Their eyes brightened as they saw the name on the caller ID. The insult glaring from the screen silenced them momentarily, but the tension in the room only thickened.

“It’s Tedmond,” Max confirmed, his voice a mix of relief and resentment. “He finally called.”

“I’m going to give him a piece of my mind after this!” Madison yelled, crossing her arms. “How dare he contact us so late? Does he want us to lose favor with his so-called baby mama? He’s playing games with the entire family!”

Harold’s lip curled in disdain as he answered the call, gripping the phone tightly. His voice dripped with venom. “What do you want, you ungrateful bastard? You kept the entire family waiting like fools!”

Tedmond’s calm voice came through the speaker, unaffected by Harold’s fury. “Good evening, Father. I see you’re as composed as ever.”

“Don’t waste my time with pleasantries, Tedmond!” Harold barked. “Why are you calling now? Do you think your antics amuse anyone here?”

“I’m calling to let you know the mee

“Good morning, Mr. President.” The people in the conference room rose to their feet, greeting Tedmond as he walked in.Dressed in a black tailored suit with black gloves and a mask on his face, Tedmond strode into the office, his eyes scanning the room. The table in the middle of the conference room was large, with chairs of different colors on either side. One corner was gray, the other black. The gray side had three people seated, several neatly arranged files in front of them, as if prepared for a presentation. The black side was empty.Tedmond’s lips curled into a ruthless smile. “Good morning,” he chirped.Lora followed behind him as he took his seat—the one designated for him. Lora sat in the chair set slightly apart from the others, three steps away from Tedmond’s.The attendees in the conference room were from GNN, which had only three representatives. The empty side of the table was reserved for the Griffins, who had yet to arrive.‘I didn’t even give the GNN a special notice

The room grew silent, the weight of Tedmond’s words pressing down on everyone. Harold quickly glanced at Maxine, who avoided his gaze, instead focusing on arranging the files. The other woman’s hands trembled slightly as she connected the cables, and Harold cleared his throat, attempting to mask the growing tension.“We’ll start now,” Harold said, his voice low but determined. Despite his attempt to project confidence, the uncertainty in his tone was unmistakable. No one needed to tell the GNN group that Tedmond had an issue with Griffin’s cooperation. It was clear that he didn’t like them one bit, and that meant a potential victory for GNN. However, they refused to show any emotions relating to that.Duncan observed Tedmond’s expression as he watched Griffin’s presentation begin. From what he knew about facial cues, he could tell that beneath Tedmond’s composed demeanor, there was a mocking smile. It was as if Tedmond was enjoying their embarrassment.‘Did he intend to make them emba

Maxine peered at Tedmond. “What?”“Are you saying that GNN were the ones who spread the information about the meeting and went ahead to frame you so that they would be picked?” Tedmond asked, his tone sharp, knowing full well she might seize the opportunity to pin the blame on GNN.Harold was stunned at the accusation. Duncan and his crew exchanged looks, equally taken aback by the unexpected question.“President…” Harold began, his voice faltering as he quickly calculated his response. If he denied GNN’s involvement, it would imply that he or his daughter was responsible. ‘Blaming GNN might be safer,’ he thought. ‘If Tedmond himself suggested it, he must already distrust them.’“I have no idea what’s going on, but they may spread the rumors to get us attacked,” Harold replied, his tone cautious. “I didn’t want to bring it up, but I had no choice.”Tedmond arched his brow, while Duncan frowned at Harold’s words.“What the heck are you talking about?!” one of Duncan’s men shouted, jump

“Oh, you guys are here already?” Persis questioned, feigning surprise as she joined Max, Lisa, and Evelyn at the table. They all stared at her. Max’s eyebrows shot up as he noticed her face, though a half mask covered most of it, leaving only the tip of her nose, mouth, and chin visible. She wore a black straight pencil skirt, a hot pink blouse, and a little hat perched on her head.Persis accessorized with the latest diamond necklace, bracelets, and earrings. A sparkling diamond ring adorned her engagement finger. She had prepared one herself since she and Tedmond hadn’t picked out rings for their fake engagement yet.She looked elegant in heels, exuding confidence. Bianca, holding her right hand, frowned as she spotted the family. Bianca was dressed similarly to her mother, but her skirt was replaced with shorts.“Hello!” Max and Evelyn greeted in unison. Before anyone could blink, Max sprang to his feet and pulled out the chair opposite them for Persis to sit.“Have a seat,” he sai

Even the waiter was shocked upon hearing the question. When he had heard Evelyn's words, he had thought she must be a good grandmother, but he could never expect that she would be lying.“Bianca is allergic to pasta,” Persis said. “Don’t tell me you don’t know?”Evelyn froze; there was no way she could get out of it now. Her lie had been caught. She had tried to make it seem like she was close to Bianca, but that only made things worse for her.“I thought she liked pasta,” Evelyn said, trying to defend herself. “She told me she liked it, and I made it every time she came.”Persis arched her brows but laughed inwardly. There was nothing like Bianca being allergic to pasta. She had just made it up since Evelyn had been lying throughout their time together.“Did you see her eat it?” Persis pressed, wanting to disturb Evelyn further. “I doubt she ever ate with you. Since she is allergic to pasta, and you claimed it’s her favorite, has everything you said been a lie? Are you sure you’re ge

“Okay?” Persis asked, her tone calm but curious, eager to see what Lisa was trying to pull next.Lisa smirked and turned her phone toward Persis. “You might think Tedmond is marrying you, but he’s been flirting with many girls at the university. The girl on the screen is one of them.”On the phone screen was a picture of Tedmond and Persis. It was from the day she had held Tedmond’s hand and led him to the cafeteria. Now, Lisa was twisting it against her?“I don’t mind if he’s close to other women,” Persis said, her voice unbothered. “Besides, the girl in that picture is no match for me. She isn’t even that pretty,” she added, slyly roasting herself. “Is that all you’ve got?”Lisa’s smirk grew. “She’s his current favorite,” she said mockingly. “It seems Tedmond hasn’t left his wild days behind. What do you say to that, Persis?”“That’s interesting,” Persis replied coolly. “But if you’re trying to convince me of something, Lisa, you’ll need more than a picture of Tedmond being polite.”

Evelyn couldn’t shake off the fact that Tedmond’s words might have made Persis think Harold and Maxine didn’t find her important enough to meet, and she wanted to clear the misunderstanding.“It’s not like that!” Evelyn said. “They had to go to the company to meet an important client. Since the contract involved a huge amount of money, they had no choice. But they’ll be here soon.”Persis looked at Evelyn, wondering why she was trying so hard to convince her. It wasn’t that important for the entire family to be present.“I don’t mind,” Persis replied. “They have important business to attend to. It’s not a must for them to be here.”Evelyn flinched, clearly not expecting that response, but she kept her composure. “Let’s wait a little while. They’ll be here soon.”Maxine nodded in support of his mother’s words. Evelyn had asked him to ensure Tedmond’s baby mama stayed if the business meeting took too long.“They’ll be here soon. My little sister has been eager to meet you for a long tim

When Maxine and Harold finally arrived home, it was 10 PM. The company had let them go since the lawyer arrived at 9 PM. The discussion hadn’t been long, so they were able to return an hour later. Both wore frowns; it had been a long day. Not only had they lost face at the company in front of a rival, but they were also unable to meet with Tedmond’s baby mama.Worse, they weren’t even sure if they could secure the contract anymore.Entering the Griffin mansion, Harold and Maxine were greeted by the sight of Lisa, Max, and Evelyn waiting in the living room.Without explaining, Maxine headed straight upstairs, her gaze downcast. “I’m going to bed. The maid can leave my food at the door. No one should bother me,” she said curtly.Max and Evelyn exchanged confused looks as she left.“What’s wrong with her?” Evelyn asked Harold. “She didn’t look like that when you left. Did something happen at the company?”Harold sank into a seat beside them and recounted everything that had transpired. B

They had been sure he wasn’t the real person, but now that the truth was out, they were both shocked and terrified of what would happen to them.Ms. Kurt's breath hitched, and she took an unconscious step back, her once-confident expression crumbling. The realization that she had insulted the head of the Washington family—twice—sent chills down her spine."I-I…" Hans stammered, his fingers trembling as he gripped the card. His mind raced for an excuse, a way to backtrack, but the proof was undeniable. He had been the one who claimed Tedmond wasn’t the real person. If only he had kept his mouth shut when everyone believed Tedmond, he wouldn’t have so much to deal with now.Persis folded her arms, tilting her head slightly as she regarded them with an unimpressed gaze. "Well?" she drawled. "Is that enough proof for you all, or do you need him to bring his birth certificate too?"At the mention of the birth certificate, both of them hurriedly shoo

Persis peered at Lenny, her brows furrowing. She had just revealed his real identity, yet everyone refused to believe her, convincing themselves he wasn’t who she claimed.Tilting her head to the side, she nodded. “He is Julius Washington, and we are engaged to be married.”Lenny’s face turned pale, and he gripped Persis’s shoulder. He was so terrified that he had insulted a Washington that he didn’t even register the second part of her sentence about being engaged to Tedmond.“Are you sure he’s really the one?” Lenny asked. At that moment, Hans spoke up. In his mind, he couldn’t allow more people to be deceived by Persis and Tedmond.“He isn’t Julius Washington. No one knows what Julius looks like, so why would he have a mask on in the first place? He’s someone tons of people look up to. Since you first saw him as a driver, then that must be what he is.”“That’s right,” a woman murmured. “You already saw him as a driver, so he isn’t Mr. Washington.”“He’s just an imposter.”“I can’t

The words brought silence to the room, and everyone began nodding. Tedmond glared at the man who had just spoken. It was clear they wanted him to reveal his face—something he had no intention of doing.“He’s right,” one of the guests said. “We haven’t seen Mr. Washington's face, and this one is wearing a mask. How can we be sure it’s him?”“He must have come here to fool us.”“If Hans is telling the truth, then he must have also fooled Miss Damon and made her think he’s Mr. Washington,” a woman stated, her voice louder than the rest. She held a wine glass in her hand and wore a dark green dress. “He must have come to the party without an invitation, too.”“If he turns out to be an imposter, what should we do?” a man questioned.Hans grinned. Just as he had expected, the others were beginning to doubt the man in front of them. Although Tedmond had acted and spoken like a Washington, Hans knew how to spot a faker.Ms. Kurt raised her head to look at Tedmond, a frown crossing her face. S

Tedmond's eyes snapped to the man the moment the words left his lips. Fiancé? There had been marriage offers for her? Was that why she had suddenly asked him to marry her?Just by looking at the people speaking to them, he could already tell what kind of person the so-called little brother was.The first woman—Ms. Kurt. That was when Persis finally remembered who she was.She was one of the reasons Persis avoided events like this. Ms. Kurt had once tried to set her younger brother up with Persis—something she despised. If she had known she would run into Ms. Kurt at the party, she would have asked Mr. Cain to revoke her invitation altogether.“It isn’t nice to bring a lowlife to a party, dress him up, and then reject Ms. Kurt’s offer like this,” the man added. “It would be better if your partner left. We’d make sure no one spreads rumors about you bringing a nobody as your date.”They were certain she wasn’t involved with anyone. And since they didn’t recognize the man with her, they

How could she forget? They had spent hours together as kids. He had always been there, always admired her. He thought she would at least hold some memory of him, even if it was faint. But the way she had looked at him—like he was just some random guy—made his stomach churn. And that driver.Lenny’s jaw tightened as he recalled the way Persis had clung to Tedmond, how she had locked hands with him so easily as if he meant something to her. Back outside, Tedmond continued to ignore the brown-haired man. No matter how loud or insistent he was, Tedmond glanced at his wristwatch, checking the time.“Hey! You’re just an ordinary driver.”Just then, the sound of clicking heels drew their attention. Both men turned toward the source of the sound.Persis was stepping out of the building. The brown-haired man’s face lit up, and he rushed toward her. “You’re here!”However, she brushed right past him and stopped in front of Tedmond.Holding his hand, she peered up at him with a bright smile. The brown-haired man froze, his face turning pale. As soon as the words left the man’s lips, Tedmond gave him a blank expression. He had never seen the man before and had no idea who he was. However, one question caught his attention. The man had just asked what he was doing in a house that was supposed to belong to someone else. Holding roses and mentioning Persis' name was enough for Tedmond to understand what the man wanted and what was going on.“Even if you’re a driver picking us up, why are you so damn dressed up like that?” the man demanded, pointing the bouquet of flowers at Tedmond. “Why are you overdressed? Are you trying to seduce your boss?”Hearing the man’s question, Tedmond arched a brow and glared at him. They didn’t know each other, yet the man had the audacity to make assumptions.“If you’re done delivering the flowers, you can leave,” Tedmond replied. “Or hand them over—I’ll give them to her when she gets here. It wouldn’t be right to keep you waiting when you have other jobs to do.”As soon as Tedmond spoke, the ma
