CHAPTER 3

Jack stopped, turning to face Eric, who stood beside Jordan.

“You can’t go like that when I am still dressed like this,” Eric said. “You would need to take off your shirt and use it to clean the floor. That way I will be satisfied.”

Jack’s eyes widened in shock, “what.” He said with a low tone while shaking his head in disapproval.

He glanced at Jordan, whose hands were folded below his chest; Jack wasn’t willing to do it. Eric unleashed his anger at him by grabbing his collar and yelling at him, Jack’s face was covered with Eric’s saliva.

“You had better do it or you will have yourself to blame,” he said.

The music stopped and people gathered around to witness what was happening between Eric Hilton and the low-life Jack.

Elvis tossed back, grabbed a drink from the table and poured it on Jack from his head, the drink cascaded down his body.

Jack felt a surge of frustration and anger welling up inside of him.

“That is for disobeying my order. I want you to take it off, and wipe the mess you caused. It’s not like the shirt is even worth a fortune.” He said in a mocking tone.

His statement made the students laugh at Jack, he was ashamed of what was happening before him. How would he pull his shirt before the crowd of students without being ridiculed? With the camera light flashing across his face.

He narrowed his eyes and found Clara and her friends staring at him, he shook his head in disappointment. After some minutes he pulled off his shirt, revealing his skinny body.

“Look how skinny he is, he looks like he hasn’t eaten in days.” Eric mocked Jack.

Indistinct and distinct murmuring started in the room, and some students started laughing at him. The humiliation was too much for Jack to bear, so he got to his knees using his clothes to clean the drink.

“Do it properly, like you normally do at the restaurant.” Eric blurted out with his voice dripping with sarcasm as he continued to humiliate Jack.

After some moments, the music started and everyone got back to their dancing and their previous discussion. While Jack was in the male restroom, he gazed at his phone, which had broken, and ink had filled the screen, making it impossible for him to see anything.

He hissed in frustration; he grabbed his bag and wore the previous clothes he came with; his white shirt was so damaged that he had to throw it away.

He thought about finishing his job, so he could get paid. After a few moments in the restroom, Jack came out

He noticed the atmosphere had changed; the students were by the poolside, and he could hear them screaming.

“Say yes, say yes,” they screamed simultaneously.

He tried going forward to see what was happening, and to his greatest surprise, he found his girlfriend, Clara Grant, standing next to Jesse Warren.

“Will you be my girlfriend,” he asked again with a low tone.

“Yes, I will be your girlfriend Jesse. I have always dreamt about this day.”

Jack’s expression was mixed with sadness and disbelief, as he watched Clara laughing and smiling with Jesse after she had agreed to be his girlfriend, her eyes sparkling with joy.

“Clara, I thought you loved me,” Jack said from behind.

His statement made the atmosphere silent, as all eyes turned in his direction.

“What did you just say,” Jesse asked, with his voice barely above a whisper.

“Clara is my girlfriend. She loved me and I loved her as well.” He said, his eyes fixed on her.

The students echo in shock, “Oowh.” The murmuring started from different areas.

“Clara, what the hell is this errand boy talking about? How would you agree to date such a low life, who couldn’t even afford a decent fragrance.” Jordan screamed out from where he stood with his hand folded below his chest.

The crowd gasps about the revelation of Jack’s statements.

“I never dated him, he is lying. How would I stoop so low to date and errand boy like Jack, He is trying to spoil our day.” She said, moving forward and she kissed Jesse Warren.

“How did it come to this Clara,” Jack asked with his voice filled with pain.

“Jack, you knew I felt pity for you. I did that just so he wouldn’t kill himself,” she sputtered out.

She continued, “I was passing by the restaurant where he works his part-time job, and he threatened to kill himself if I didn’t accept him to be my boyfriend. I have no choice, I wouldn’t want my conscience to judge me for the death of a man. I had to accept, and since then, he has been bugging me with calls and text messages.”

“Jack, you are a liar”

“Jack, she would never date you.”

The students began to scream at Jack angrily, and Clara walked towards Jack.

“Oh, I have always loved Jesse. He is rich and caring, not like you. I have always wanted a trip overseas, but you can’t afford such a trip. Jesse had promised to take me on a private trip overseas, maybe you should look for your fellow poor students to tell them how you feel.” She uttered scornfully at him.

She moved away from Jack and offered an evil smile. Her attention quickly returned to Jesse’s arm, and she continued kissing him while Jesse’s hand ran behind her back down to her waist, and he grabbed her buttocks.

“Shame on you, Jack.”

“You thought she would love you, Foolish Jack.”

“Jack the worthless errand boy.”

The students began cursing Jack, he felt tears welling up in his eyes, but he maintained a mild expression; he wouldn’t want to be called a weakling by the students.

He felt a pang of hurt as he realised that he was no longer the centre of her world, he felt his heart shattered.

He walked back into the house to where he kept his belongings, his heart heavy with sadness and he walked out of the apartment.
