1 The Divorce Proposal

"What's this?" Leo asked as he looked at the paper on the table that had been passed to him by his wife's secretary.

The sound of the obnoxious newscaster on the TV made it even worse and he felt like breaking the TV into pieces. Everything just seemed to annoy him after he had read the contents of that document.

"The divorce agreement that my boss ordered me to give to you." The secretary replied with a stern, no-nonsense tone. It was obvious that he was there for business, there was no time to mince words or to beat around the bush.

"Divorce agreement?" Leo muttered to himself in shock and disbelief. "Why? Where did this come from all of a sudden?"

Leo's question elicited a cynical chuckle from the secretary and he leveled a condescending gaze on him. "Does she need a reason? A loser like you doesn't deserve a woman like my boss as your wife. You're too miserable to have someone like her."

Leo felt a sharp pain in his chest as his wife's secretary made those derisive statements. It seemed that they had all forgotten how he sacrificed his own enterprise just to make sure that his wife and her family became successful and respectable members of the business industry.

Leo was about to vent the pain in his heart and transfer his aggression to the man sitting before him when he heard his wife's name from the TV and his words hung in his throat as he paused to hear what the newscaster had to say about her.

"In the world of business and trade, Mrs Melissa Dubois, the hardworking and prestigious co-owner of Stallion Industries has clinched the award of businesswoman of the year for the third time in a row. She is the first woman to do this in history and the members of the business world, both men and women alike have confessed their deep respect and acknowledgement for her efforts. She will definitely go down in history as a legend in the history. The management team of this news channel also wishes to use this opportunity to congratulate her on her win and wish her more wins...."

The rest of the newscaster's words were lost on Leo because his wife's secretary had already begun chewing him out over his wife's achievement.

"Did you hear that?" He asked him conceitedly, "I bet she could do more than that but it won't be possible if she's with a man who's as useless as you. She needs a man who's wealthy, confident, and powerful enough to support her dreams, not someone like you who can't even earn up to $3000 in a month."

Leo gritted his teeth and frowned when he heard everything that the secretary said,

'‘Many heirs from different wealthy and noble families are already queuing up to date your wife and no one will want you in the way. You will be doing everyone a favor if you sign that divorce agreement and walk away.’' The secretary continued.

"Listen here, I don't care if the president of the Union of Nations wants to date my wife," Leo said sternly to the secretary, "I want her to come and stand before me, I want her to look into my eyes and tell me that she wants to divorce me before I'll even consider signing it."

The secretary knitted his brows in annoyance, "a small thing like this does not require her presence. In fact, if you sign it now, you'll be given a large amount of money as a settlement

The fact that the secretary was trying to use money as an incentive to make him sign the document made Leo angry and he glared at her furiously. "To hell with your money! I don't care about it. I've told you what I want, if you can't grant that then I'm going to leave here."

"Your request is unreasonable, it can't be granted." The secretary replied with a cold gaze.

"Okay then," Leo said and stood up after sliding the document back to him, "forget about this, I'm out of here."

"I know why you're doing this, Leo Dubois!" The secretary yelled loudly as Leo walked away from him. His yell attracted the attention of the people around and they all turned to look at the person making a scene.

"You're just trying to stall so that you can tempt us to double the money. Isn't that it? Well, I just want you to know that you don't really have a choice here. If you prove too stubborn and refuse to sign this, we're going to make you disappear and no one's going to remember that you ever existed. You know that we can do that right?"

‘Is that what she wanted?’ Leo couldn’t believe his wife could be so cruel.

‘Yes’, the secretary smirked. Actually, she never said anything. He was just anxious to get her approval.

Leo was boiling in anger as he walked out.

Just as he was about to walk out of the cafe, he saw someone standing at the doorway.
