CHAPTER 3

"Nothing doctor, you have to see reasons with me, you must ensure that this child does not survive. My family's reputation is at stake." Said Mrs Davidson

"Mrs. Davidson, I cannot compromise the principles of my profession. I am here to save lives, not end them." The doctor shook his head.

"Doctor, consider the consequences. A generous sum awaits you if you help us avoid this scandal. End the life of the church rats offspring and I would reward you handsomely. I am sick and tired of looking at Romeo Stewart as my son in law." Mrs Davidson whispered.

"Mrs. Davidson, I cannot allow financial gain to dictate my actions. It's against everything I stand for." The doctor hesitated.

"Doctor, think about your future. With the right amount, you can secure a comfortable life for yourself." Mrs Davidson leaned in, lowering her voice. "I could make you lose your license if you decline my request."

"But you can't!"

"Oh yes I can."

"Mrs. Davidson, this is highly irregular. I cannot..." The doctors facial expression and body movements hinted at internal conflict.

"Doctor, think about it carefully. The Davidson family can make things very comfortable for you. A little cooperation goes a long way." Mrs Davidson was persuasive.

"I... I can't believe I'm considering this, but if the sum is substantial enough..." The doctor said reluctantly.

"You won't be disappointed, Doctor. Our secret will remain just that, and your pockets will be well-lined." Said Mrs Davidson smirking.

In the shadows of ethical compromise, the doctor succumbed to the pressure, setting a dark course in motion.

Unbeknownst to Linda and Romeo, a sinister plot unfolded behind the scenes, threatening the very existence of the newborn who had just taken her first breath in the world.

After two hours, he woke up and after scrubbing his eyes, the first thing in his mind was to find the doctor he had met earlier so he could ask of the well-being of his wife but he was shocked when he saw the same doctor conversing with Mrs Davidson, Jane Davidson her daughter, Flanagan Davidson her son and Andrew.

"What the hell was happening? Did they come to help? It looks like they did." He thought.

Suddenly Romeo breath a sigh of relief, he had some faith that the Davidson's would intervene and clear the bills he owed, there was no way they were going to leave their own to suffer alone with her husband.

Romeo jumped from his seat and moved to were they were standing with the aim of inquiring about his wife's well-being, what had prompted the Davidsons to come to the hospital and thank them for their help if necessary.

"Hello doctor. Please what about my wife, did everything go smoothly?"

"Your wife is okay." The doctor sounded cold.

"What about the baby?"

"All thanks to the Davidson's, you have been relieved of your debts to our hospital." The doctor pointed at the direction of the Davidson's.

"What does that mean, I am asking about my baby and…"

"Everything went well."

"Are you su…" Before Romeo could finish his sentence, the doctor nodded at Mrs Davidson and walked away, disappearing amongst the crowd in the ever busy hospital.

Mrs. Davidson's conflicted emotions churned within her as she walked towards Linda's ward.

Despite harboring a deep dislike for her son-in-law, Romeo, she couldn't bear the thought of her daughter, Phoebe, suffering or losing her life due to financial constraints.

Beneath the surface of her disapproval, a maternal instinct surged—a primal need to protect her own.

In her mind, the disdain for Romeo collided with a sense of responsibility and compassion.

While her expressions remained guarded, internally, she grappled with the complexity of a mother torn between personal sentiments and the inherent desire to safeguard her family.

Romeo sighed and shrugged before turning to the direction of Andrew and the Davidson's. "Thank you Mrs Davidson I…"

"Meet us in Linda's ward." Said Mrs Davidson as she and her company walked away from Romeo.

Romeo's face went blue with embarrassment after the slight snub however he turned around and walked behind them.

They were now at the entrance of the ward. Mrs Davidson opened it and they entered however when Romeo was about to enter inside the ward, they shut the door against him.

Frowning he said. "What is the meaning of this, are you guys crazy, let me see my wife and my child, come on open the door."

No one answered him. Out of anger he started banging on the door, still nothing changed.

Romeo however stopped when he saw some staffs looking at his direction. He didn't want to draw any attention, after all they were not going to stay in that ward forever.

"Linda, are you okay?" He asked from the window which though very full but transparent.

While Romeo was trying to grapple with what transpired inside the ward, Jane Davidson walked to the window he was standing at and she shut the blinds.

Romeo grew agitated. Out of anger, he moved to the door and started kicking it. "Open this door you bastards or I am going to tear it down myself!" He bellowed.

This drew the attention of everyone in the hospital and a few nurses walked up to him.

They thought he was insane given his extremely modest clothing, the stain of blood on his shirt, his swollen right eye and his overgrown beards.

"Hello sir, you are causing some nuisance in this place, I think you need to go back to your ward, here let me help you." The seemingly nice nurse offered her hand to Romeo.

"Leave me alone madam, I am pissed off."

"What is the matter?" The aged nurse presumably in her sixties asked.

"I am not a lunatic, it's just that there are some crazy people inside this ward that do not want me to see my wife and child." He said calmly.

The nurses now convinced that he was not mad asked him what happened.

Before he could reply, the door swung open and Andrew stuck his head out of the door.

"Hello nurses." Said Andrew politely.

"Oh there you are, this man here is complaining that he isn't allowed to see his wife and child is he correct?" Asked the nurse.

"We…"

Before Andrew completed his sentence, Romeo shoved him aside and opened the door so he could see his wife and his new born baby.

"What the fuck, are you nuts?" Andrew yelled as hit the wall, and hit his head.

Romeo didn't mind him.

Upon entering the ward, Romeo was taken aback for a moment.

"Were is my child?" He asked.
