Charles Ban had watched his sister and his niece argue about the person that his niece was speaking to on phone.

He was confused, obviously, but he didn't say anything and listened to them closely as they argued. The least he could do for himself was to try and figure out what the issue was, and from what he was able to piece together, this person was the cause of Lucy's accident.
