CHAPTER 1

“Be fast, I need to go out. I'm running late.

Hot sweat dropped from his head and flowed abundantly down his cheeks. Jason has been washing the cars since he woke up.

Mrs. Maria Miller had given him a serious warning not to come inside the house if he had not washed three cars that were parked outside.

The Miller family is seen as an average family in Winston Salem, Mrs. Miller works at Trustworthy Finance as their manager of the HR department.

While her son Danny works as the manager of their family plantation farm.

She insulted him, but Jason never uttered a word. He has been used to constant humiliation and demeanment by the family.

He didn't want to say anything to avoid getting her angry, Mrs. Maria despised poor males. She was against Mr. Miller giving her daughter to Jason as his wife.

Jason was almost through with the washing of the car when she walked towards him. Her eyes were reddened in anger.

“I am running late for work, hurry up,” she yelled in sarcasm.

“Okay, mom,” he said calmly.

“I have told you not to call me mom, I can't be the mother of a pauper like you,” she said in anger.

He wanted to say something but held himself as he shifted the bucket to his back while shifting forward to arrange the car carpet back to its normal spot.

Mrs. Miller took the bucket that was filled with dirty water and poured it on him.

Jason was soaked from head to toe, he was brewing in anger, he clenched his fist but stayed cool. He used his hand to wipe the water from entering his eyes.

“Mom, why will you do that to him?” A feminine voice was heard from behind.

It was Jessica Miller, his wife. She rushed towards him and helped him clean his face with her handkerchief.

“He is your son-in-law and my husband, you can't keep treating him like this,” she said with anger and with concern etching on her face.

Mrs. Miller wasn't surprised to see her daughter standing against her, Jessica and Jason have been married for four years and have never consummated their marriage. Jessica is the only person in the family who always defends him, she sometimes gets tired of defending him.

“He is not my son-in-law, who would want a pauper like him as a son-in-law,” she said, giving him an evil gaze.

“Son-in-law, that I feed and stay in my house, can't you be like your sister Helen looks at her husband Watson, he manages one of the biggest boutiques in the city and your husband is living under my roof.”

“If he wants to be my son-in-law, he should act like one. I have told you to divorce him and get married to James Patterson, a better and more successful man, a man who's not lazy and foolish like him. Our family will respect Winston Salem.”

Jason got angry with everything she was saying, he wanted to bounce on her like a boxer who wanted to defeat his opponent.

Ding ding, her phone rang.

She quickly picked it up and she whispered into the phone, with a hoarse voice.

He could hear what the caller was saying as she laughed from her end. While Mrs. Miller Cursed him. She hung up the call after a few minutes with the caller and then strode towards her car.

“Before I forget, I have given Lilian the list of what we need in the house, make sure you buy everything that's on that list before coming to this house.” she blurted out.

Lilian is the family maid, she is in her fifties. She is not allowed to go to the market, Jason has always been the one to go to the market and buy what the family needs.

Mrs. Miller called the driver to start the engine as they drove off, Jason turned as he stared at Jessica whose head was faced down.

“I'm going to work, see you when I come back,” she said calmly.

She got into her car and she zoomed off to work.

Jason got into the house freshened up and went to the market, he got everything that was on the list.

On his way home, a Range Rover was parked in front of him. He was amazed by the design of the car. Just then two men came out and bowed before him and their hands clasped behind them.

He looked at them with shock, his eyes widened in surprise. he looked around his environment as people around watched them.

“Good afternoon, Young master.” one of the men said.

Jason recognized him, he was Robert Smith, and he worked for his father Mr. Benjamin Lewis.

The other guard tried to help him carry what he was holding but he stepped back and refused to allow him.

“What do you want,” He asked in anger. As he stared at them coldly.

“Young master, your father wants to see you. He wants to tell you something important.” Robert said.

“I'm not interested in hearing anything he has to say, just tell him to leave me alone.”

“Young master, I have promised him to come with you. I can't go without you.” Robert uttered.

“Then you better go, because I'm not ready to see him. As you can see I'm heading home and please don't call me or come after me again.”

“Go away,” he yelled.

“Okay, here is my card in case you have a change of mind,” Robert said, as he stretched his hand handing him his card.

He took the card, put it inside his pant pocket, and walked away from them, the men stood still as they watched him cross to the other side of the road.

He got home and went straight to the kitchen, he handed everything over to Lilian. “Thank you, Jason,” she said, as she smiled at him and started preparing the meal before they would come back from work.

Jason scurried into his room and sat on a chair close to the window, he looked at the card Robert gave him. As his mind was in deep thought.

“Why does he want me back, after everything he did to me? He never listened to my words.”

“Why Should I go back?”

“No, I can't go back to that house and he never cared about me, for the past eight years.” He muttered inwardly.
