Chapter 14

We finally took a seat next to the window when the waiter placed the menu in front of us.

"You come here often?" I asked.

"Yeah, I love coming here when I feel lonely and sad or if I want some alone time." He said as he drank from the cup of water he had ordered earlier. "So, what about you?"

"What?" I asked, clueless.

"Where do you go when you feel lonely? What cheers you up?"

I looked around pointedly, as if my answer was obvious. "I don’t have one. I just go with the flow." I smiled warmly.

"That’s weird but cool." He gave a light smile.

"You think?"

He laughed at me and tilted his head. "Actually, no, but... I guess you can come here anytime. This place has a great view, and especially at night, it’s more beautiful and colorful."

"Really?" I asked as I stared out the window.

"Yes." Chase said as he got to his feet. "Inez, I will be back in a minute." As Chase left, I looked down at my menu and read through the endless possibilities of fish and other assorted seafood.

I was taken aback when two people slid into the booth seat across from me. It took me a few seconds, but I recognized them.

"Chase’s still a hottie, Jada; you guys should get back together," Maddie said as she stared at the menu in front of her.

"You think he will take me back?" Jada asked Maddie as she chewed her gum slowly.

"If you ask for forgiveness, he will take you back. I’m sure he hasn’t gotten over you yet, or do you want Inez to have him all to herself?" I could see the way her gaze swept over me; she was sizing me up to see if I was any competition.

"Stop it, Maddie," Jada said. "There is a Corner now; I shouldn’t waste more time on Chase anyway."

Maddie scoffed. "You haven’t even talked to him yet; you salivate every time you see him pass by and are scared to talk to him. Do you want Inez to take the post of Eulogia Queen from you?"

"She can’t take that away from me. Everybody loves me anyway."

She stared at me again and then at my bag.

I didn’t know what she was staring at, so I looked at my bag and saw flashes coming out. The Book of the Supernatural has spotted things again. I looked up at her and she just wouldn’t look away from my backpack, so I placed the bag on my lap and whispered to it. ’Not now, people are watching.’

Immediately, the flashes stopped, and I sighed slowly.

"Did you see that?" Jada asked Maddie as she removed her gaze from my bag.

"See what?" I guess Maddie didn’t see it. Thank goodness.

"I saw her bag glow just now. That’s not normal."

"Everything is not normal to you, Jada; it might be touch light or things that flash." Maddie was still focused on the menu as she called the attention of the waiter.

"Touch light doesn’t bring yellow lights or red lights out."

"So what are you saying?" Maddie asked as she finally focused on Jada.

"It’s magic, Maddie."

Maddie gave a loud laugh as she covered her mouth immediately. "You know she can hear you right? And besides, magic doesn’t exist...we are in the real world, Jada Miquela."

"She talks to her bag, and that’s weird."

"I don’t see that as weird; you always talk to your dolls sometimes and you have tea parties too."

"You still have a doll? And tea parties too? How old are you? 16?" Denise asked as she passed by Jada, who then screamed in shock. "Did you see a ghost?" Denise was referring to Jada, and when she raised her eyes at me, she smiled.

"Gosh, you startled me. How long have you been there?" Jada asked.

"A while ago," Denise said, giving a warm smile as she sat next to me. "I looked for you at school and you didn’t pick up my calls. By the way, how did you even figure this place out?"

"Sorry, I’m late." Chase walked over and stood in shock.

"Oh, you were with Chase. I see." Denise winked, but I ignored her.

"Jada is here too, great." Chase said as he took his seat.

Jada stood up and walked towards him. She placed her hand on his shoulder. "Chase, do you remember the first time you talked to me?"

"Jada, nobody wants to hear that, so just shut the fuck up and sit down," Denise said, rolling her eyes.

"You liked me a lot and made sure you got my number. I was sitting right here... this same spot Inez is sitting down on. It was the best day of my life and I’m sorry for everything that happened between us. I complained a lot and wanted more from you, but I’ve changed and I promise to do anything you say if you will take me back."

"Wow, what a great speech," Denise said. "Chase likes Inez now, so all these things are not needed. He is not taking you back because he likes Inez now."

"I thought we were friends, Denise, but now you are taking the new girl’s side," Jada said, "By the way, Inez Sivan isn’t what she said she is. I will prove to you all that she is not like us."

"Seriously? That is how you want me to take you back?" Chase shook his head in disgust.

Denise didn’t mind what Jada said about me. "You call that friendship?" She said instead. "In all my years of knowing you, you always do what you want. You never listen to me. It’s always about you... all the time; you just care about your position in school and reputation."

Jada scoffed. "I know, I was wrong and I’m sorry I pushed you away, but I’ve changed. I miss you Denise, and I will prove to you all that she is different."

"Of course she is. She is not like you, Jada. That’s why I want her, not you," Chase said as he held my hand. "Let’s get out of here. I will take you home."

Jada wasn’t lying. She was serious and I guess she still suspects something is going on and she won’t stop until she finds out what it is. I’ve got to be careful around her.

"I will show the world who you are. Mark my words."

She gazed at me as I picked up my bag and walked out of the restaurant with Chase and Denise.

The car had pulled to a stop in front of my house as I opened the door and jumped out. "Thank you for bringing me home," I said as I placed my hair behind my ear. He walked towards me and hugged me. That was the first time, by the way, but he smelled like mints. The sexy type of mint and I guess I just found my mate.

"Please, don’t mind what Jada said. She threatens when she doesn’t get what she wants."

"Hmm, I... I will go in now." I stuttered as I ran to the porch. I was all shy when he released himself from the hug, and I didn’t want him to see my red cheeks. Dhampirs are romantics too.

"See you at school tomorrow." he waved as I watched him drive off and I entered the living room.
