The screecher turned backward to look at Jack who was still holding onto its tail, and in order to get him away from its body, it flew toward one of the trees, hoping to bash his head against the dry body of the huge tree.

Jack looked ahead as soon as he saw that the screecher had increased its speed, and when he saw that the creature was heading for a tree in an attempt to crash him against it, he thought of a way to get away from the situation that could really hurt him or even end his life.

For the third time, he stabbed the creature with his energy blade, but the determinant creature only screeched in pain and continued moving higher and higher without any plans to change direction.

Seeing that his plan of causing the creature to let go of Lucy wasn’t working out, Jack decided to try another way of getting away from the impending peril that was getting closer and closer to him.

He looked downward, hoping to let go of the tail of the screecher so that he could fall to the groun

“Why don’t you let her go you silly creature?” Jack said angrily while he continued running after the screecher who wasn’t aware that he had gotten down from the tree. “I am coming, Lucy,” Jack said calmly while he increased the speed of his legs, making use of the strength and speed boosters that helped him to catch up with the creature that had to slow down as a result of the deep injury it had on its left eye. He jumped up really high and grabbed the tail for the second time and since the screecher was still in pain and had little strength left in it, it couldn’t go higher than it already was. “Get down! You are not going anywhere!” Jack dragged the screecher down with his left hand, and when the creature realized that it could no longer keep up with the struggle, it let go of Lucy who almost fell to the ground if not for the timely intervention of Jack who quickly let go of both the tail of the creature and his energy blade and grabbed her before she fell to the ground. “I've

Jack remained the way he was, looking at the two elves who were acting really strange. Nothing they did made sense to him, and he dared not to make any move for fear of being attacked with their sharp weapons that were tightly gripped in their hands. “Start talking! Who are you?” Sierra asked while Jack scoffed loudly without being certain of the right response he was supposed to give to her. “Guys? What is happening? I don’t know what you are talking about.” “You better start talking or I will reap your heart out with my spear!” Vince threatened, moving toward Jack who leaned backward as soon as he saw the sharp edge of the weapon getting closer to him. “What are you guys doing? If this is a joke, you need to stop it, okay?”“This is not a joke! How did you know that those were screechers?” “Because Seth told me! Seth told me that they were screechers!” Jack responded at once, and then he turned around to look for Seth who was still hiding behind the tree where he left him. “Li

Suddenly, Lucy groaned loudly, and then they all turned to look at her. “Lucy! You are awake!” “Take your hands off her! Take your hands off her!” Vince ordered Jack who grabbed Lucy on her shoulders the moment he realized that she was awake, and he was forced to let her go when he saw that the elves were ready to attack him if he didn’t. “Lucy? Are you okay?” Vince asked with a low tone while Sierra moved closer to her while pointing her weapon at Jack who moved away at once. “Lucy? Are you okay?” Sierra asked while Lucy sat up, and touched the back of her head while she grunted lowly. “I feel a sharp pain at the back of my head. It hurts.” Lucy grunted again, and Sierra moved closer to her before she withdrew her arrow from her bow, and returned it to the quiver hanging behind her. “Come, let me help you stand.” Sierra grabbed Lucy by her arms, and helped her to get on her feet while she kept a close eye on Jack who was a bit afraid of making any move since Vince was still poi

Jack took about ten steps before he suddenly stopped when a thought occurred to him, causing him to turn to look at the others who were staring at him. “Where is Dwayne?” He said with his brows lifted, and that was when it came to the realization of everyone that the other elf was nowhere to be found. “Dwayne?” Sierra called out to him while she looked around, but when she realized that her voice wasn’t audible enough, she decided to clear her throat in order to speak louder. “Dwayne! Dwayne! Where the hell is he?” She continued, scouring the large area in search of the elf who was not seen. “Dwayne! Dwayne! Where are you?” Vince joined his sister in calling out to him, and when he couldn’t get any response, he turned to look at Seth whom he gave an inquisitive stare. “What? Why are you looking at me like that?” Seth asked instantly, looking at Vince who refused to take his eyes away from him. Then others joined almost immediately, and it became obvious that Vince wasn’t the onl

“I am not acting like a baby! Why would you say that?” “Yes, you are! Centaurs are brave and fierce warriors, and I wonder why you decided to come on this mission if you knew that you couldn't handle a few risks. You should have stayed back in the city and enjoyed the wrath of Lord Rasmus!” Sierra fired angrily, glaring at Seth who couldn’t say any other word. He felt a cringe of embarrassment creeping into his body, and when he looked at the others, he saw that they weren’t so pleased that he was behaving that way. It was obvious that they were very disappointed, and were upset at his behavior. “Let’s go, guys. I think he will join us whenever he is ready. Or better still, he should get the bags and stay where he thinks is safe.” Vince started to move toward Lucy who was already ahead of them, and after Sierra had rolled her eyes at the Centaur, she joined her brother and caught up with him. Seth looked at Jack who was the only one standing close to him and expected him to show h

Vince was the first to take a step backward as he was in front of everyone, and the sound was heard closer to him. “Did you guys hear that?” He asked with a whisper, turning to look at the others who kept quiet with their eyes scouring the entire place in search of anything that could be responsible for the sound. The sound was really fast like the movement of an animal, and they couldn’t detect where it went to as it ran across them in a flash.“What was that?” Seth asked with a shaky voice, but no one said anything as they continued to turn around in search of what they knew nothing about. “Everyone should remain calm.” Jack said amidst the silence that was accompanied by so much tension that lingered in the air. Suddenly, the sound came back again, but this time, it was a bit slower and happened where they were not looking, causing them to turn around instantly to know what had made the sound, but they saw nothing. “Guys? I think someone is here with us, we are not the only on

Even though they still had their doubts, the rest of the crew saw sense in what she said, especially considering the fact that their bodies were beginning to ache as a result of the frozen position they kept themselves in after they had done a lot of exercises from their encounters with the Screechers from earlier. “I am tired, guys. Whatever it was should either show up or continue hiding in the woods, I don’t care.” Lucy gave up almost immediately, and then she slowly lowered her weapon while she took in a deep breath which she let out slowly. The rest of the crew joined her almost immediately while she walked toward her right with her dagger hanging in her left hand while she held onto it casually. “I guess she was right, after all, it was a false alarm,” Sierra said calmly and with a smirk on her face. She slowly took off the arrow from the string on her bow, and then she sighed before looking at her brother who lowered his weapon almost immediately. The two elves turned to lo

“Jack? What do you think?” Vince asked coldly, looking at Jack who stared at him for a while without saying a word. Again, Sierra wasn’t pleased that her brother was asking the Human for his opinion, but for some reason, she decided to be quiet about it even though her countenance showed the displeasure that she was unable to hide. “This is really a tough situation, Vince. I am not sure what to think about this. We might end up in a very difficult and deadly situation if we continue without the map, and it is already looking like we are going to be meeting worse situations with each passing moment.” Jack said eventually, and Sierra scoffed with a smirk on her face. “Of course, he will not have any meaningful thing to say.” She said only to her hearing, and even though Jack heard something from her that he wasn't sure of, he decided to maintain his decision of ignoring her tantrums. “Do you guys think Dwayne left us to continue the mission all by himself?” Seth asked almost immedia

Jack took in a deep breath which he exhaled sharply, and while everyone remained calm, waiting for him to continue, he resumed speaking with a calm but resonant voice. “I forgive you, Vince. I guess you were acting based on impulse even though you shouldn’t have attacked me that way. I hope this teaches you a life lesson.”“Certainly, it has. I have learned that things may not always be the way they seem, Jack. What just happened has taught me a very important lesson.” Vince said with a low tone, he paused for less than five seconds, and when he was sure that Jack was still listening, he continued. “I know better now, Jack. I promise not to ever do that again.” “Good, that’s all that matters.” Jack nodded with a smile on his face, and when he turned to look at Sierra, he sighed heavily. “I forgive you all, the both of you. I just hope that you are not going to do this again.” “We won’t, Jack. That’s a promise. I have realized my mistakes, and I am ready to make amends.” Sierra sa

Overwhelmed by the guilt that cringed him like a volcanic eruption, Vince took in a deep breath which he let out slowly, and when he was certain that he had summoned enough courage, he slowly started walking toward Jack who only gave him a quick glance before he bent his face and grunted angrily. “I am really sorry, Jack. Please forgive me.” Vince apologized with a low tone, but Jack ignored him, unable to forget the fact that he was determined to kill him a few minutes earlier. He tried to accept his apology at once, but he was too upset to easily forgive him without expressing himself at least. “What happened? Why is Vince apologizing to Jack?” Sierra asked Lucy who took a step backward before she sighed heavily. “Jack was the one who saved you, he gave you a substance in a bottle to drink. Vince thought he had killed you, and tried to avenge your death.” Lucy explained with a whisper, looking in at Sierra who was shocked and dumbfounded at the same time. At that moment, she was

“I tried, okay? I tried to stop him, but he is too stubborn! I can’t do anything, Lucy! I have my own problem to worry about!” Dwayne blurted out at once, still grunting inwardly while he looked at Vince who had made two other failed attempts to strike Jack with his spear. “What are you afraid of? huh? Fight me, Jack! Fight me like a man! You just killed two men and my sister! I am sure that taking one more life would mean nothing to you! Fight me! Are you scared?” Vince roared as he marched angrily at Jack who sighed heavily while he watched him get closer with each fast limp he made. Jack’s intention was just to defend himself and never hurt the Elf, but he was afraid that he was going to have to choose between himself and Vince who refused to budge. “You need to stop this, Vince! You are making a very terrible mistake! I don’t want to hurt you! Eventually, Vince gave in, and reluctantly let go of Jack’s hands while he looked at his sister whose life was fading away gradually. “This better work or I am going to kill you myself! I don’t care if you have that weapon or not!” Vince threatened, staring at the blazing sword which lay on the ground close to Jack. “Hurry, Jack! She is almost dying!” Lucy called Jack’s attention to Sierra who had stopped jerking, giving signs that she was about to die. Quickly, Jack leaned forward to her and poured some of the content of the healing oil into her mouth while Lucy helped him keep her mouth open just before she forced her to swallow it. They waited for a few seconds amidst the panic that engulfed them, but nothing happened. Jack looked at the bottle in his hand, and when he returned his gaze to Sierra, he saw that she was not moving, and he became very nervous. “I think you should give her more! Maybe that wasn’t enough!” Lucy suggested, and just when Jack was about to do what she

One of them stopped it from rolling with his left foot, and the two of them growled at Jack angrily, but the sight of the weapon which he wielded firmly caused them not to make a single move. “That should be enough to show you that you will be fighting a lost battle if you decide to stop us from leaving. We do not want any more trouble….” Jack looked at his companions, and then he signaled to them at once, waiting patiently until they got up from their kneeling positions. Vince and Lucy helped Sierra up while Dwayne hurriedly gathered their weapons from the floor

  • chapter 90

For almost thirty seconds, Jack looked at the sword in his hand, wondering if it was going to be able to do anything to hurt the beast in Human form standing before him. At that moment, he would have preferred the energy blade, but there was no time to think about any other decision as Kael had gotten ready to attack. Stomping his feet heavily on the hard floor, Kael ran toward Jack with all the energy he had in him, ready to finish him off with a single strike. “You are going to regret what you did to my champion!” Kael roared, jumping up again while he lifted his sword, and struck Jack with it. Reacting to the nervousness that cringed into him the moment he saw the sword coming down at him, Jack lifted his sword impulsively in an attempt to block the strike from Kael’s sword. Unexpectedly, the blazing sword blazed with a fierce glitter that was bright enough to blind anyone who gazed at it for a long time. Sending Kael’s sword back to him as soon as they contacted, Jack’s blazi

Jack became very wary of what was going to happen if he wasn’t able to dodge the arrow, but because Kael was closer than he was before, he couldn’t discard the nervousness that crept into his body as he watched his enemy get closer to him. Without warning, Kael released the spear from his hand with a more fierce energy which was almost twice the force with which he threw the previous spear which managed to give Jack a cut on his left arm. Luckily, Jack ducked the moment the spear got very close to him, and it flew ahead of him, missing him by several inches. Kael grunted angrily while his men groaned in disappointment as they thought that the spear was going to get Jack after Kael had aimed for his head, hoping to kill him with the second spear. “You missed!” Jack said to Kael with a smirk on his face while he struggled to catch his breath after having a near-death experience while he watched the spear attempt to plunge into his head. “Hand me over a sword!” Kael said imperati

He was still struggling with the uncertainty that crept into his mind as he stood before Kael Who was getting ready to attack him when he suddenly felt a weakness surging through his veins, and causing him to feel very dizzy. His body seemed to be reacting to something he was completely unaware of, and he struggled to keep his eyes open while he groaned. “What is happening to me?
