As the evening sun sets, Bethany took one last look at Hilary, who was giggling on Marie’s lap, totally content with everything.

She took a deep breath, her heart swelling with ache, the time for her to go back to work is here and it hurts her so bad that someone else would watch over her daughter while she works hard to secure enough money.

It's been three days since Marie had welcomed her into her home, now it was time to leave.

“Thanks, Marie,” Bethany said softly, her voice laced with gratitude, she added; “It means everything to me that you’re here for her.”

Marie smiled, reaching out to squeeze Bethany’s hand. “You know Hilary is like my own. And you, well, you deserve to chase your dreams, Beth. I know this isn’t the life you wanted but one never knows what tomorrow would bring.”

Bethany’s eyes shimmered, and she forced a smile, nodding. She gave Hilary one more kiss on the forehead. “Be good for Aunt Marie, okay?”

Hilary wrapped her tiny arms around her mother’s nec

The first file began decrypting and transforming into a series of images, documents, and video clips. Garry was nervous as he didn't know what was waiting for him to see. He clicked through them, his mind struggling to process what he was seeing on the monitor. Each piece of evidence was more of deep secrets about the syndicate. Filled with corruption, blackmail, and assassinations. And at the center of it all the one who was orchestrating the chaos, was Terrence Bentley. One file he clipped on made him cold in his feet, as it was a video, about sometime before his father’s death. Just then his father’s face appeared in the video, looking tired, worn, but determined. He was seated across from Bentley, the camera’s angle capturing them both. “I’m telling you, Terrence, this path you’re taking will destroy everything we’ve built. The syndicate was supposed to protect people, not exploit them.” His father Jackson said. Bentley leaned back in his chair, his expression wasn't

“I can’t protect you forever, Jack!” Bentley said, his voice filled with frustration. “If you keep pushing against the Council’s agenda, they’ll come after you. And you know there is nothing I can do to stop that.” Jackson sighed, leaning against a table covered in maps and documents. “Terrence please, I want you to know that I am not pushing against them, Terrence. I’m trying to stop them from crossing the lines we swore we’d never cross. We built this syndicate to protect those who couldn’t protect themselves, not to become another cartel.” Jackson uttered. Bentley shook his head and blurted out; “And you think I don’t know that? You think I haven’t fought the same fights? But you’re putting yourself in their sights, and if you keep this up, they’ll eliminate you without my knowledge that's who they are. This syndicate isn't all forefront with us in case you haven't noticed.” Jackson met Bentley’s gaze, his expression quite resolute and he retorted, “If that’s what it takes t

Garry immediately opened the file as he was very curious about the whole thing, he began scanning through the pages, it was filled with names, operations, assassinations and all of these were tied to the Council. His father’s name appeared repeatedly, each time his father's name was mentioned it was always connected to efforts to undermine their agenda. That means they were all pointing to him that he was undermining their authority and trying to change what this syndicate should be about which doesn't sit well with either of them. “Why didn’t you tell me this sooner?” Garry asked, his voice filled with emotions, he added; “Why let me think you were the enemy? You made me believe that you were my father's killer, I hated you for a whole year, all I had in my heart was to kill you. I hated you with passion, why would you subject me to that?” Bentley sighed, his expression heavy. “Because you needed to see the truth with your own eyes, Garry. If I had told you any of this, you wou

The first step in their plan was to uncover the Council’s next move by using the intel from Bentley’s file. So with that information, they were able to track a high-ranking operative to an underground gala in Vienna. The event was a front for a secret meeting of powerful brokers, all tied to the Council’s operations. Garry and Elena infiltrated the event, posing as a wealthy investor and his bodyguard. The grand ballroom was a labyrinth of glittering chandeliers, those in attendance were wearing mask it was more of a masquerade ball, they kept having conversations. Garry felt out of place in the tailored suit Bentley had insisted he wore. ***Earlier*** After his conversation with Elena Donovan earlier, Garry went to Bentley and asked that Elena be released. “What the hell do you think you are doing? Elena is a loose end. Why do you need to have her with you on this mission? She would only make things worse, besides if the Council sees her, you, this mission is done for, we a

Garry frowned, studying the layout. “There has to be a weak point or something, regardless of how impenetrable it seems, there has to be a weak point. No system is airtight.” Elena then uttered; “Weak points do exist, but they’re usually traps… anyways If we’re going in, we need to make noise somewhere else, that is we have to draw attention away from us.” “Diversion,” Garry said, nodding his head in approval. “What are we talking about here? Like a fire alarm, Bomb scare? Or maybe…” Elena smirked. “Something bigger. We take out their backup power grid. When the lights go out, the guards would be running around and then we will slip in unnoticed.” Bentley rubbed his jaw thoughtfully. “That’s quite ambitious and risky. If they figure out it’s intentional, they’ll lock down the entire building and you guys would be stuck in there without anyway of my men reaching you in time.” “We won’t give them time to figure it out, we will hit fast, grab the intel that we need and get out b

Troy who had been staggering about in a dark alley due to his drunken state on the streets of Glendale CA, in the evening, actually stumbled into a place he shouldn't have, he saw something he shouldn't have and that was about to take his life to another dimension. The alley was a narrow corridor one that two people might fit walking side by side. Some men just killed another and were trying to dispose the body in a garbage dump by the side. Seeing this he gasped and wanted to run away same way he came, when a voice uttered sternly from the darkness; "You shouldn’t be here, you know." He was halfway through when he froze as he heard a gun click behind him. He raised his hands up in retreat, despite his drunken state, that sound made him sober. Troy’s heart began beating rapidly in his chest. He turned to see what was happening behind him and saw four men, stepping out of the shadows, they were more like predators closing in on their prey. The leader had a scar s

After some minutes they marched Troy down the alley, deeper into the city. And every step they took seemed to echo louder in his mind. The men said nothing, their silence was louder than words. Troy didn’t dare ask where they were going, how could he possibly do that? His life was on the line here. So the fact that he was still breathing gave him hope. He just focused on keeping pace and suppressing the pain in his legs. After what felt like hours, they arrived at an old, abandoned warehouse. The walls looked unkempt, the ceilings looked rusty and a sound of dripping water could be heard as it echoed. The scarred man opened the heavy metal door with no care in the world and its noise or screeches were unbearable for Troy but there was nothing he could say, he was at the mercy of these strangers. He felt maybe this was his karma for selling his biological child and daughter off to a stranger simply because he couldn't take good care of her. So all he had to do was either

The room eventually settled with time, but what just happened was still lingering in his mind. If there was actually a bullet in the gun, he would have been dead without a second thought. Troy still stood there, and the gun was still in his trembling hands, unsure of what to do next. The scarred and bald man who everyone seemed to call ‘Joey’ signaled Troy to place the gun back on the table. And he quickly did, he felt the weight of the tension wear off. "You’ve passed step one," Joey said, showing his approval, and then he added; “That doesn’t mean you’re one of us yet. It just means we’re not scraping you off the floor tonight and you have bought a temporary spot on the group. Like I said, you have to always prove yourself or you just might stop breathing." The talkative man, who had been the most vocal with his jeers earlier, stepped closer. His eyes scanned Troy up and down, he still doesn't trust Troy, not like him even. If it were up to him, he would have killed him bac

On one beautiful sunny morning when Elizabeth woke up, a sharp, unfamiliar sensation rippled through her body. She sat up as her breath quickens as she placed a hand on her belly. "Liam," she whispered, nudging him gently. "What’s wrong?" He asked gently. "I think... I think it’s time," she said, her voice trembling with equal parts fear and excitement. Liam sprung out of bed like a bolt of lightning he asked; "Are you sure? How far apart are the contractions?" Elizabeth winced as another wave of pain hits her as she pants heavily; "About ten minutes," she managed to say as she, grips the edge of the bed. “Okay, okay,” Liam said, running a hand through his hair as he began gathering their things. “Hospital bag, keys, phone…” He rattled off a mental checklist as he helped Elizabeth to her feet. “Liam… breathe.” she uttered amused by his doing. He paused, looking at her with a sheepish grin; “Right… breathing, got it.” The drive to the hospital was that of a

A few weeks later, Elizabeth and Liam found themselves back at the clinic, this time for their first ultrasound. The room was quiet except for the soft hum of the machine as the technician prepared for the scan. Elizabeth lay on the examination table, her hand gripping Liam’s tightly. Her heart raced, a mixture of excitement and fear passing through her veins. “Alright, let’s take a look,” the technician said, her voice kind and professional. The screen lightened to life, and a grainy image appeared. Elizabeth held her breath as the technician did her job her face was focused. Then, suddenly, the rhythmic sound of a heartbeat filled the room, it was a rapid, steady beat that seemed to echo in Elizabeth’s chest. “There it is,” the technician said, smiling. “That’s your baby’s heartbeat.” Elizabeth’s eyes filled with tears as she stared at the screen. “That’s… our baby,” she whispered, her voice trembling with awe. Liam leaned closer, his eyes wide with wonder. “Th

Over the next few weeks, Elizabeth and Liam embarked on what felt like the most challenging chapter of their lives. The days became ones of consultations, tests, and procedures. Every appointment brought new questions, new possibilities, and sometimes, new fears. One chilly evening, Elizabeth sat at the dining table, surrounded by pamphlets and brochures the clinic had given her. She stared at the medical review, her eyes tired from exhaustion. Liam Miller walked in, carrying two mugs of tea, and set one in front of her. "You’ve been at this all day," he said softly, sitting across from her. "Maybe it’s time for a break." Elizabeth sighed, running a hand through her hair. "It’s just… there is so much to think about. IVF, hormone therapy, alternative treatments. And none of it guarantees anything, Liam. What if we spend all this time, energy, and money, and I still can’t..." Her voice cracked, and she pressed her palms to her face, trying to hold back the tears. Liam reach

The glow of the sunset shone bright through the windows, casting a golden light across the room. Elizabeth sat on the edge of the couch, her hands placed on her laps. She was deep in thoughts. Her delicate features were calm, but her eyes told a different story, one of desperation and unyielding hope. Across from her, Liam watched in silence, his face softened with love and understanding. He reached out and placed a reassuring hand on hers. "Elizabeth, I hope you know that nothing, absolutely nothing, changes how I feel about you. You're my everything. A child or no child, I love you just as you are." She smiled faintly, but her lips quivered. The tears she had been holding back spilled, as they ran down her cheeks. "I know, Liam, but I can't let it go. I can't. It’s not just about us. It's about me. It’s about... proving something to myself, to the world." His brow furrowed as he moved closer, kneeling before her. "Elizabeth, you don’t have to prove anything to anyone

As the battle and issues escalated, both sides prepared for a climactic showdown or change. Malcom, who was feeling great by his victories, pushed harder, taking greater risks. Wren, ever the strategist, cautioned him to stay on the course. “We can’t let emotions cloud our judgment,” Wren warned one evening. “You mean my judgment,” Malcolm snapped and continued; “Don’t you forget, Wren, I am the one who has everything to lose here Patricia would hate me for sure.” “And I’m the one ensuring that you even have a chance to win,” Wren shot back, she continued; “Remember who put you in this position, Malcolm. The council doesn’t and would never tolerate failure or in your case, insubordination.” Malcom glared at her but said nothing. She was right after all, if not for the impute of the council he wouldn't have even been able to shake Blue Net Group the way he has. So rather than get cocky, it would be better to keep a low profile for now as the Council is who he could rely on to g

But Logan wasn’t oblivious to what was happening, with the help of Sean they began to dig. He began noticing cracks in his perfect world, his supposed business partners withdrawing support, contracts falling through, whispers of his father's past being dug up, his as well being married before. Late one night, Patricia found him pacing in his office, his face filled with worry. “Logan, what’s wrong?” she asked very concerned about him. “I don’t know yet,” he admitted, running a hand through his hair. “But I think Malcom is back.” Patricia was quite confused, she uttered; “Isn’t he and his father in jail? Even if he is out, what do we do?” Logan turned to her, and uttered; “We have no choice but to fight. Whatever he is planning, we have to stop it, for good this time.” “I will b

****A Week Later**** The boardroom of Blue Net Group was buzzing with tension. Logan Bentley, tall and confident with charisma, stood at the head of the table, addressing his team. “Our reputation is about to be punctured if it hasn't already we need to make all those horrible rumours disappear like it never happened,” Logan said, his voice steady. “But we need to ensure that there are no loose ends. I want every department to triple-check and make sure it all goes away.” As he spoke, Patricia Howard entered the room, her presence like sunlight breaking through storm clouds. She smiled at Logan, and for a moment, Malcom, watching through a concealed security camera feed, felt his rage ignite anew. “Look at them,” he hissed, his voice dripping with venom. “So perfect, so untouchable. I’ll wipe that smug look off his face if it’s the last thing I do.” William D'Cruz chuckled beside him as they were both in the same supposed holding cell, but they have never lost contact with the w

When Bethany got home from the photo studio, she had no idea that she was being followed by Troy. Inside her apartment, Bethany lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling. After having a long day and the fact that she saw someone she didn't expect to see, gave her instant insomnia. Sleep wouldn’t come, Troy’s face, his words, his pleading tone they way he looked at her, all of that kept playing in her thoughts endlessly in her mind. She sat up with a frustrated sigh, wrapping a robe around her shoulders. She needed some water so she moved to the kitchen after pouring herself a glass of water. She heard the faint sound of a car door just outside her house, well it made her pause. She kept the glass down and moved to the window, peeking through the curtains and surprisingly, there he was. Troy, leaning against his car, his face turned up toward her building. Bethany’s pulse quickened, a mix of anger and unease knowing that he didn’t leave. She grabbed her phone and s

Bethany’s breathing was quite rapid, her chest rising and falling as she stared at him. Memories of how she was longing for him came flooding. Her mind also raced with images of sleepless nights and searching faces in every crowd or movment until she finally found her daughter. “They could’ve been monsters,” she whispered, her voice breaking. “You gambled with her life, Troy. With my life, all of our lives.” “I know,” he murmured, his voice soft, he knew the magnitude of what he has done; he added; “I know I don’t deserve forgiveness. But I had to tell you, I needed you to know I never stopped thinking about you or about her.” Bethany shook her head, tears streaming freely now. “You don’t get to do this right now. You don’t get to come back and play the victim. I’ve rebuilt my life, Troy. Without you without any of your excuses.” “Bethany, please,” he begged, his voice barely above a whisper. “I’m not asking for anything. I just wanted to see you. To say I am sorry.” She took
