Chapter 4: New Assistent

From a distance, Hermes was still glued to Charun's steps that were getting further and further away from him. After seeing Charun was gone, he went back to taking care of the body in front of him.

The body is the body of a man suffering from heart disease. The man was lying on a seat right next to the banyan tree.

Unexpectedly, the man's illness relapsed and he could not be helped who eventually died.

That's where thanatos and Hermes carry out their respective duties.

The next day, Charun looks for Hermes to hear his explanation. He wanted to know why Hermes did this and what he meant. Even though he knew that the man yesterday was dying along with the winged figure, but he wanted to hear Hermes' full explanation regarding this matter.

"Where's Mr Hermes?" said Charun while looking for the whereabouts of the teacher.

After walking down the halls of the classroom, he finally found Hermes walking into his room.Without thinking, Curun walked quickly to catch up with Hermes.

"That's Mr Hermes. I have to catch up soon," said Charun.

Now the distance between Charun and Hermes was getting closer. Charun hastened his pace even more.

"Mr. Hermes wait sir," said Charun who was still panting.

Hermes was very surprised by the presence of Charun who was suddenly behind him.

“Charun, what are you doing here?” Hermes asked.

"I want to speak, sir. There is something I need to ask," said Charun.

Hermes had already guessed that Charun knew of his whereabouts yesterday. Hermes thought that maybe he already knew all about Hermes' current identity.

"Yes Chara. What do you want to ask? About what?"

Hermes asked.

"I want to ask sir. Yesterday I saw pah Hermes beside the banyan tree…” said Charun, stopping his speech.

"with a figure who..." he continued.

Charun stops his sentence. He was very careful with his words at this time.

“What kind of figure is Charun?” Hermes asked clarifying Charun's question.

"The winged figure, sir. Is Mr. Hermes doing the killing with him?" he asked.

"Have you seen everything Charun?" Hermes turned to ask.

"Yes sir, I saw it. Can you explain about yourself? Can you take a life?" said Charun.

"Aren't you going to tell anyone Charun?" Hermes said.

"What do you mean sir?" said Hermes.

Hermes was contemplating what he should do so that Charun wouldn't tell anyone about his identity to anyone else. Even though he was sure that Charun was a good person, Hermes was only afraid if Charun did that because humans too would make mistakes.

"I'll explain everything but you have to promise not to tell anyone Charun," Hermes said.

"Okay sir, I also want you to grant my request," said Charun pleading.

"Request? Do you have a request for me? What's that?" Hermes asked.

"I want to be your assistant sir," replied Charun.

Hermes was very surprised to hear Charun's request. He is currently thinking well about the decision he will make.

He didn't want to go wrong in taking a path that would jeopardize his identity to everyone.

"Assistant?" Hermes asked.

"Yes, I want to be your assistant sir. Please accept me,” said Charun.

In order to secure his identity, Hermes accepts Charun as his assistant. In addition, Charun is his favorite student so Hermes gladly accepts Charun as his assistant.

"Yes, I accept you to be my assistant. But you have to promise to keep your mouth shut and not tell anyone about my identity, promise?” said Hermes.

"Promise sir. You can trust me,” replied Charun.

"But, you also have to tell me about your true identity, sir," he continued.

"Yes, I'll tell you," Hermes said.

There were only the two of them in this hallway.

At this time, Hermes was still carefully structuring his sentences.

"Okay I'll explain everything," Hermes said.

Charun was excited to hear Hermes' words.

“I am a human who devotes myself to the earth. My job is to deliver the spirits of dead humans to the underworld…” Hermes said, cut off.

"Underworld? What does it mean?" Charun asked, cutting Hermes off.

"Yes, the underworld. The underworld is a world for the spirits of humans who have died. I brought all the spirits to the underworld, including the spirits that wandered," Hermes explained.

Charun was still focused on Hermes' explanation. He tried to keep every word Hermes said well. He was very interested in Hermes' current discussion.

"Then the winged figure is your friend?" he asked.

"Yeah, he's my friend, he's the one who took human life. A human who is about to meet his end will meet him.”

Hermes told Charun about his identity.

"Aren't you afraid of me?" Hermes asked.

"No sir. If I was afraid of you, I wouldn't ask to be your assistant sir." Charun answered firmly.

Hermes was sure that Charun could be trusted. He was sure that Curun would be a good assistant for him.

“I also want to tell you something Charun. Do you want to hear it?” Hermes asked.

"Yes sir, what is it? What are you going to tell me?”

After thinking about a few things, Hermes finally told Charun that at that time Charun's life was not long.

"Actually you've been in that position," Hermes said.

"What position do you mean?" Charun asked confused.

Charun was very confused by what Hermes was saying at the moment. He didn't know the word "position" Hermes meant.

"You were in that position Charun, when you were about to lose your life," Hermes replied.

"I will die?" Charun said in shock.

Charun thinks he will die. With a shocked expression on her face and slightly trembling body, she started to distance herself from Hermes and slightly moved away from him.

"Yeah, but that was then. But your position is safe," Hermes replied briefly.

"How come?" said Charun curiously.

Hermes didn't answer any of Charun's words and questions, but only flashed a smile at him.

“Mr Hermes, what will happen to me first?” Charun asked curiously.

"You can, you don't need to know," Hermes said curtly.

Right now Hermes' attitude was very different from usual. If he usually seems humorous and cheerful, this time he looks serious and looks very wise.

Hearing Hermes who seemed to want to end the topic, Charun immediately fell silent and didn't want to ask anything which he feared would anger Hermes.

"Okay sir," said Charun gently.

Seeing that Charun was a little scared of him, Hermes again smoothed his voice. He didn't want his students to feel uncomfortable or afraid of him.

"You're not afraid of me are you?" Hermes asked for sure.

"No sir, I'm just keeping my words so as not to make you angry, sir," said Charun honestly.
