"Alex," Natalie called out, breaking into Alex's thought process. "I was asking you a question."
"Hey fellas!" The coach yelled as Alex opened his mouth. "Get into positions. Let the training begin." He backed his words up with a whistle.
"Umm, I gotta go Natalie," Alex said as he jogged away from her and found himself in the hurdle created by the coach.
The basketball court was filled with three groups.
On one side was Alex and his guys plus his teammates, eager to train.
On the other side was Nathan and his bullying mates, who sat comfortably on the chairs with a devious smile on their faces.
And then there was the group of cheerleaders, led by Caroline and Jasmine. The two girls who had made it their life goal to continuously humiliate Alex.
Alex looked up at the boys who sat on the benches and knew that his mental health was about to be played with.
"Hey, Alex!" His coach suddenly called out, breaking into his line of thoughts.
"Are you listening to me?" The man asked, drawing his attention back to the hurdle.
"Yes, sir," Alex answered almost immediately
"Okay, now. Guy, listen up. I don't want you to see this as just training, okay. I want you to see this as an opportunity to make yourselves proud and improve on your skills. So go out there and show me what you got! Remember, team work makes the dream work!" The coach advised with a loud voice causing everyone in the courtyard to hear his voice.
"Now, what are we?!" He said their mantra, trying to cheer them up and remove any sluggishness.
"South Wolves!" The boys responded.
"And what do we do?!" The coach continued
"We win!"
"Good. Now go out there and win!" The coach yelled, finally breaking the hurdle.
The boys divided themselves into group of two. Playing against each other.
"Cole, if I were you, I would leave Alex's team now that you still can!" Nathan yelled from the benches.
"He has never won a thing in his life and he is sure to lose this one as well!" He concluded, laughing with his guys.
The game started in full force with Alex passing the ball to his team players, trying to score.
"Oh come on now, Alex, don't tell me you are trying to score?" Levi, one of Nathan's pals added.
"You can't even score a girl and you think you can score at basketball?! How pathetic can you really be."
Their words reminded Alex of how Susan was. Left him, causing his hands to be weakened and the ball dropped from them.
"Oh finally, he is starting to show us his true nature." Levi added.
"It's not his true nature. Alex has always been a loser. Right now, he is just showing us more of how badly he sucks."
Dustin jogged to Alex's side.
"Yo man!" He called out and Alex immediately looked up at him
"Snap out of it. Don't let them get to you or else, we are going to lose this game."
The coach immediately blew his whistle, indicating another round and Dustin jogged back to his corner.
"Did your little friend come to give you a pep talk?"
"I wouldn't listen to him if I were you. He shoots as he scores, woefully," Levi sneered.
"Can you blame him? Birds of the same feathers they say do flock together," Nathan said, adding salt to injury.
Alex shook his head, trying to not allow their words get to him but the more he tried, the more he failed.
Without thinking, he passed the ball to the wrong team.
Nathan and his guys did not let that pass without a snide comment.
"That was a good one, Alex. Not only are you a loser, you are also delusional. Who passes the ball to the wrong team," they said and all bursted out in laughter.
This continued for two more hours and finally the coach blew the whistle, signaling the end of the game.
The boys rushed to join in the hurdle. Alex looked dejected, he did not need anyone to tell him that he had performed poorly but somehow he knew that his coach would.
"Okay guys. That was terrible training. And Albert, what the hell? I know that Nathan and his guys kept talking but you are supposed to know how to maintain a sane mind against all that. Listen here, I don't want that to ever repeat itself again. So don't let it, okay?"
"Yes sir."
"Good. You boys remember that we are training. Don't let this bring you down. Work on yourself and when next we are training, I do not want to see that nonsense. Now get out of my sight!" He said and the boys jogged into their locker room.
Immediately they got there, Dustin lifted his duffle bag and threw it to a wall.
"I swear, if I get my hands on those boys I will teach them a lesson they won't forget in haste."
"Let it go," Alex said, ignoring his tantrums.
"How can you possibly tell me to let it go? Those boys were doing that on purpose!" He yelled.
"I know and I am saying you should let it go," Alex said and walked away.
Dustin sighed. He couldn't believe that his friend was just going to let it go without a fight.
Soon, he finished dressing and went outside to meet him talking to Natalie.
"So about that party? I never got a response," she spoke and her voice echoed.
"Umm," Alex stammered
"Wow, Alex. That was a really good game. Too bad you failed woefully. We already knew you would, but it is so sad that you had to show everyone that."
"Nathan cut it out," Natalie warned.
"Aren't you ashamed of yourself? You are allowing a girl to fight for you."
"Argh!" Dustin groaned from behind him but Alex was fast enough to restrain him before he did anything drastic.
"Okay, how about you just come to the dinner we will be having tonight? I never see you at any of those," Natalie said.
"Well that's because his broke ass can't actually afford to even be at an event like that," Nathan said, laughing.
"What? That's madness. Okay, I will foot everyone's bill this time. So, Alex, would you come now?" She said, smiling at him.
"Wow. He really is a coward. He is really going to allow a woman foot his bill," Levi said loudly.
"No he won't. Because I will foot the bill for him,"
Damien added. Tired of the insults his friend was getting.
Immediately, Nathan laughed.
"Here's an idea Alex. Why don't you foot the bill for everyone for once? I mean come on, you are always enjoying the fruits of other people's hard work. For once, don't be a coward. Be a real man and show us that you can take care of people," Nathan taunted.
"Okay, fine," Alex responded sharply. Earning a lot of gasps from the people that gathered.
"What?" They asked.
"Are you serious?"
"Yes. I will foot the bill for everyone. Where do you guys want to eat?" Alex said with a smile on his face and confidence in his aura.
"Are you really asking me to choose where I want to eat?" Nathan asked, unsure of why Alex was suddenly so confident. "Yes of course. Go ahead, choose wherever you want to."Alex, for the first time understood how powerful money was. With the possession of his black card and a five million dollars sitting in his bank account, he felt like he was on top of the world and nothing could bring him down. Nathan smiled deviously and finally said, "there is this great new restaurant that just opened up. The Corsair. Don't bother yourself with trying to pronounce it. I know that people in your class cannot speak sophisticated languages," Nathan taunted. "Oh is that so? Well, it sounds like The Corsair," Alex pronounced it perfectly, shocking Nathan to his bones. "sounds like a perfect place. So let's go then." Nathan stood back. He still did not understand why Alex was suddenly very confident but he knew that he would go to great lengths to embarrass him in the hotel."Okay let's go then "
Nathan looked at bill in front of him and started shivering. He knew that he did not have that amount to foot it but he could not back down and be embarrassed by Alex. "Fine. Let's order the golden package," he finally said, gulping hard. "Perfect," Alex said and returned the menu back to the waiter The meal arrived ten minutes later and immediately it arrived, everyone dugged in. The meal was so delicious and satisfying that no one paid much attention to Nathan and hence did not notice his distress while eating. He was the only one that did not enjoy the meal that was being served in front of him. He loosened his belt and gasped for air as he thought of how he would finally get out of the mess he had put himself in. His new found girlfriend, Susan noticed his countenance and looked at him sternly. "What the hell is wrong with you?" She whispered. "I may not be able to pay for this meal," he whispered back to her. Immediately, Susan looked at him and snorted. "Well, find ou
Alex walked into the shopping mall that looked elegant and sophisticated. He had two reasons for why he walked into the fancy and elegant shopping mall. One was to get a suit that would make him stand out at Natalie's birthday party and also upgrade his wardrobe at the same time and the second was to upgrade from the little, old and wretched phone he used to a more slicker and better brand. As soon as he got into the building, his eyes collided with some very beautiful suits that he knew would bring out his best features. Smiling, he walked towards the rack and started going through them. The material felt soft and slick.Alex could not help the smile that came across his face. At the counter end, two assistants stood staring at him. Their faces had a puzzled look on it. "Wait, are my eyes playing tricks on me?" One of them asked. "I don't believe it is." The other responded, cleaning her eyes. "Isn't that the guy that delivers things to us?" "Yes he is.""What is he doing goin
Alex walked into his apartment, along with him were porters who diligently carried the clothes he had purchased. The commotion that occured made his neighbour to come out of her apartment to observe what was happening. Immediately, she was seen by Alex who smiled softly and approached her. "Hey there neighbor," he greeted the woman that had helped him sort out his rent when he did not have any money. "Hello, good afternoon. What's going on here?" She asked immediately. "Oh, they are just moving in some clothes. I hope it did not disturb you?" Alex was beginning to think that she was the kind of girl that never wanted to be disturbed in any way. "No. But forgive me for asking? What's with the clothes? Are you starting an online business or something?" She asked. Alex chuckled. "ah, no I am not. I actually just wanted to upgrade my wardrobe. I needed new set of clothes." "Wow, you must have won a lottery to be able to afford such clothes," she joked. "Ah," Alex laughed. "That ac
Alex saw the low impressions she suddenly had on her account because of the bad guy that left a very bad comment on it. He knew he had to help, suddenly he sent in his own gift. It was an aircraft carrier, valued at 50 thousand dollars. Immediately more listeners logged back into Ivy's live show. Did that just happen?Did that man just gift her an aircraft carrier? You are worried about the aircraft carrier? Don't you know that he just gifted her 50 thousand dollars?Where do you get viewers like this? The highest I have ever gotten is a lousy $10 gift card. The comments just came coming in and Ivy could not contain her self anymore. Her heart busted out in tears as it was overwhelmed with joy. She looked at the screen and could not believe that the same user that told her how much he loved her singing also sent 50 thousand dollars to her. "Thank you," she said sincerely. "Thank you so much."Alex observed what had happened and couldn't help but feel happy. Ivy had helped him w
Alex walked slowly into Ivy's room and he took his time to soak in the interior decoration of the room. It had a feminine feel with a touch of royalty. He smiled to himself. Ivy was the type that would really enjoy the good life. His eyes flashed to the table and he immediately noticed the array of dishes that lay there. He turned immediately to look at Ivy. "Oh, I set out a dish. I hope you haven't eaten? I am actually very excited and I would want us to celebrate!" She explained."Of course. But what exactly are we celebrating?" "Please sit," Ivy said as she rounded her center table to sit down. "Now," she begun when Alex was well seated. "The most crazy thing just happened to me," she started. Alex watched with a soft smile on his face as Ivy told him all about the kind man who gifted her a million dollars on her live video. He could tell from her voice that she was more than excited. "He is really very nice," Ivy said while stuffing her face with steak. "And I haven't seen
Susan opened her eyes to sloppy. The first thing she noticed as she tried to move her hands to touch her face was the rope that held her hands together. "What the?" Her voice came out as a whisper as her eyes suddenly opened fully and she saw where she was. Immediately she noticed that she was tied up, she let out a scream waking up her two friends. "What?! Argh!" Jasmine and Caroline screamed when they saw the two men who sat before them, one holding a baton and one holding a knife with a gun laying on his legs. "Where are we?" Caroline asked with a small voice as she looked around her environment. Her hands, feet and body was tied to a stool and the only part of her body that could move were her eyes and her head, giving her enough room to feast her eyes. There were planks of wood scattered around the floor, the entire environment wrecked of alcohol and cheap perfume, bricks were lying around the room and the abandoned place they seem to be in had lots of broken bottles everywh
The gangster sighed heavily. "Okay, the fuck is taking so long with that call?" He asked loudly. "He said he will do it!" Caroline said happily. "Really?! Give me the phone then," the leader said and yanked it from her hand. "Hello," "Yes, hello. How much do you need to release the girls," Alex asked. "$100,000." "Fine. Send your address to me. I will bring the cash." "No, sir," the man chuckled. "I am not sending any address to you. I will send you my details, you will make payments and then I will tell you where you can pick the girls up." "You must think that I'm stupid. What's the guarantee that if I do make payments you will actually allow those girls to leave? Either you send me your address or you can say goodbye to the money." The man weighed the situation. He looked at the girls, he would obviously have a good time with them but he wasn't the type that loved sharing and if he was to do anything with them, he would have to share them with his guys. And on the other
