Two days after his release from prison and Ryan still looked like a mess. He had bruises everywhere and his once handsome face was now covered with patches of purple scars.

He was in pain.

“Why would you fight in prison, huh? They fucking beat you up and left you looking like a clown. I'm so embarrassed,” Layla hissed, as she accessed his bandaged wounds.

“Those dimwits kept picking on me. Was I to stay still and just watch?” Ryan replied in a hardened tone.

Furious, Layla pushed him away causing him to wince in pain. She glared at him. “So stupid of you to think of attacking Adrian with a fake lawyer and fake inheritance documents. Did you really think he wouldn't figure it out? I never expected such shallow move from you,"

Ryan didn't respond and his silence pissed her off . “Do you know the embarrassment you've caused me? Do you know the length I went through to get you out of jail? It cost me a lot!”

“So I'm supposed to say thank you?” Ryan scoffed. “Well, you did a great

The man repeated his words and Layla couldn't help but scoff hard. “What do you mean all the foods and drinks I ordered at my own party were sold out?! Is that a joke? And I'm to vacate this hall in ten minutes?” She ran a hand through her hair in frustration. “Are you kidding me?! Call me your fucking manager, it seems you don't know your job,"Shocked gasps flew across the room and the man sighed. “I'm sorry, ma'am, but those are direct orders,"“You must be kidding me. Direct orders from who exactly?! Who the fuck wants to humiliate me at my own party? Are you insane?”The man shook his head, refusing to answer the question. Instead he said. “Please leave the premises in ten minutes or we'll involve security,”Layla scoffed. “I'm not leaving until you tell me what the hell is going on! I paid for everything in full, so don't you dare think that you can kick me out of my own party,”“We have every right to do so. The hall is no longer yours as it has been bought by someone else. We

The hotel was thick with excitement as music blared from the speakers. The night air was cold and people flooded the hall in their best clothes. Layla stood in a corner of the room smiling widely as she looked around in admiration. Gosh, she was able to pull this off finally. Everywhere was screaming luxury.Around her, people swayed their bodies to the melody from the music. The ambiance and setting of the hall was really cool. And the decorations? Perfect. From the side of her eye, she saw Paige walk into the room and instantly, her mood changed. The bitch was dressed in a glittering gold dress that kept attracting attention. Her ass jiggled as she walked in that calm, confident manner that made the breath in Layla's throat feel tight.“That psycho, I thought she came here to sing. Why dress like the main character?!” She hissed under her breath as she stormed towards her. “Hi, birthday girl,” Paige smiled, but anyone with eyes could see the smile was fake."What the hell were you

The sharp shrill from Layla's phone made her jerk from her deep sleep and she cursed whoever was calling her at that moment. “Damn it,” She muttered as she picked up. “Gosh Ryan? I thought I left you a text yesterday not to call—”“Are you happy with him? Is that what this is?” Ryan said and Layla could hear the frustration in his voice. She rolled her eyes. There he goes again. He could never understand.“I'm only here for my treatments, nothing more,” She groaned in a tired voice.“Don't fuck with me,” He hissed. “You can get the same treatment over here. Be for real, Layla, there's something going on!”“You're overthinking this whole thing. It's not that deep,” Layla shrugged nonchalantly, even though she knew that it would be difficult to convince Ryan.“Then come home. I'll take you to the best hospitals and you'd get excellent treatments—”“It's not about the treatment, babe,” She cut him short, taking in a deep breath like the remaining words had stuck in her throat. “This is a

If Layla was excited, she didn't show it. She just nodded and allowed her eyes to wander around the big house. Her breath caught in her throat at the opulence that Adrian now enjoyed and for some reasons, sadness settled in her stomach. When she looked up, Adrian was already looking at her with those seductive eyes of his. She felt exposed, like he could see right through her. Like he knew her thoughts and what she was planning.Right then, her body remembered his touch in ways her mind refused to. Her cheeks burned as her thoughts spiraled. It was really crazy. How could she want him again? Didn't every feeling for him die the moment she betrayed him? How could she feel drawn to him again like she wanted him more, when her entire life, she had trained herself to hate him.“Don't look at me like that. It's weird,” Adrian's voice snapped at her and she swallowed in embarrassment, dragging her eyes away.“I'm just tired,” She sighed.“Well, that's doesn't sound like my business. You're

The security guard rushed in, his eyes filled with fear as he tried to catch his breath. “S…sir, I tried to stop him, but—”“Leave,” Ryan snapped and the man bowed before hurrying out of the room.“How dare you show your face here?” Ryan said harshly as he returned his attention to Adrian.“I thought to visit, you know, see how Layla is faring, especially with the ongoing catastrophe on social media,” Adrian replied with a cocky smile. At the mention of her name, Layla stiffened as she glared at Adrian. Adrian frowned. He looked first at her before his attention drifted to the paper. “What's this?”“That's diagnosis from three different hospitals. Take a look,” Layla slurred disinterestingly.Curious, Adrian picked up the paper, allowing his eyes travel through the content. A sharp feeling of dread ran down his spine and he gasped before sharply looking up at her. “How am I sure this isn't fabricated?”“You must be insane if you think I'll joke about something as sensitive as my life,”Adrian looked at her suspiciously, but her eyes remained determined. She didn't look like she was lying. If anything, she looked sad. It pricked at him so much that all he wanted to do at that moment was reach out and hug her.No matter how much he hated Layla now, she was his first love and he couldn't just sit and watch something this drastic happen to her. “I don't need your pity, Adrian,” Layla said tightly, hating the look in his eyes.“Then why are you here?”“Because I want this war or whateve
