Chapter 003: Two Consecutive Events
Terry held his breath as Meghan fought him back. His breathing became heavy. The emotions he had been holding back were ready to break loose at any moment. His face turned red, and his fists grew stronger, until his nails cut into his palms. "What?!" "I don't want to live with a poor man like you! I want a divorce!" Terry's chest felt squeezed as the horrible words came out of Meghan's mouth. The joints in his body turned to jelly, too shocked by his wife's request. "What? Why are you asking for a divorce? Wasn't it in the wedding vows that you would say- " "I'm asking for a divorce!" said Meghan was quick. She walked over to the drawer at the side of the bed and took something from there. It was a divorce paper. "Sign this. That way, I can get away from you!" Meghan threw the divorce papers in Terry's face, as well as the pen. Terry picked up the paper in disappointment. His hands shook as he read the contents of the paper. And to add insult to injury, his wife had already signed it. Terry crumpled the paper into a ball, then threw it into the corner of the room. "I don't want a divorce, Meghan. I don't want to break our marriage vows." Meghan smiled sarcastically. She gave Terry a condescending look, which was something Terry had only seen in his 3 years of marriage to the woman. "Wedding vows?" She asked with a sarcastic laugh. "Does anyone still use wedding vows nowadays? I don't think so." "What do you mean?" "In this era, marriage vows are just a formality. What matters is money, looks, and power. You don't have any of those." Meghan took Matthias by the hand and leaned her head back. Matthias smiled triumphantly at his lover's action. Terry's chest felt like it had been hit by a rock at his wife's words. It was painful. It was true that he didn't have all three. But did his wife have to say that and shatter his pride in front of another man? "Meghan, you-" "The point is, I want us to get a divorce. I don't care if you agree or not." Meghan sighed and quickly turned to the dilapidated closet in the corner of the room. She packed her meager clothes into the broken suitcase at the bottom of the closet. Terry rounded his eyes. He walked over to Meghan. He gripped his wife's hand, intending to stop her. "Meghan, where are you going? I'm not allowing you to leave!" "I don't need to hear your words. Besides, I don't love you anymore." Meghan retorted in a cold tone. She shook off Terry's hand with all her might. After finishing packing her clothes into the suitcase, she pulled Matthias out of the cramped room. Terry chased behind. He grabbed his wife's wrist to stop Meghan from leaving their apartment. "Meghan. Please don't leave me alone because of money. I have no one else." Terry begged in a pleading tone. Meghan brushed Terry's hand away roughly, causing Terry to fall to the side. "I don't care, Terry. I'm still going!" "Why do you insist on going?" "Because I'm already pregnant with Matthias' baby." Terry's heart was shattered beyond repair. From the corner of his eyes, tears welled up. His tongue was too stiff to utter a word, as if something was holding him back. His body was frozen. Of all the events, this was the one that hit him the hardest. Seeing Terry motionless, Meghan left the apartment, dragging the suitcase in her right hand and Matthias in her left. Before Matthias was completely out, he whispered into Terry's ear with a wide grin. "Loser." Terry was frozen in place, watching his wife's departure with Matthias from behind. His insides screamed in pain with infinite tightness. Terry clutched his chest, struggling to catch his breath. "This hurts." Not yet done with the pain, Dylan came from the direction of his room, carrying the paper bag he was going to give Meghan. "Where are you taking the paper bag?" Dylan stopped his steps. Then he turned his eyes to the paper bag in his hand. "Oh, I'll give it to Meghan." "Excuse me?!" "You want to give it to her, right? That's why I brought it," Dylan replied casually without any embarrassment. Terry bit her lip. His hands were again clenched into fists, and his jaw was tightly clenched. "Meghan has already left with another man. So you have no right to take her." "Of course I do," Dylan said, crossing his arms over his chest haughtily. "Isn't this Meghan's right? And you did intend to give it to her, right? Then why are you forbidding me to take it?" "Of course I forbid it! It's a hard-earned item that I bought from my savings. And you still have the pride to bring it?! Don't you have any shame?" "If I don't bring it, what will you do with it?" Terry was silent. He couldn't reply to Dylan's words. His brain was suddenly stuck, unable to think. "You would have thrown it away too. So instead of wasting it, I'll take it," Dylan walked back out of Terry's apartment. At the doorway, he turned around and said it again. "You shouldn't be hurt by what Meghan said. She did this because she said you were impotent. So I think Meghan did the right thing to leave you." After saying that, Dylan walked out of Terry's apartment. "What? Impotent?! Hey, Dylan, who said I was impotent?! Come back here!" Terry continued to yell at Dylan, who walked in front of him without looking back. "Damn, he didn't hear me! Why would he say I'm impotent? Is Meghan making up stories about me?" He screeched in annoyance. He ran his hands through his hair so roughly that it looked disheveled. Another sigh escaped his mouth. With Dylan's back out of sight, Terry chose to rest. Besides, he also had to find a way to persuade Meghan to return to his arms. Terry chose to use the guest room and slept there until waiting for curfew. *** At 7 p.m., Terry was already getting ready with his work clothes clinging to his body. His face still looked disheveled and crumpled. Apparently, sleep didn't help to ease his anger. However, he tried to suppress the emotion. Terry didn't want personal problems to mix with work. So, as much as possible, Terry put on a fake smile, acting all right. As he was putting his jacket away in his locker, Jake approached him in a hurry. "Terry, can we talk for a minute?" Terry raised his eyebrows. It felt strange to see Jake approaching him first, like now. Especially with a face that looked confused and annoyed at the same time. "Sure, what do you want to talk about?" asked Terry, trying to speak in a friendly tone. "Sorry, I have to tell you this. But you can't work here anymore." Terry's eyes rounded at that. "What? But why?" He asked without pause. "The boss asked you to stop working. As for the severance pay, I'll send it later," Jake replied unpleasantly. He grasped his own wrist tightly, and his head bowed. Terry was naturally disappointed. The thought of becoming a permanent employee was gone. After the problem with Meghan, it seemed that fate still wanted to play with him by taking away his job. "But why? Didn't you say I was going to be a permanent employee? Is there something else behind my dismissal?" "Alright. Since I consider you a brother, I'll tell you." Jake glanced around the room, making sure no one was eavesdropping on his conversation. "It's because of Mr. Matthias' orders."Chapter 004: Ben Clayton"Damn it!" Terry growled and swore in a low voice. His hands were clenched tightly again. His nails dug into his palm again, in the same place, making the wound deeper. The man turned his face the other way, trying to look strong in front of Jake. However, Jake saw through it all. He was also angry at the man in charge up there. But he couldn't help anything."Sorry, I couldn't prevent our boss from firing you," Jake said guiltily. He patted Terry on the back, hoping to comfort the man.Terry turned his head toward Jake. Then he gave a faint smile in response. "Thank you for comforting me and telling me this fact."The two fell silent again. Incidentally, there was no one else in the room but the two of them. The atmosphere was awkward and strange. Jake himself was at a loss for what to say to break the ice.Terry was thinking. Matthias had so much power that he had the power to sabotage his work. Honestly, there was a feeling of hatred embedded in Ter
Chapter 005: The Trap "Eh? How did you know?"Terry rounded his eyes, realizing his words. His heart was beating faster than usual. His face looked pale, more so than before. His body froze for a few seconds. In addition, sweat the size of corn kernels began to flow from her temples. Terry covered his mouth with the palm of his hand. His eyes moved restlessly with a panicked facial expression. Gosh, what did he say to that stranger?Terry turned his face the other way with reddened ears, feeling ashamed of himself for acting carelessly. "Sorry, I misspoke."Ben smiled slightly, then looked at Terry with a probing gaze. "Really?""Yes," Terry answered briefly, not wanting to argue any longer."Well, that's too bad." Ben sounded disappointed. His voice sounded much lower compared to before. "I was looking for the youngest son of the Walter family. I thought you were the one. But you're not?"Curiosity now filled Terry's heart. He turned his head until he met Ben's gaze, who
Chapter 006: Target A blond man strode with wide strides down an office hallway. He wore an all-black suit from head to toe. What was most striking about him was that he had amber-colored eyes and shoulder-length earrings with X-shaped tips. In his hand was a file containing several important documents. The man was not walking alone. He was accompanied by two people who looked just like him. The difference was that both men had pistols on their left legs. The faces of the two men who were recognized as bodyguards looked flat.Once in front of the door, the blond man immediately entered without knocking first. "Mr. Daniel, we have a target."The other platinum-haired man named Daniel turned his chair. It was facing the window towards the person in front of him. Daniel was wearing a navy-colored suit. His hands were folded in front of his chest with a haughty face. "How can you be so sure, X?""You can see it in the document I brought," X said, thrusting the document he was ho
Chapter 007: The Trainor Family (1) Ben came out of the bathroom after his business with Steve was over. He glanced at the fancy watch on his wrist. It was 8.15 p.m. That meant Steve had been on the phone for an hour!Ben immediately ran towards his desk, afraid that Terry would leave him. Moreover, he had not been able to get close enough to convince the man to take him home to Walter's family. If this happened, then the mission he was on would fail. And he would have to suffer dire consequences from Mr. Walter. Moreover, the family had its weaknesses.Once at his desk, Ben breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Terry still sitting there. With two glasses of juice and a coffee cup that looked empty."Ah, thank goodness you are still here."Terry glared at Ben. His hands were folded over his chest, and his jaw tightened. "What took you so long?""There are some things I need to take care of with my coworkers." Ben said it in a friendly tone. He sat back in his chair and drank t
Chapter 008: The Trainor Family (2)"Oh, Madam Yessa," Terry politely greeted Meghan's mother, who had just come out of her private room. The middle-aged woman was dressed in a luxurious outfit of fiery red."Good evening. Forgive me if my arrival disturbs you."Yessa shifted her gaze to Terry. Her lips pulled upward, forming a sardonic smile. That sharp, condescending gaze she cast on Terry, who was currently trying to maintain a smile,."If you know you're bothering me, why are you still here?" Yessa asked in a sarcastic tone. Her hands, full of gold bracelets, were folded in front of her chest. As if to show what assets she had. As Terry recalled, Yessa had no jewelry. Then, where did all that jewelry come from?Terry was silent for a moment, trying to come up with an excuse that would make his mother-in-law accept his visit. "I'm here to visit you.""Just visiting me?" Yessa asked again. "Are you sure that's your intention?""Actually, I...""Want to take Meghan back an
Chapter 009: Family Members After taking Terry back to his apartment, Ben drove his car towards his headquarters. He drove his car at a moderate speed. In less than 10 minutes, Ben arrived at a forest that was far from the residential area. He stored his favorite Porche car in one of the places he had marked, considering that the car would not enter the path he was about to take."Hah, sometimes I'm too lazy to come to the base because the access is so bad," Ben grumbled. He took his phone out of his pocket and turned on his flashlight for light, then started walking towards the path that stretched about 200 meters ahead. As soon as he reached an old building, Ben entered it without permission. He took off his shoes and put them on the shelf beside the door. The inside of the building was very different from the outside."You're late for our appointment," commented someone who was currently focused on the computer in front of him. His pointed, fox-like eyes were focused on th
Chapter 010: Old Best Friend?"Who are you?""Me?"The blond man with amber eyes pointed at himself. His eyes rounded for a few moments before finally flashing a wide, meaningful smile."I was one of your friends when we were in elementary school. Have you forgotten me already?"Terry furrowed his brow. He thought for a moment while remembering the man in front of him. Honestly, Terry had trouble remembering people's faces, especially if it had been a long time since he met them.Besides, his eyes scanned the man's appearance. Blond hair, amber eyes, shoulder-length earrings with an x on the end, then an expensive-looking black suit from head to toe. This man was from the upper class."Sorry, I don't remember you. You might have the wrong person."The amber-eyed man snorted in annoyance, then walked up to Terry and put his hand on the man's shoulder."I'm Kai. Your best friend before I moved to Germany to follow my father." The man introduced himself in a confident voice. "
Chapter 011: On the WayThroughout the trip, it was quiet in the car. Both Terry and Kai were lost in their own thoughts.Terry turned his head towards the window, looking at the many tall buildings along the road he passed.Terry looked bored with this silence. Moreover, Kai didn't say anything about the work he was going to do. A rough sigh escaped his lips."Kai?" Terry called out after a long time of being stuck in silence."What's wrong?" Kai replied. He did not turn his head toward Terry. His eyes were still focused on the slightly congested road."When I'm at Van Derrick's office, what will I be working as?" He asked in a low voice. "Anyway, I have to know about the job I'll be doing first," he continued.Kai was silent. His mouth was locked tightly. His hands gripped the steering wheel quite firmly, as if he were holding back the emotions that were about to burst out. However, his facial expression did not change in the slightest, looking flat and expressionless. a"
