Twelve.

"Are you crazy?"

Edgar watched with a straight face as Lucas paced up and down the room. Of course, he knew Lucas would get mad but did he care? No.

"We are trying to avoid the murderer of---"

"We are not trying to avoid him. We are trying to find out who he is and deal with him." Edgar glowered. "I want revenge for the death of my family members. I am not avoiding that son of a bitch."

Lucas stopped pacing.

"That does not mean you should be foolish. You should be able to see danger and avoid it, but you saw danger and dived right into it."

"That tattoo on Meyer Jones' arm shows that he once worked for the murderer of my family. He is my ticket to knowing the identity of the murderer. He was always involved in their murder. I have to teach him a lesson too, but that will be after I have gotten what I want."

"If the one you seek could just be found by asking his subjects then he would have been found a long time ago," Lucas pointed out. "You would get nothing by interrogating Meyer Jones. You would be exposing yourself instead."

"Then I have to sneak around and get information myself," Edgar said with an air of finality.

"You should not do that either. Meyer Jones is no ordinary person. He is dangerous. You should stay far---"

"So how do I avenge my parents' death?" Edgar thundered. "By pretending to be a nobody and getting insulted, right? I should avenge my parents' death by acting the role that whoever that son of a bitch wants me to. I have been doing so since I was ten. What has been the result? You have no say in my life. This time, I am doing what I want to do."

"You were ten when your family got killed. I, on the other hand, was older and more exposed. I know the kind of person the murderer is too well. Do you think any ordinary person can kill your father? Your father was a demigod. He was the son of a god for crying out loud. You were born human. You only have powers an average person does not possess because your father got them for you. Your father was more powerful than you would ever be but he got killed." Lucas paused talking to look at Edgar's face. "If he could kill your father, what makes you think he can't kill you? Should I tell you the truth, it's best you live low key and try your best to avoid whoever killed your father because you might never be able to kill him. You might get killed yourself instead."

"So, all this while your aim was to make me hide from my parents' murderer all my life." Bruce gave a short laugh of disbelief. "You underestimate me," Bruce said hoarsely.

"Say it however you think it is. I am doing what I think is best for you."

"You don't have to. I make my decisions now," Edgar said sternly.

"What might that decision or those decisions be?"

Edgar smirked. "Decision number one, I would be getting married soon. And, Edna Jones would be my bride."

The next day, Edgar visited his grandma, who was in a coma. And for 'safety purposes', no, she was not in a regular hospital. Edgar had to hide her in one of his mansions and get her treatment from a doctor who was not allowed to leave the house.

"Grandma," Edgar called out. He knelt before the bed of his grandma. His eyes clouded with tears. It was the first time he cried in a long time. The first was when he watched his family murdered.

"I finally found a way to avenge the death of our family members and your sufferings in the hands of that monster. Lucas said he is dangerous. He is saying I can't avenge everyone's death. Grandma, can you imagine? You're lying down almost dead. Father, mother, my cousins, everyone is lying six feet under, dead. How on earth would I let him go free? Grandma, I would get married to Edna Jones, Double cross her father and make him help me get who killed our family members. When I get him, I would kill him, kill Meyer Jones and every soul involved in the death of our family members." Edgar stood on his feet. With the back of his palm, he wiped every bit of tears on his face.

"Can I contribute to your plans?"

Edgar frowned. The last he wanted to hear was Lucas' commanding voice.

"Go home, Lucas. I don't want, nor do I need you here," Edgar said hoarsely.

"Can you hear me out?"

"You're not stopping me from marrying Edna. You can do your worst."

"I am not stopping you. You can in fact marry her and try to get your revenge-"

"I am not trying to get revenge. I am getting that revenge," Edgar interrupted.

"Great. I am here to make sure you get it and not get into trouble."

Edgar turned to him. Lucas had managed to get his interest a little. "What do you plan on doing?"

"You're the one to do something. Before you go on with the plans you have, you have to make me a promise." Lucas reached into the file and brought out some papers. "You have to sign these papers in fact."

"And what do they say?"

"During the period of you trying to get revenge on your father's murderer, you would have no access to your money until you manage to get the revenge you want."

Edgar glared at him. "You're doing it again."

"Meyer Jones is a smart man. He takes note of things. He monitors his daughter. What makes you think he would not do the same to you when you get married to his daughter. And, one more thing-" Lucas paused and watched the face of Edgar. "You have to pause visiting your grandma during this period too."

"Get out," Edgar snarled.

"Are you scared? Aren't you confident that you would hunt down everyone who has a hand in your family's death. Take this as a challenge with your grandma as a witness. If you're doing this, do it with the mind that you lose and lose all. Your money and seeing your grandma."

"LUCAS!" Edgar was red hot— angry.

"Unless you're unsure of getting that revenge."

Without thinking, Edgar snatched the papers from Lucas' hand, took out a pen from the pocket of his shirt and scribbled on the papers.

"I, Edgar Plutus, Last Descendant of the god of money himself will hunt down the murderer of my father. As long as I am alive, he or she will die."
