~You’re not considering this, are you?~Dorian stared at the rickety old cab and found himself fixated by the color and the paint on it. It wasn’t good at all.The paint was peeling off. Like actually peeling off the same way a damp wall would bloat up and then the paint would slowly begin to fall. That was the same thing happening to this car. The morning air seemed to lend Dorian a clear mind and the warm sun on his neck made him optimistic.“How much do you wanna sell it for?”The older man standing beside him scoffed “Sell it? who said I was going to sell it?’Dorian stared at the half-busted car and grimaced. “What are you planning to do with it then? Not sell it? Is this thing safe to go on the road?”“Do you want the job or not, kid?”There was some bite to the man’s voice now and Dorian could tell he was getting annoyed, but did he really have a reason to be annoyed? This car looked like something that would fall apart in a moment and for him to take it on the road as a cab….
The cab man did touch up the car a little.“It’s all I could do, okay? I’m not exactly heavy on cash or funds at the moment, and repairs cost a lot..”Dorian directed mildly sleepy and still bleary eyes to the man and he nodded.“It’s the best you could do, I understand.”The other man’s expression seemed to relax a bit after that and he and Dorian conversed freely from there on. He asked. “Are you sure you’ll be able to get 250 dollars daily? That could be difficult, don’t you think?”Dorian couldn’t help the light sneer that lined his lips as he looked away from his new employer. Why was everyone suddenly developing a conscience? First, it was the system and now it was this man.Doerian shrugged and stuck the key into the keyhole of the driver’s door.“I’ll be fine. 250$ a day shouldn’t be a problem.”The system chortled and Dorian found himself frowning lightly as he opened the door and got in. The system’s cheeky voice rang out in his head.~Carry on. I’m not interfering.~Dorian
“Can I tell her to get down?”The system remained silent and Dorian sighed as he kept on driving. What kind of luck did he have? His first customer just had to be his girlfriend, right?Amelia was sneering and looking at the interior of the car like she would rather be anywhere else than here. She wasn’t dressed up much, but she looked pretty all the same.Dorian found his repressed emotions coming to the forefront again and he didn’t want them to.He was doing this to forget her. To show himself that she never mattered to him and that her betrayal did not hurt him nor did it affect him in any way.But how was he supposed to do that when the girl who betrayed him was sitting behind him and she was muttering all sorts of shit!!“Is this cab even yours? You barely had money to feed me when we were together. I hope you didn’t steal this deadbeat crap of an automobile. Horace would never drive something like this.”At the mention of the name Horace, Dorian felt his blood begin to boil.“D
Dorian groaned and threw his pillow at the door.“Urgh what the hell! Why’s everyone making so much noise!”He opened his eyes and directed a glare at the door. What the hell? The noise wasn’t even coming from the door but he just wanted to throw something at something. The infernal squealing was coming from his window and the sound of excited chatter was almost too much for him to bear.Dorian got up from his bed and stomped to the door. He flung it open, yanked a shirt off the overhead hangers he kept, and stomped down the dirty hall and rickety stairs to see what had gotten all his neighbors into a stir. They barely gathered, and never so much that they’d make a hell of a noise that would wake him up this early in the morning.~Dorian?~Dorian grumbled a reply to the system ~Not now.~ and continued with his annoyed stomping. The moment he burst out of the main entrance the sun hit him full on, and it didn’t hit just him, it hit the gleaming new car everyone was currently crooning
“Wha…. how… how could that wretch own a car like that!” Dorian simply leaned on the door of his car and watched his landlord throw his tantrum. He didn’t know how the car was his, but he’d be damned if he stopped his landlord from making a fool of himself. The man caught sight of Dorian’s light sneering and he pointed accusingly, in the most dramatic manner. “Ah hah! I knew it. You’ve been selling your body haven’t you!” Everyone gasped and directed looks of scorn at Dorian but a firm female voice rang out immediately at that moment. “Enough!” All the people present darted their eyes toward the source of the voice and seeing it was Mae, the looks on their faces quickly turned neutral. Who wouldn’t wipe off the displeased look on their faces when Mae was glaring at them? Dorian watched as the female walked over to him. There was something strange about Mae because here she was, pretty as sin and in a sheer nightgown and yet unbothered and able to command the attention and respect
“We’re here, Miss.”Dorian turned to look at his dazed and amazed passenger. He felt some pride flowing through him at the look on her face, because sincerely, who wouldn’t?He was riding a Maybach!“Ca.., can I get your number so you can become my Uber driver?”Dorian felt himself perking up at the sound of that. He did this yesterday, right? This was a sign that he was a good driver, yet Dorian felt doubt creep into his heart the more he thought of it. He took a good look at his passenger and inspected the smile on her face. She was young, about his age, but people always said he had an old soul, so maybe that was why he was able to spot this female wasn’t taking his number because the ride was smooth? No, it was something more than that. Dorian watched as she squirmed under his watch and darted her eyes away each time they met his. If she really wanted his number just because of the ride, then she wouldn’t be feeling so nervous. That or he was just paranoid now that he had a Mayb
Dorian groaned under his breath at his latest passenger. The male’s obnoxious voice droned on continually as he continued rambling to his fans on his livestream.“And guys, to make it in life, you’ve gotta make sacrifices. I mean look at me, I'm just thirty four. I have a million dollar house, I drive a million dollar car, I've taken lots of risks in my life.”Dorian cleared his throat lightly for lack of a better thing to do. This guy was obviously lying.“I’m being driven in a Maybach as we speak now, guys. Most of you will never experience this in your life. You don’t take risks.”Dorian felt the need to explode at this meathead overcome him. If any of his fans had any sense they’d be asking him what risks exactly he had taken. What were the things he did to get his million-dollar house and his million-dollar car, that’s if they even existed?Dorian pulled into the driveway and directed a look at his latest troublemaker “We’ve arrived at your destination sir.”The guy totally ignor
“H…h..hey” hiccup “how much did you get this car boy?” Dorian gritted his teeth and tried not to let his frustration get the best of him. This was just one of those things he’d have to endure right? As a self-employed driver, there would always be the chance that he’d get some unsavory clients. He had dealt with his fair share of them today, but none of them made him woozy with the stench of their breath and the alcohol oozing off them. Did this man bathe in liquor? A loud belch rang through the car and Dorian felt like someone had sent an electric shock through his spine. His passenger chuckled and patted his slightly protruding belly lightly, “Sorry for that…. Uh, my stomach doesn’t know when to stop speaking.” The system chuckled in Dorian’s head and Dorian gave it a mental glare. The system laughed even more and gave a snide comment “At least this guy’s funny.” Dorian cleared his throat and glanced at his passenger, “No problem. Your stop is right around the corner.” A surpr
