In the hospital waiting room, the atmosphere was quiet and tense. Amanda looked at Thomas with teary eyes and a heavy heart. Her husband was lying in the operating room, his life dependent on the expensive surgery.

"No, Thomas," Amanda said, her voice hoarse, "my husband's surgery is very expensive. I'm going to tell the doctor that he can have regular care until we can raise the money to help him."

Thomas looked at her with sympathetic eyes. "That's okay, Aunt Amanda," he said, "I'll tell my father to help with Uncle Lyn's treatment."

However, Amanda shook her head, "No, Thomas, I'll work on this myself."

Thomas did not give up as he continued to try and get Vera's attention. He glanced at Vera who was sitting quietly in the corner of the room. She seemed indifferent, unaffected by the situation that was happening around them.
