sign these papers and let me get out of here". Anita shouted at Bryan who was still on his knees. 

"Yes sign the papers quickly" His mother-in-law instructed her face a mask of anger and disgust. They looked up to see that she had already come down to the sitting room without their knowledge.

"Please Anita, where do you expect me to go to?" Bryan asked with pitiful eyes.

"I don't care where you go, you would have thought of that when u thought of divorcing me, just sign the divorce papers that's the main thing."

Bryan looked at the people he called his wife and his mother-in-law as they persuaded him. He knew he had no choice but to sign it since they had already made up their mind.

He couldn't understand the emotions he felt as he signed the divorce papers.

Immediately after he signed it his mother-in-law instructed him to leave their house and as Anita supported her, he had no option but to leave immediately.

Bryan walked off his streets with his bags without a thought of where he was going, he just walked down like someone without a destination in the scorching sun. As he became tired of working to nowhere he remembered his boss's place. 

At least he could go there and explain things to her and beg her to let him stay for some time before he could find a place of his own. 

He reversed back and walked down the street until he reached his boss's place. He knocked on her gate and told the security that he needed to see her.

The door opened and Bryan looked up to see his boss's face. She looked at him with wide eyes. her eyebrows raised in surprise.

"What are you doing here with bags Bryan? hope everything is fine" his boss asked. her eyes flicking from him to the bags and back again. 

"Yes, ma'am, everything is fine. it's just that I don't have a place to stay for now" Bryan replied his head on the floor.

"What about my friend's place?" she asked referring to his wife Anita.

"I…I can't go back there, we had a bit of disagreement and it ended in a divorce". 

"Divorce"? She repeated, her voice filled with shock and disbelief. Bryan's Boss asked with awe and shock.

"Yes." Bryan nodded. I didn't have anywhere to go to, it's only your place that came to my mind. Can I pls stay at ur place for some time, I will figure out how to leave here sooner.

"It's not a problem for you to stay here Bryan, but it will surely bring a bad impression because your wife is much friend. She may think about it the wrong way."

"Please ma'am, I promise I will be out of here in a week, I just need a place to stay for a little while until I can figure out my next steps. I will be invisible, I promise." Bryan said with assurance and hoped she would grant his request.

After much deliberation, Bryan's Boss finally agreed and allowed him to stay at her place. He was incredibly grateful and promised to be a perfect house guest.

Since Bryan was his boss's personal assistant, he was able to work from her place. 

Bryan and his boss's relationship had been going well, he knew that Anita still owned his salary and he planned on explaining it to his boss to undo it.

Everything was going smoothly at work until, out of nowhere, Anita burst into Bryan's boss's office without knocking looking all furious.

Bryan rushed into the office as he saw the speed at which she got in. He saw his boss looking shocked, and Anita glaring at her with pure rage. 

Bryan's Boss looked at her friend with so much surprise at how she was fuming. She didn't understand what was going on and why Anita would burst into her office that way.

"So I got divorced and you decided to take in my ex-husband in without my consent"? Do you have an idea how insulting that is? She spat out painfully.

"Please calm down, he didn't know where to go so I had to let him stay at my place. Am sorry if you're not happy about it". Bryan's Boss explained.

"Well so you know he can't be staying with you now, he is my ex and he is not supposed to be seen with you my friend. You will have to fire him from your job and let him out of your house immediately."

While Anita ranted, Bryan did nothing, he just stared at her all through the time

"Anita please this is unfair, you know Bryan doesn't have anywhere to stay, what will you gain if he begins to leave on the street? besides he is your ex so where he stays shouldn't bother you"

"That's your business. your just bluffing" Anita continued. "You will have to fire him immediately and chase him out of your house now Unless!"

"Unless what Anita"? Bryan's Boss demanded already becoming angry with Anita's attitude.

"Unless I will tell the world that you're a home wrecker, that you have been sleeping with my husband behind my back and you're the reason we're divorced".

"What?" Bryan and his boss exclaimed in unison.
