chapter 4

Novice Town

In the garden of Eden, Vanya took a deep breath, opened her mouth wide, and exclaimed, "I am back!".

The moment she finished her recompense a farmiliar mechanical voice entered her head.

She was not the least bit startled by the unexpected sound of a voice coming from her head, as she remembered it very well.

"Welcome Player."

An old mechanical voice, entered her ears, though the voice seemed mechanical, you could still feel that it was coming from a living being, just that the being was too strong, that it looked down on beings like Vanya.

Vanya, on the other hand, was aware that the only reason she was able to hear this voice was because, she was a new player and this being had been put here to introduce the new players to the game.

"Welcome to the wonderfull world of pangu or you can also call it 'Game on', first and foremost does the user agree to partake in adventures on 'Game On' "

Alot of players, would not understand why this world was called Pangu and then Game on, but a person from the future like Vanya understood it all, this place was only call Game on just to make it easier for humans from earth to adapt to it, as this place would become the new home of humans from earth.

Vanya just responded, "I agree,"

She was aware that even though this was a straightforward inquiry, it was in fact a highly official consent that was being requested from anybody who desired to participate in this game or, more accurately, this world.

In his previous incarnation, there were even situations in which certain individuals answered no, and there were forever ban from playing the game, only the day the Apocalypse came were they finally sent to the Pangu world.

Players might think being excluded from the game didnt mean a thing, untill the day of the Apocalypse when all human were teleported to the pangu world without warning, alot of people died, because they had no power, most of the survivors were people who had gotten strong playing 'Game on'.

'Game on was a very strange game, as there was totally no avatar creation, a player would look exatly the way they looked in rea life inside the game.

Every aspect of the real world was faithfully recreated in the virtual environment, and there was only one opportunity for each person to compete.

The game was so generic that it was not possible to create additional accounts or to begin the process from scratch once more, incase someone didnt like his powers or avatars and wanted to start afresh. There were no fresh starts in 'Game on'

The cold mechanical voice, went on to explain some rules and funtion for Vanya, though she knew exatly what this being would say, she still listened attentively, as she knew how strong this, being was as even in her former life she had not even come close to the power of beings like that.

The cold voice commended her on how attentive she was, Vanya was smiling as this was the firat thing she wanted to achieve in the game, there was a mission that involved this being that gave a great loot, and passing or failing the mission depended on how this creature views the player.

"Player Vanya, I am going to do a full scan of your body right now, and as soon as the scan is through, your character will be created."

vanya gave a slight nod as she sensed a pulse of energy traveling through her body. She had the strange impression that the being with the cold voice was directed looking at her.

Others might think it was easy to scanning something body using skills while not directly in her face , but she knew this was being whose powers even she couldn't measure, Scanning someone body from far away was one of the smallest thing they could do.

"Congratulations player Vanya your profile has been successfully created and, you can now enter 'game On' "

Before Vanya could respond in any way, the area around her began to warp once more, and she suddenly found herself standing in the center of a Town.

"Woah! It another peson, and its a girl?"

"Damm, i didnt know this game is so ridiculous"

"Everything looks really lively, i dont even know if this is still a game"

"This is probably the best game that was 3v3r created, suprisinly there was nothing on the news about this game,"

"They are probably trying to keep it a secret and we are the beta testers"

"yeah, thats probably it, but damm there are too many beta testers"

"Guys lets go checkout the game, we cant slack off, when the game lunches we will become bigshots"

"Yeah, yeah!!"

Vanya, who was located in the beginner town was surrounded on all sides by other players, and noisy, disorganized conversation could be heard coming from all directions, she couldn't help but laugh when she heard some group refering to themselves as beta testers.

They will come to learn that this was 'Game On' official lunching, there were right about one thing though, the entire game was just a beta testing, before they would all be send to the world inside the game.

Everyone was putting up their best effort to figure out how to play 'Game On', alot of people had log out and fould that there was no afficial information about the game on the news, blogs or anywhere it was as if the game had just mysteriously been added to all virtual game servers.

The game was also very strange and peculiar in the sense that it felt almost too real to be a game. This was another one of the game's strange and peculiar qualities, no one had heard of any developer coming out with something this realistic, if it had happen it would have been all over the news.

One was able to move around and experience things as if they were in the outside world, but they were unable to modify any aspect of their identity in any manner, this was the only part that pissed people off, most gamers always took the look of avatars that were completely opposite of how they looked, but on 'Game on' there was no privacy.

Though the gamers dislike the game because of this, none of them was ready give up a chance like this, there was no game currently in the market that had this kind of realism, in another word 'Game on was gamers Paradise.

Alot of conspiracy was already all over the internet about this particular game, some people even started creating threads claiming they were some kind of prophet and that the game was going to become something like 'Sword Art Online' where all the players would be stuck inside the game.

Because of all what was happening, even the goverment of all countries had already started investigation on this creators of this game, some computer scientists even tried deleting the game on a close server but suprisinly the game refused to be deleted, this fascinated scientist that the game was labeled as a new wo der of the world, with all the buzz about 'Game on' this lead to more and more people joining the game.

Vanya shook her head as she saw how all the players were running place to place talking to NPC's who acted exactly like real humans with intelligence and contiousness. "If only she could tell them to take the game more seriously and focus on getting stronger, but she didnt know the ripple effects it would cause, and she was not ready to find out"

she did not squander her time mindlessly roaming around and begging the NPC for mission like other players did. But fled the squre of the tow as swiftly as she could and kept going deeper into the town untill the gathering of new players thinned out and there was no more disturbance.

"Okay, I guess it will do. Time to see what my perks are"

Vanya rested her back on house nearby meters deep into the town, she brought up her status screen, this was something she had been planning yo check for a long time.

some NPC walked by her and were looking at her, she knew if she went to them and talked to some of them, she might get some missions but, Vanya, on the other hand, was in absolutely no hurry at all. In point of fact, she did not intend to get any mission at this juncture of the game, she was more concerned about getting stronger first,

She willed it and her status screen appered infront of her

Name: vanya.

Level: 1

Class:None

Health:10

Mana: 10/10

Stamina: 1

Intelligence: 1

Vitality:1

Agility: 1

Vanya was in dismay when she saw her stat, it was exactly like last time and anothing had changed, she thought she was going to get some kind of perks since she had been brought to the past but everything was thesame, she hastily closed the screen afterward to prevent any further shame.

The initial numbers for the beginning stats might be anywhere from 0 to 10 points high, depending on the player's condition when the game began, the game was realistic so it used the players body as the metric to be measure in assigning point, so if someone had a weak body in real life, the weakness would show on the stats.

Given that Vanya was critically malnourished and that her existing body lacked any type of physical training, it should not have come as a surprise that her starting qualities were all on the low end of the scale, though she worked in a restaurant her boss was very strict, he didnt allow her carry even leftovers.

Considering that she had started the prior attempt with the same statistics as this one, the most significant change was that he was now informed of how to proceed, and knew alot of ways to improve the strength of her body, with one being the weird Yoga she had been doing before.

This seemingly tiny gap in abilities at the beginning of the game might not seem like much at first, but by the end of the game, it will throw you further behind and place you in a worse situation than before the game ever started, in other to be strong one had to create a strong foundation, if the foundation of a building was weak, the entire building would colapse as more weight is added on it.

Vanya started opening her inventory when he had done sighing and shook her head, even her inventory was empty as she wasn't given any treasures or skill that would change her life.

At the start of the game, some people were lucky and got treasures in their inventory, but it seemed that Vanya was just as unlucky as she was in her last life.

The only thing Vanya had was her cloth, that was distributed to all the beginners, though this items was fir beginners, it still had some boosts.

This boost wasn't really all that significant, but the fact that Vanya was walking around half-naked without wearing the cloth occasionally irritated certain NPCs, and he couldn't possibly remember the characteristics of each and every NPC in the game, if the NPC hated you, you probanly would get any missions there.

After the issue with her clothes was resolved, Vanya proceeded to access the function that provided her with the ability to view a map in order to pinpoint the whereabouts of some places she needed to go.

Vanya just like the other players in her area had spawn in the town square, this town was particularly different from the one she had spawn in in her last life, she needed to check the map to know exatcly where she should go.

There was a training ground that was located in the northern region of the town, but it did not have access to carts

Because of this, it will take about 30 minutes to walk to that area…

Vanya made the decision to take the main route, which was more circuitous and was frequently traveled by local merchants and

Despite the fact that it was possible to get to the outkirts were the training ground was in a much shorter amount of time, Vanya chose to take this route, so atleast she would get a look of the town.

She did this because she didn't want to have to defend herself against any wild animals if she were to run into any while she was out there, the shirtezt route was following through a forest that contained some animal, though they were not strong, but because of her level and weak body it was better she avoided any combat untill she had incresed her body strenght.

It's not that she was physically unable to take on these animals; rather, she just chose not to.

Therefore, while everyone else was busy looking for wild beasts and beginning missions to complete in order to level up, Vanya went to the outskirts of the towm by herself and took her time getting there.

It took her a little bit longer than an the 30 minutes she had stipulated for herself, but she made it to her destination without any hassles at all, which was just what she had anticipated would happen would happen.

She was able to enter the training ground without attracting the attention of the NPC and players thanks to the fact that she was still in level 1, and no one respected someone in level 1.

The training ground was substantially larger than usual, as this town was larger than the novice town Vanya had been in her former life, and it contained a greater number of players and even NPC.

But before going to the training area, Vanya eyes shined as she saw a building nearby, this oarticular building was the Adventurers guild buiding, she suprised as this place had been in the outskirts of the town, close to the training arae, though it kind of made sense since probably most mercenaries frequented the training ground.

The adventurer guild was one of the first places she had to go, from her last life she knew alot of players gained secret mission as a result of joining the adventurers guild.

The one problem she had now was how to convince the person in the adventurers guild to give her a first level mercenary emblem, first mercenaries were always between the level of 1 to 20, though only level 10 could become one through their own power, people under level 10 would only get an emblem if they had a letter of recommendation from the officials of the town.

Vanya had just started the game and had not made any contact with any Official that was an NPC so she didnt have a letter of recommendation, she started thinking of ideas as she walked into the building, immediately she entered her eyes lit up, and an idea started forming in her head.

"Hello. Hello. Good day to you, young lady. Why have you made the trip to pay The Adventurers guild a visit, are you looking for someone or placing a mission?"

Vanya rolled her eyes and spoke in a manner that was straight forward, omitting the formalities and false niceties that were expected of her as a response. "I have come to join the Adventurers guild"

She was well aware that there was no use in her making any attempts to smooth things up with this receptionist due to the fact that even though this person was a receptionist he was exceedingly vicious and cutthroat.

"Oooo… What an impressive turn of events, especially considering your level, which is almost none existent, do you have a letter of recommendation"

"No"

"Aspirations are important for young children and adolescents to have. I applaud your bravery, you young man, if you dont have a letter of recommendation there is no way for a level 1 to become a mecenary!"

"However, am sure if you are willing to do some things, you would get a letter of recommendation, i can introduce you to some people…"

The shop owner surveyed Vanya while tapping his fingers on the counter in front of her.

Vanya knew exactly what he was thinking about, she was a lady, so if she was willing to serve some official she would easily get a letter of recommendation l.

" am not doing something like that" Vanya answered with anger in her voice.

"Well, i cant help you yound lady"

"I want to take the binding oat"

the recptionist eyes flashed

"Well well, this is a new one, are you sure you want to take the oat, do you know the consequencies of not fulfiling it"

"Yes"

AA"well if your mind is made up there is nothing i can do"

the receptionist brought out a piece of paper and gave Vanya an ink Pen telling her to sign, Vanya collected the paper read it and then signed.

The oat says that Vanya owed the Adventurers guild a 1000 gold coins to be paid within a year, or she would become slave to the adventurers guild.

The recptionist smile after Vanya had signed the document, to the Adventurers guild this was a win win situation, they would either get a 1000 gold coins or a slave after 1 year, whichever one cane the guild didnt loose.

Vanya gave an inside snort and rolled her eyes, if not that she really needed the emblem of a mercenary she really wouldn't come here, she remembered alot of players that had become slaves because of this document, she wasnt worried though, a 1000 gold coins would soon become nothing to her.

[Ding. Player has taken an oat to say the adventurers guild the amount of one thousand gold coins to be paid within a year]

[Ding. If the full amount is not given to the adventurers guild within a year, the player will have everything taken away from them, and they will be become slaves for the rest of their lives.]

[Ding. You are the very first person to owe money in 'Game on'.]

[Player would get reduced interest rates whenever another a loan is taken or reduce time of payment whenever money is owed]

Vanya was at a loss for expression as she stood in front of the alerts, unable to choose between laughing and crying.

She was happy to get the unexpectedly modest bonus despite the fact that it was only usefull when she borrowed or loan money.

The receptionist gave her an green shining emblem with a title first level mercenary on it.

[Player has become a mercenary, and is now allowed to take missions from the adventurerer guild, or directly from other people]

Vanya smiled as she collected the emblem, this emblem was going to help her in a lot of ways, she quickly walked out of the guild after collecting it.
