Ch 62. A Pretty Good Team

I pass through another clearing before coming to a small creek running along beside me. The water flows swiftly, and its current seems too strong to cross. I look around for a bridge or another way across. Nothing.

I pause and re-examine the map, trying to get an idea of where I am. The map is confusing me more than ever, but if I had to guess, I'd say I was somewhere south of the New Forest. The witch's lair should be close, but there are no landmarks on the map to guide me.

As the sun starts to dip below the horizon, I realize I’m hopelessly lost. I look around, taking in the dense trees and the eerie silence that hangs over the forest. It's then that I hear a faint rustling noise behind me. I spin around, fists raised, ready to fight off whoever— or whatever— is lurking in the shadows.

But to my surprise, it's just Bree, emerging from the trees with a sly smile on her face. "Well, well, well. Look who's lost."

I roll my eyes. "Haha. Very funny, Bree."

She chuckles. "Don't worry, I
