Ch 61. Being Watched

I trek through the dense forest, clutching onto the map that was handed to me in the dingy tavern. The trees tower above me, blocking out the sun and casting shadows that seem to stretch on for miles. I thought I was prepared for this adventure, but boy was I wrong. The sweat is pouring down my face, and my backpack feels like it's about to burst at any moment.

It's hot and humid, and the ground beneath my feet is soft and spongy. A light drizzle begins to fall, making the leaves on the tree branches sway and bounce. The constant dripping makes my nose itch and forces me to wipe my forehead repeatedly.

I stop just for a moment to check there are no purple clouds. In the meantime, the drizzle stops entirely and the sky clears up, leaving the sun to shine brightly once more.

The forest remains quiet. No birds sing, no animals rustle in the underbrush, and no insects buzz. It's eerily silent, save for the occasional drip of water from a nearby leaf.
