Ch 98. Agoraphobia and Other Fears

"Ahem. You two! Stand still!"

I jump in surprise at the sudden command.

Our chasing of chickens comes to a screeching halt when Sasha and I turn to find an old woman with leathery skin and long gray hair staring at us with a terrifying frown.

She stands upon a small rise behind a clump of trees and wears a gray cloak and simple tunic. Her wrinkled hands rest comfortably atop the hilt of a dagger sheathed at her waist.

The old woman's frown deepens as she points a crooked finger at us. "What do you think you're doing, chasing my chickens like that? Have you no respect for other people's property?"

Sasha steps forward, her tone conciliatory. "We're sorry, ma'am. We were just having a little fun. We'll leave your chickens alone now."

The old woman's eyes narrow suspiciously. "You better, or else I'll turn you into toads!"

With a bead of sweat trickling down my temple, I take a shaky gulp. However, Sasha maintains an unwavering poker face, her eyes locked on to the threatening lady.
