William felt heavy when he heard his best friend Vera's rejection. He frowned, trying to digest what had just happened.

"No, William, you won't be able to help us," Vera said in a cold, firm voice. There was a note of regret in her voice, but she stuck to her guns.

William thought for a moment, trying to string together the right words. He wanted to help, but maybe now his role was not too important. "All right, if that's what you want."

"I'll call you later, Vera," William said next.

"Yes, William, don't worry about us," Vera replied. "Sarah has asked Daniel for help. After all, they once loved each other. I'm sure Daniel will help."

William agreed, even though he knew it would be in vain. Daniel wouldn't be able to help them this time.

After hanging up the phone, William walked back to his dorm room, his footsteps. Apparently, William's roommates had heard the news about Sarah and they were talking about it.

Andrew, in a hateful tone, said, "It's good that Sarah is now in custody."
