Chapter Five: Just trying to help

"I have the right to walk freely. This is a public area," Jason said as he took another step forward.

"Stop!" Another bodyguard yelled. Pointing a gun towards Jason.

With one move Jason knocked him out.

Just then, the old man raised his hand.

"That's enough. You can let him through," He said to the bodyguards.

Without saying a word, Jason walked past the old man.

The girl beside the old man smirked.

"You don't know who you're messing with," She said, her eyes on Jason.

Jason stopped in his tracks. He tilted his head towards the old man.

"He is nothing but a dying old man," He said, his tone calm and firm.

Hearing those words, the girl got furious.

"How dare you say that about my grandfather!" She yelled. "You better watch your words!"

Jason turned to them.

"If you care so much about him, then you should know that taking a walk outside will only make his condition worse," He said to the girl.

Jason's words got the old man's attention. He spoke with the boldness of one with a lot of experience.

"Then do you have any suggestions of what I can do?" He asked Jason.

"I do not have anything to offer," Jason replied, his eyes on the girl.

Though he had no expression on his face, the old man could still tell that his granddaughter's behavior must have upset him.

"My name is Robert Richmond, and her name is Gabriella Richmond," He said, gesturing to the girl. "I am sorry for what happened earlier, Gabriella was just being cautious."

The polite words of the old man, who looked powerful, eased his displeasure.

"Walking outside will worse your situation, Robert. " He said.

Gabriella's Jaw dropped. She was shocked that Jason called her grandfather by his first name.

"If that's the case, then I would love for you to be my guest. We can talk more in the house," Robert said to Jason.

But Gabriella wasn't okay with that.

"You can't do that, Grandpa. He might be a fraud! I won't let you..."

"That's enough, Gabriella!" Robert scolded, making her go silent.

"Please follow me, Sir," He said.

"You can call me, Jason," He said to Robert.

Robert smiled.

"Okay, Jason. I'll do that."

Jason followed them through a broad path, and to their mansion.

"Take off your shirt," Jason said as they got into Robert's room.

Gabriella couldn't stand it anymore.

"First, you command him in his own house, and now you want him to do what—take off his shirt?" She said and turned to Robert. "Why are you listening to this crazy person, Grandpa; I'm sure he has something bad in mind."

But Robert turned to her.

"You can leave if you want to, Gabby, but don't interrupt us, okay?" He said in a calm tone.

Gabriella got upset. Without saying anything else, she stomped out of the room.

"Why do you trust me?" Jason asked.

For a stranger, Robert was willing to do everything he said, without complaining. Robert even refused to listen to his own flesh and blood. Jason was curious and needed to know why.

"For decades I have fought for my country. One thing I learned is to trust my intuition, and right now, my intuition is telling me to trust and listen to you," He replied.

Jason nodded.

Robert finally took off his clothes, revealing a body full of scars from knife cuts and gunshots. Though he was old, he still had the muscular frame of a soldier.

Jason's respect for Robert grew.

"Put your hand on my palm," Jason instructed Robert. "Make sure to remember the next movements."

As he spoke, he guided Robert's arm to swing in the air, adding and demonstrating some other specific motions.

After a few minutes, Jason halted the movement.

Robert, gasping for air, suddenly started coughing violently, a foul smell filling the air.

He exclaimed, "I can’t believe this! My breathing is so smooth, and I feel incredibly light. It's like I could jump right back into the battlefield!"

"That's good," Jason said. "Make sure to repeat those movements daily to completely eliminate the disease from your body."

Robert nodded.

He started putting on his shirt. When he was done, he said, "I’d like to host a banquet to show my gratitude."

Jason shook his head. "That won't be necessary," he replied firmly. "I have to go now."

With that, he turned and left without saying anything else.

Robert marveled. He couldn't help but admire the young man.

He thought for a moment and then picked up his phone to call Gabriella.

When she answered, he said, "Could you come over for a second?"

He handed her a black card and instructed, "Please give this to Jason."

Gabriella was shocked when she heard the reason she was called over.

But she just nodded and left.

***

A few minutes after Jason got to the villa. As he was about to open the door, someone called him off. It was Gabriella.

"Have you come to apologize to me?" He asked her with that indifferent look still on his face.

"As if," She muttered and then threw the black card at him. "If you come near me or my Grandpa again, I'm going to make you regret it."

She turned and left.

Jason picked up the black card and stared at it.

All of a sudden his phone started ringing.

Eloise Gates was calling.
