Something hidden

Ken waited for about five minutes for Cassie to call him back but his phone didn't ring. Could she be on her way to his apartment? He wondered and settled by the edge of the bed.

An hour passed and there was no sign of Cassie and she didn't call back. He decided to call her.

"Hi, bro!" She mumbled in a tone that was different from the one she had used earlier.

Her voice sounded firm and not even a ripple could be detected which suggested she had been crying over the phone earlier when she called.

"I'm waiting for you to show up." Ken stammered.

"How about we meet up some other day? I'm busy right now and it's kind of late," replied Cassie.

Ken was stunned. Didn't she call him an hour ago crying profusely, seeking his company? What had suddenly gone wrong? He couldn't help but wonder.

"Didn't you want us to talk? I thought there was a problem and..." Ken was still speaking when she interrupted.
