Diane returned home to a small and old area of Brookdale where she and her parents lived. It was a three-bedroom flat, and also small compared to the luxury they used to live in when things were better for them.

The Lancasters ranked eighth among Brookdale’s top ten prominent families, and Diane’s father, Donald Lancaster, had once been set to inherit the family’s empire. As the eldest son, he was groomed for leadership, the future president of Lancaster Enterprises.

But everything changed.

Donald was suddenly accused of gambling and embezzling family funds. The allegations were damning, and his younger brother, David Lancaster, seized the opportunity to discredit him in front of their father, convincing him of Donald’s incompetence, and the fact that Donald had no son, no male heir, only made things worse.

Donald took a hard fall because of everything.

The family’s patriarch, old Gregory Lancaster, reclaimed every property under his name. The grand mansion Donald’s family once called

“How did you get my number?” Leon asked Diane over the phone, amused.“Yesterday,” Diane admitted. “At Grant Pharmacy. You gave it to us, remember?”Leon narrowed his eyes. “I gave it to Edward, not you.”“Well, I overheard it… and took it,” she confessed sheepishly. “So… yeah. That’s how I got your number, Mr. Leon. Please don’t hang up. Can we meet? Just once, please.”“No,” Leon shook his head as he walked out of the house. “I have no reason to meet with you.”“Why are you being like this to me?” Diane asked with a sad tone. “Can’t we at least be friends?”“I want nothing to do with you, Diane, so no. We are nothing. We will be nothing. Goodbye.”He ended the call without hesitation. He sighed, instinctively holding his chest, while amused. ‘That girl. Bold, isn’t she? She just got my number like that. And here I thought I won’t be hearing from her, ever again.’His phone rang again, and his teeth gritted in anger. Snatching up the call, his voice turned sharp. “I thought I made m

As they drove, Edward began to brief Leon about the situation. “Mr. Jarvis Grave is the top most prominent man in the country, but his only son and heir was involved in a DUI incident last year. He’s been in a coma ever since. Even doctors like myself have been unable to treat his condition.” Leon remained silent, his gaze fixed out the window. Edward continued, “Mr. Grant, after witnessing the miraculous effects of the restoration pill, requested another from me and presented it as a gift to Mr. Grave. As expected, the wounds from the accident healed completely. However, the boy remains in a coma. That’s why Mr. Grave has personally demanded you to treat his son.” Leon kept quiet, while staring at the window and one would think he wasn't listening. He was watching the world blur past. The car was impressive, smooth, powerful, far superior to the taxi he had taken earlier. Even though he understood how these machines worked, he found himself mildly impressed. Edward, growing

Sebastian’s accusation sent a wave of confusion through the room. “What?” Dean turned his sharp gaze to Edward. “Is that true?” Edward shook his head in disbelief. “He’s wrong, Mr. Grant! Mr. Azrael made those pills right in front of me.” Sebastian scoffed, his finger jabbing in their direction. “You two are in this together, aren’t you? I see it now, Edward, you did this because you’re trying to climb the ranks, aren’t you? You’re not satisfied being third, so you stole my hard work!” His voice trembled with self-righteous fury. Leon tilted his head, eyeing the old man with mild amusement. “Wow. For someone your age, you severely lack wisdom. It’s a wonder you haven’t died from a stroke yet, though I fear you might.” Sebastian’s face flushed red. “Are you cursing me?!” he bellowed. Leon smirked but said nothing. Edward took a step forward, his voice firm. “Mr. Grave, Mr. Coggins is lying to you. Mr. Azrael created those pills with his own hands. I saw it myself. And now,

Shocked, Jarvis shot a suspicious glance at Sebastien. Sebastien was the only who had come into contact with his son most of the time since the accident. Therefore, it was easy to see who could be the culprit.Sebastian, sensing the shift in the room, swallowed hard but forced out a laugh. “Azrael… or whatever your name is. A-are you seriously accusing me?” He straightened, feigning confidence. “Where’s your proof? Throwing baseless accusations around won’t make them true! I could sue you for slander! I have done nothing but devote myself to saving young master Grave so how dare you try to frame me?”Ignoring Sebastien, Leon said, “This boy’s problem right now stems from the side effects of manipulating PC6. Irregular heartbeats, drop in blood pressure, even seizures…” then he reached for a sterile needle. He pressed the needle against GV20, the crown of the head, and once he did, the boy’s breathing deepened slightly, the erratic peaks on the monitor smoothing out. Then his fingers

Leon was satisfied to see Jarvis bow to his will. “This is good,” he mused. “Now that you kneel to me, that means I stand above everyone, doesn’t it?” Jarvis hesitated, brow furrowing. “Not exactly,” he admitted. “This city still has its laws. And there are powerful figures, both in the underground and within the system itself.” Leon bobbed his head, understanding him. “Then they should learn who true power belongs to.” His gaze sharpened. “And that’s where you come in. I have a task for you, and you will do it well.” Jarvis sighed, and replied, “What do you need me to do?” “First,” Leon said, glancing around at the watchful guards, “do you have an office? I’d prefer privacy.” Jarvis led Leon to his huge office, and Edward followed, happy to see that he was included in whatever discussion they were about to have. The door closed shut. Then Jarvis said, “I’m all ears now.” “I’d like to stay anonymous,” he made known, taking off his face cap. “Since you serve me now, it’s only r

Leon cast an indifferent glance at the towering building before turning his sharp gaze back to Diane. “Are you implying that this place is beyond me?” Diane hesitated, clearly trying to avoid sounding rude. “I mean… I can’t afford to eat here, and, no offense, but you don’t really look like someone who can either.” Leon glanced down at his casual shirt and jeans, then let out a low chuckle. “I see. All the more reason for me to walk through those doors.” According to Jarvis, he owned the building and since Jarvis served him now, then Echelon itself would bow to his presence. Diane, however, grew visibly anxious. “Wait, please, we’re just going to get into trouble. I only need to talk to you. We can find somewhere simple to sit and discuss.” She grabbed his wrist and attempted to pull him away. Before she could take another step, a sleek black Accord pulled up in front of them. Leon and Diane settled into their private booth, and the moment they did, a holographic menu projected upward from the table, displaying an extravagant selection of high-end cuisine.Diane’s eyes widened in disbelief. She blinked, then blinked again, as if her vision was playing tricks on her. Every dish started at thirty thousand dollars and only climbed higher from there.“This… this is robbery,” she whispered under her breath, barely able to process it. Her hands clenched into fists in her lap as she tried to suppress her reaction, but her stiff posture betrayed her discomfort. Her gaze darted toward Julian and Brianna, silently questioning whether they were actually prepared to cover such a ridiculous bill.Meanwhile, Leon? “Aren’t you being a little too rude?” Leon asked Brianna. Julian scoffed, his smirk widening. “Rude? What’s so rude about what Brianna said? She only spoke the truth.” He turned to the onlookers, eager to humiliate Leon further. “Everyone, allow me to introduce this man… Leon Ashford. A professional freeloader with an unmatched talent for being a burden to those around him. The audacity of him walking in here, knowing he can’t afford a single thing. Truly remarkable.” The waiter sighed, clearly frustrated as he glanced between them. The commotion was drawing attention, the murmur of the patrons growing louder. Julian smirked, wanting to stir things further. “Tell me, Diane, how did you even meet this guy? What could have possibly led you to associate with someone like him? Look at where it’s gotten you, embarrassed in public, stuck with a man who can’t even pay for his own meal.” He shook his head dramatically. “Even his wife finally came to her senses and dumped him. Leon was given a full tour of his new residence, each room introduced with its specific function. He was even assigned a few maids to handle all cleaning duties and a private estate chef to prepare his meals.Maple Grove stood as one of the most prestigious residential areas in all of Brookdale, spanning over 5,000 acres and housing 166 grand estates, each designed with expansive country living in mind. Despite its size, 50 of the units remained unsold, not due to a lack of wealthy buyers, but because few met the strict requirements for ownership.Developed by Christopher Vale himself, Maple Grove was more than just a place to live, it was a statement of status. Ownership wasn’t a matter of money alone; it required qualification. No matter how wealthy or eager a buyer might be, even offering ten times the original price, if they didn’t meet the criteria, they wouldn’t be allowed to own property there. Each estate had a starting value of forty million, but the one granted to Leon was w
