By mid-afternoon, Steve Hart was back at his wife's family home. He ran from the bus stop to get there, making sweat pour down his forehead.
"Damn, I'm late," Steve muttered.
In the front yard of the luxurious house, the car that his in-laws used to use was parked, indicating that they were home now.
Steve Hart realized there was no point in regretting. If he had to accept insults, then only trying to be patient was all he could do.
Steve had just entered the house when on the living room sofa, there was already a woman in her 40s reading a magazine, a habit that had been passed down to Agatha, his wife.
Olivia Cattegirn, a beautiful woman who looked much younger than her real age. The same woman was also Steve's mother-in-law, one of the people responsible for making Steve's life so miserable.
"I only left home for a few days and guess what?" Olivia Cattegirn asked suddenly.
Steve Hart was silent, not wanting to answer because it would only make his mother-in-law even angrier.
"My useless son-in-law is starting to dare to neglect his duties, and instead chooses to have fun out there," Olivia Cattegirn continued.
"I've swept the house and mopped the floor as usual, I went out because I had something to do and it was done after my duty was over," explained Steve Hart.
"The floor is still dirty, you still dare to deny? Hey maid, come here because I have something to ask you!"
One of the maids came after Olivia called her, asking what Olivia wanted to hear from her.
"This trash, is he really doing his job?"
The maid glanced at Steve for a moment before answering, "As I recall, he did, Madam Olivia."
"Don't lie!" Olivia Cattegirn said in a high tone, refusing to believe it.
Realizing that what she had just said was not what Olivia wanted to hear, she could only stare guiltily at Steve before saying, "Not yet... Madam Olivia."
"Why didn't you say so from the start, what's the big deal? Now go and get back to work," Olivia said, ordering the maid to get out of her way.
After the maid left, Olivia's eyes fell back on Steve.
"Now, what are you going to dodge?" Olivia Cattegirn asked Steve.
Steve could only curse inwardly, Olivia's anger was clearly without reason and only wanted to corner him.
Despite feeling angry, Steve still tried to maintain his friendly expression.
Olivia Cattegirn let out an annoyed breath before saying, "Never mind, now go pick up Agatha from her campus. I won't forgive you if you dare to make my daughter wait even a second."
"Mother, isn't picking up Miss Agatha the job of her personal driver?" asked Steve Hart, since picking up Agatha was not his responsibility.
"Well, I just don't want to see you relaxing. Do you mind?" Olivia Cattegirn raised her eyebrows.
Steve Hart quickly shook his head before saying, "Absolutely not, Mom."
Steve Hart eventually made his way to one of the cars parked in the yard after receiving the keys from his mother-in-law.
One thing that made him reluctant to get this kind of assignment, was the fear of scratching the car he was driving and having to pay for it.
[The host doesn't need to worry, after all, there is already a system that can make the host so rich that he doesn't need to think about money]
"That's true, but can you help me if I drive this car off a cliff and my mother-in-law tries to kill me?" asked Steve Hart.
[Ehhh... that's out of the system's hands].
"Shut up then," said Steve Hart.
Steve Hart realized that his $100,000 was nothing compared to the Cattegirn family's wealth, so he couldn't be rash or the system would be useless.
[The system appreciates the Host's intelligence, it is quite impressive that you are not blinded by the desire for revenge and still think about the consequences of your actions]
"Hey, stop reading my mind," muttered Steve Hart as he drove towards the campus Agatha was on.
After driving for a long time, Steve finally arrived at a famous university in the town of Avebury.
Avebury University, a place where the descendants of rich families as well as the smartest people in the town were educated.
Steve Hart arrived in front of one of the university buildings around 3pm, there was still half an hour until Agatha's class ended so Steve could breathe freely.
Steve Hart got out of his car to wait for Agatha. Sure enough, thirty minutes later Agatha was seen coming out of the building with her friends.
"Wow, look who's here," said one of Agatha's friends.
Hearing these words, Steve's presence there was immediate.
"Agatha, what happened to your personal driver that they sent a house servant to pick you up?"
Steve Hart could only let out a long sigh at this, Agatha's friends didn't know who he was, they just said things like that to embarrass her.
"Stop bothering him," Agatha said to her friends.
Agatha Cattegirn walked straight up to Steve, a quizzical look on her face as to why Steve had come to pick her up.
"I know you may feel uncomfortable because of my arrival, but it was Mrs. Olivia who ordered me here to pick you up," explained Steve Hart.
Agatha nodded in understanding. However, she could not go home with Steve because she still had things to do now.
"Why? You know I'll get scolded if I don't take you home with me, right?" asked Steve Hart.
Agatha was about to answer, however, one of her male friends walked up to her first, embracing Agatha right in front of Steve for whatever reason.
"Hey, you never really thought of Agatha as your wife, did you?" the man asked.
Steve recognized the man as Eric Daran, just like Cattegirn, the Daran family was also famous for their wealth earned from various businesses in Avebury town.
"Hey, what do you want to do here? If you realize your position, then get lost and don't tell Agatha what to do," Eric Daran continued.
Agatha, who felt uncomfortable with Eric's embrace, immediately slammed the hand off her shoulder, after which she said, "I told you to stop bothering him, after all, he came because he was ordered to by my mother."
"Really? Then tell him to leave, if he still doesn't want to... then I don't mind taking care of it for you," Eric Daran said as he gave Steve a sharp look.
Steve Hart just didn't move in his position, he was also confused about what to do if it was like this.
"Come back, I'm just going to the freshman welcome party after this. Tell that to my mom, she will definitely understand," explained Agatha Cattegirn.
Not waiting for an answer from Steve Hart, Agatha immediately left there with Eric and his other friends.
Knowing this, Steve Hart immediately understood that what Agatha had just said was an order, not a request or anything like that.
"This sucks," muttered Steve Hart.
Steve Hart had felt an extraordinary surge of emotion when he saw Eric dare to embrace Agatha right in front of him, it was really clear that Eric had never considered him as Agatha's husband.
Steve Hart finally prepared to return home to deliver Agatha's message to his mother-in-law. Although his pride was hurt, Steve didn't remember that he still had some pride left in him.
[Mission triggered, Protect Agatha and show what the Host can do as her husband]
Seeing the message of the mission, Steve Hart immediately drove his car towards the direction Agatha had gone with her friends.Although Steve Hart blamed Agatha for his current situation in the Cattegirn family, Agatha was not the one who participated in treating him badly and even tried to protect him several times from the Cattegirn family's inappropriate treatment. Now Steve’s instinct knew that there are bad things Eric and his other friends want to do to Agatha, of course Steve Hart could not just let this happen, especially since Agatha is his wife. Not long after Steve Hart drove his car, he finally caught up with Agatha who apparently entered a bar not far from Avebury University. Not only them, but many other students also entered the bar. Making Agatha’s excuse of attending the welcoming of new students, proved to be true.‘What evil plans do you have for my wife, Eric?’ muttered Steve Hart.As a man, Steve Hart had assumed that Eric had feelings for Agatha, which had not c
"Just come with me, you troublemaker!" exclaimed the bar security, tugging on Steve's arm."No, get away from me!" Steve Hart tried to struggle to release the security bar's grip on his arm, but was unsuccessful due to the difference in their strength."Don’t bother yourself fighting back, rubbish! Just go and I’ll take care of Agatha," Eric Daran said with a smirk on his face.Steve's anger immediately provoked after seeing a smirk on Eric’s face, Steve began to think of ways to release the grip of the security hand so that he could beat Eric who had dared to be presumptuous. In the midst of it all, a woman's familiar voice shout out and brought everything that was happening to a sudden halt."What's going on... Steve, why are you here?" Agatha rubbed her eyes several times, as if confused by what was happening."Get your hand off my arm!" Steve shouted at the security bar, which surprised the security bar into releasing its grip.At that moment, Eric tried to explain to Agatha with
Agatha Cattegirn had just opened her eyes when the dizziness hit her head, she tried to remember what had happened to her."Are you feeling better?"A familiar voice rang out, Agatha immediately turned her head to see who was speaking.Steve Hart was sitting beside Agatha while driving the car, this made Agatha wonder even more about what had just happened to her."Why are you here? Not to mention... didn't I tell you before, that I can't go home yet because I must join the welcoming party?"Steve Hart frowned, wondering if Agatha really did not remember what had happened."I'm sorry if I'm being presumptuous, but I had to pick you up from the party because of an urgent matter," explained Steve Hart, "You're probably still feeling fuzzy from the effects of the too much alcohol you had earlier."Not to mention, Steve was also unsure if Agatha would still have faith in him if she was fully sober at the bar."Did something bad happen to make you do that?" asked Agatha Cattegirn, feeling
After Callista managed to get Steve away from the Cattegirn family mansion, she finally loosened her grip on Steve's arm.Steve Hart glanced at his surroundings, it was a street with trees on the right and left sides. There are almost no other houses, because the area is indeed an elite area where the distance between houses is quite far.Steve Hart, who already knew there was something bad Callista wanted to do to him, immediately put his guard up because the unexpected could happen at any time.Sure enough, not long from behind one of the trees appeared a man who was none other than Eric Daran."Is he going to help you to make me regret it?" asked Steve Hart to Callista.Callista just didn't respond, in addition, Eric continued to walk closer before swinging his fist at Steve.Steve Hart, who was alert from the start, was able to avoid the punch quite easily, this made Eric even more dark eyes by continuing to try to land his punches on Steve. In the middle of each of Eric's punches
In the midst of the argument between Callista and Eric, Steve Hart tried to get up with his remaining strength. What Steve Hart did, immediately caught Callista's attention. The woman immediately told this to Eric, who was previously still busy explaining how his money could make it easier for them to escape the law."In your thought, having money means you can do everything, right?" asked Steve Hart to Eric.Eric Daran was taken aback, but the shock was soon replaced by a sardonic smile."Exactly, that's why scum like you shouldn't look for trouble with me."Steve Hart smiled sarcastically at that, much to the astonishment of both Callista and Eric."Hey, have you lost your sanity?" asked Callista Cattegirn.“So what? After all, my sanity has been lost for a long time, precisely after I stepped into your rotten Cattegirn family," replied Steve Hart, himself not sure what underlies his courage to say it all.Callista's face immediately turned ugly, "Eric, do something. Finish him or m
Steve Hart hurriedly made his way back to the Cattegirn family residence, concerned that Callista might divulge something unsettling to Agatha about what had just happened.Upon Steve's arrival at home, he found Agatha in the living room, enjoying her breakfast."What happened to you?" Agatha inquired, eyeing Steve's bruised face."Oh, just a tumble during my morning run," Steve explained.Agatha nodded, leaving Steve wondering if she had heard anything about the recent events from Callista."What's up?" Agatha asked, sensing something odd about Steve's demeanor."Oh, it's nothing... have you seen Callista by any chance?""Callista? Was she here? Where? I didn't see her," Agatha replied, glancing around the house.Steve sighed in relief, realizing that Callista had likely left immediately after picking up her forgotten car."Hufthhh... seems like maintaining one's dignity pays off," Steve muttered.Steve had a sense of why Callista might have withheld the recent happenings – not wanti
The store manager had discussed Agatha's request with his staff, and in the end, they could only approach Agatha with somewhat displeased expressions on their faces.Agatha immediately sensed what the manager wanted to convey and felt deeply disappointed."Miss Agatha, although this seems unlikely... I can try to arrange it if you truly want to have this diamond necklace," the manager suddenly said."Can you? If it's possible, please make it happen," Agatha replied.A meaningful smile appeared on the manager's face, triggering suspicion in Steve Hart's mind."What about a dinner with me? I can provide you with this diamond necklace with the money you have now. But you'll need to pay the rest soon because my boss will be upset if he finds out about this," the store manager explained with a broad smile.Steve Hart immediately clenched his fists, confirming the manager's interest in Agatha.Steve Hart wanted to persuade Agatha to reject the store manager's proposal, although it seemed un
"Sir, stop fooling around and leave." The store manager seemed annoyed with Steve Hart's nonsense, thinking Steve was doing all this just to disturb him from getting closer to Agatha.Feeling the situation becoming more complicated, Agatha, who had been silent until then, finally made a decision."Steve, forget about the necklace; let's just leave," Agatha said, intending to pull Steve's arm to leave the place."No, you really want the necklace, right? If it is so, just wait for me a moment. I'll pay it for you." Steve Hart released Agatha's hand from his arm's grip.Agatha was genuinely curious about what made Steve seem different, as if he could truly follow through on what he said."Can you trust me... just this once?" asked Steve to Agatha.Steve's words carried a lot of seriousness, melting Agatha's resolve and somehow letting Steve proceed with what he wanted to do.Feeling that he had gained Agatha's approval, Steve was determined to get it done faster.Steve attempted again to
