CHAPTER NINE

He walked to the front where his wife stood. Everyone was still glaring at him.

“Eliza, I told you I will find a way. You don’t have to divorce me to get your company on track,” he said for only her to hear.

“Trevor, I don’t have time for this. What do you want? You know what, just leave. We will talk about this behavior at home. And get ready for all of them,” she spoke.

“Listen to me, Eliza. I know you didn’t want to sign those divorce papers and I’m not going to sign them. Just give me a chance to say what I have. But those shares will be sold...”

“What the hell is he doing here? I thought this is only for family and interested members. What does he think he is doing here? Maria?” A man spoke, looking at Trevor’s mother-in-law.

He was Jackson’s father. He looked exactly like his son. very grumpy. With short gray hair. And he wore an expensive suit that seemed to choke him.

“I’m so sorry for this, sir. He was just leaving,” Eliza spoke and took Trevor by the hand. “You need to leave before you ruin the only short we have,” she spoke.

But he got out of her grip. “I’m not going, anyway. I’m also part of this family, whether or not you like it. And have none of you ever heard of don’t judge a book by its cover?” He looked at all of them.

Grandmother clapped as she laughed lightly. “Good speech. Did you seriously think you can come here and start telling us that nonsense? You need to leave this place now. And go pack your things and leave that house. I don’t want to see your face there ever again,” she spat.

“Grandmother, I have a lot of respect for you because of your husband. He was a good man. And I think it was good he died and never had to see what his family turned into.”

There was silent for a while, then Eliza’s brothers together with Jackson went and took Trevor by force. Dragging him out of the room. He tried to fight his way out. But they were just way too strong for him.

“And stay out, you ungrateful man,” Jackson spoke.

“Maria, I have the money to buy you the shares. You don’t have to go through with this nonsense!” He shouted before they locked the door.

“What are you talking about? You have nothing, you loser,” Jackson spoke and they all bust out laughing on top of their lungs.

“Try me,” he looked at her.

She walked over and whispered something to her grandmother. Then, after a few minutes, she gestured for them to let him join them.

“Immediately we are done here. You will go and pack your bags. You have worsted too much of our time with you drama,” his mother-in-law spoke.

“Sorry about that all. Hope you can forgive him,” Eliza spoke to the two men Trevor didn’t know. “So where were we? Oh, Mr. Zuma offered to pay ten thousand dollars for the fifty percent shares,” she spoke, smiling at them, then glared at Trevor.

“Anyone offering more?” She looked at the three men.

“Fifteen thousand,” one of them spoke.

“Twenty,” Mr. Zuma spoke.

He watched as they went on with their debate. Waiting for the right time for him to strike. Be wiped off the blood at the corner of his mouth. Breathing heavily even when he knows this was going to work.

“Forty thousand going once, going twice, going—“

They all turned as Trevor cleared his throat. “Fifty thousand,” he spoke.

They all gasped. Then after a while they bust out laughing at him. I mean, how can they believe a person like him would have the money to pay for the shares? And much less that kind of money. This was nonsense. They all said.

But Eliza was just looking at him questionable. Unable to believe it. “Trevor, This is a joke.” She told him.

“Do I look like I’m joking to you? Fifty thousand going once,” he shouted as he stood up. “Fifty thousand going twice...”

“Trevor, what are you doing?” She walked to him.

“Buying you the shares you need. I told you I will fix this. Here I’m. Now you don’t have to take your mother’s offer to marry that bastard,” he told her and walked in front.

“And fifty going thrice. The shares are all mine,” he spoke, smiling from one to the other. His heart filled with joy at their facial expressions. They looked lost. Dumbstruck by what was happening. They opened their mouths once or twice, but no word came out.

“I know this might come as a shock. But those fifty percent shares now belong to my lovely wife. I bought them for her. Because she deserves to be treated that way,” he smiled at her. “You can all leave now. Show is over. You all are broke,” he smiled at the three men and they just left mumbling under their breaths.

“What did you just do, boy? I told you to throw this loser out. I wonder what my husband saw in you,” Grandmother spoke. Rage burning in her eyes.

“I know you have a lot of questions. And I will answer them all. At home. Me and my wife will start off now. You will all find us there. We can’t be talking about family matters in front of strangers,” he looked at Jackson and his father, then took Eliza’s hand.

She tried to resist, but he gripped her real hard and dragged her outside the office. That went better than he expected. He was now the new owner of fifty percent of their company. He bought them for her as he promised her. And in turn hurting their feelings. Best day of his life.

“Trevor, what are you doing? This isn’t your car? What the hell is going on here?” She asked him as he opened the door for her.

“Just get in. I will tell you when we reach home as I said,” he said and pushed her inside.

He sighed as he entered and took off. Looking at her with the widest smile ever.

Now to teach them a lesson for lying about the mansion.
