Chapter 006: Target

A blond man strode with wide strides down an office hallway. He wore an all-black suit from head to toe.

What was most striking about him was that he had amber-colored eyes and shoulder-length earrings with X-shaped tips. In his hand was a file containing several important documents.

The man was not walking alone. He was accompanied by two people who looked just like him. The difference was that both men had pistols on their left legs. The faces of the two men who were recognized as bodyguards looked flat.

Once in front of the door, the blond man immediately entered without knocking first. "Mr. Daniel, we have a target."

The other platinum-haired man named Daniel turned his chair. It was facing the window towards the person in front of him.

Daniel was wearing a navy-colored suit. His hands were folded in front of his chest with a haughty face. "How can you be so sure, X?"

"You can see it in the document I brought," X said, thrusting the document he was holding towards Daniel. Then he stepped back and kept his hands on his back.

Daniel took the document, looking carefully at each line of text. His large hands turned the pages carefully.

When he saw the second page, Daniel pulled the corners of his lips up, forming a small, cruel-looking grin.

"Wow, I didn't expect you to work so fast, X."

X looked flat, choosing not to react to the praise from his superior. "It's my job to carry out your orders."

"You look down on yourself too much, X." Daniel got up from his chair, walking towards X, who was still firmly standing in front of him.

"You should be proud of yourself for finding him before them."

"Even so, we can't rest easy for now, Mr. Daniel."

Daniel furrowed his brow. He didn't understand X's words, which sounded ambiguous. "What do you mean?"

"Because Walter's family is also determined to move in to get the target,"

Daniel stroked his chin, looking thoughtful. A deep frown appeared on his forehead. His eyebrows dipped sharply with a serious expression. "Right? Why did I just find out?"

X bit his lip. He clenched his hands, which felt wet behind his back. "Because they made a secret move. Just like us."

"Then who did the Walter family send down to get the Target?"

"Ben Clayton."

Daniel was silent for a few seconds. His face looked flat for a few moments. Until shortly, his jaw tightened with a dark aura surrounding him. His eyes were as sharp as a sharpened sword.

"Ben Clayton?" Daniel asked in an angry tone. "How can he be on the Walter family's side?"

"From what I've heard, Walter's family has a weakness. But I don't know what."

Daniel put his hand on X's shoulder, then squeezed it very hard. X bit his lip to stifle the pain he felt in his shoulder.

"Those bastards are apparently starting to want our jewels," Daniel growled in a low tone, which sent chills down his spine.

"Terry Alfred Walter. We need to get to that man as soon as possible, before Walter's family does."

"What big mistake are you talking about?"

Ben furrowed his brow. He watched every expression on Terry's face carefully. The deep creases on the forehead, the rough, heavy-sounding breaths, and the deeply clenched hands. Ben could tell that Terry was in a high emotional state today.

"It's nothing," Terry said, turning his face the other way. He was trying to neutralize his ragged breathing.

Ben felt that Terry needed help. He took Terry's hand and grasped it tightly. Which made Terry startled by the sudden touch.

"You can tell me if you want." Ben paused for a moment as he rubbed Terry's hand, which felt rough from overwork.

"It would be better if you shared your problems with me. You can consider me a friend."

"Thanks for the offer. But sorry, I have to decline." Terry withdrew his hand that was in Ben's grasp. Showing a strong defensive stance.

"Why?"

"We're not that close yet. I only met you a few minutes ago.

"But you can assume that I-"

"Still can't!" Terry interrupted Ben's words in the lowest possible tone, minimizing their conversation from being heard by others. Considering they were both still in a public place,.

"I don't know you. We're here because you want to apologize, right? So please, don't invade my privacy." Terry's voice sounded even lower, sounding pleading.

Ben couldn't bring himself to insist. He let out a harsh sigh. "I kind of need to be honest with you first, so you can trust me."

Terry did not react. He was still waiting to see what action Ben would take to convince him.

Ben took out a thick and expensive wallet from his pants pocket. He showed a light blue card. "Let's get introduced once again the right way. I'm Ben Clayton. The spy and accomplice of your father, Mr. Walter."

Terry winced in shock at this. Another tightness hit his chest. Why did problems come at him without any pause?

Starting with his wife filing for divorce, losing his job, and now his family appearing before him after 3 years?

"I was sent here to take you home, Terry. Mr. Walter wants to talk to you and set the record straight."

Terry laughed blandly. His eyes looked blank, and his voice sounded strange. "So, my dad told you to force me to come home?"

"More like persuade you to come home," Ben corrected quickly. "He needs you to fill his position at the company. So, I guess you're better off working with."

"No, no, no. Thank you!" Terry again interrupted Ben's unfinished speech with a cold tone.

"Tell the old man I won't be back until he's kneel at my feet."

Ben was silent. He was still waiting for what Terry would say to him. Because, honestly, this was sounding more and more complicated yet interesting at the same time.

"If he doesn't do that, what are you going to do?"

"Then he can't pull me back into Walter's family." Terry folded his hands in front of his chest with a cold face.

"As I swore to him when I left the family, I will not return until he prostrates himself at my feet and confesses all his sins."

Before Ben could react, his cell phone rang loudly, signaling an incoming call. "Sorry, I'm going to the back to pick up the phone."

"Go ahead."

Ben went to the bathroom and saw who had just called him. On the screen, it was Steve. Quickly, Ben picked up the phone.

"Hello?"

"How's it going?"

"Very difficult. Target is hard to convince because of a personal issue with Mr. Walter."

"Use plan B."
