Eleven.

Edgar went straight to one of his villas by the countryside from the restaurant, angered by Edna's words.

He wondered if Meyer would have had the guts to try to coerce him into doing what he did not want to if he knew about his true identity.

"Why are you angry with her? She only wanted to warn you?"

Edgar turned to his right. His nose flared.

Lucas was with him in the room.

Edgar glared at him. "I should be angry the most at you. If you-"

"Did not make me act like I have nothing, no one would have dared talk to me anyhow they liked or something like that," Lucas smirked after completing his sentence.

"Get out of my house." Edgar glowered at him.

Not minding what Edgar said, Lucas walked into the interior of the room and sat on one of the sofas in the room.

"Why are you-"

"Why do you keep on giving commands when you know I will do whatever I want to do?" Lucas asked. His smirk was still on his face.

Edgar rolled his eyes. He was right and it was annoying.

"I can't wait to get rid of you," Edgar muttered to himself.

"You can't get rid of me if I don't want you to."

Edgar frowned. They were so many workers grandma could have chosen from to take care of him. He wondered why she chose someone as annoying as Lucas.

"So, would you consider marrying her? She seems like a nice girl and you seem to like her."

"I don't like her," Edgar said hoarsely.

"Why else would you wear a suit worth thousands of dollars to a date with her?"

"It wasn't a date," Edgar snarled.

"You should try to find love. Don't be too rigid. Love can be sweet."

"Well the one I had with Patricia was bitter."

"You did not marry Patricia because you loved her. You both have never loved each other."

"Whatever. You want me to marry Edna? What about your 'keep a low profile' rule?"

"I'm not telling you to marry her. Of course, you should not marry her. Just wanted to see if you have a heart," Lucas said. "What are you planning to do with her father?"

"I'll only strike when he makes a move."

Immediately, Edgar's phone beeped.

It was a message.

‘I'm in trouble. Please save me for the very last time. I went to the bar we met for the first time today. These guys have bad plans and there's no way to escape.’ This message from Edna was displayed on his phone screen immediately he switched on the phone.

"Edna is in trouble," Edgar announced to Lucas' hearing.

"Her father monitors her. I'm pretty sure she would be okay without you."

"It will be dangerous to take chances."

Lucas frowned. "Her father threatened you because you refused to marry her after helping her. What do you think he would do if you help her now?"

"He can't do anything to me. You know it," Edgar said dryly.

"You said you don't like her. Why are you helping her?"

"She's in danger. I help people in danger."

Lucas scoffed. "You are danger, itself."

"Yes, to soiled souls. I save those who are as pure as Edna from danger."

"I still strongly feel you should ignore that message," Lucas said.

Edgar began to walk to the door. "Why do you keep on giving me advice when you know I won't listen to you?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Edgar had gotten to the bar about 30 minutes after getting Edna's message. Edgar looked around. Something felt off.
The environment was too quiet for an environment belonging to a bar.
He walked in and his suspicion was right. There was no one in the bar. He took a good look and noticed the presence of the bartender.
"Where is everybody?" He called out.
The bartender turned to look at him and Edgar frowned.
"I sent them away," The bartender said with a smirk.
It was a crazy man- Edna's father, Meyer Jones.
"Well, the source of Edna's mental illness is very obvious," Edgar muttered to himself.
"You rushed here immediately when you saw the message. What would make me stop wanting you as my son-in-law? If you had not come, I would have reconsidered, but here you are."
"Don't you think it is a little unthoughtful to raise a false alarm? I could have been doing something important for crying out loud."
Meyer Jones grinned. "You said you no longer have anything to do with my daughter. I was not really expecting you to come. If you had not, I would have stopped pestering you to marry my daughter."
Edgar scowled, remembering Lucas' advice to ignore the message. It was not the first time this was happening. Lucas always manages to prove him wrong and the reverse was always the case for him when he tried to do the same.
It was one of the reasons he laid low even when he did not want to. Lucas was always right and deep down, he felt if he did not listen to him, there would be trouble.
"If you want someone to look after your daughter, get her a bodyguard," Edgar said in disdain.
"My daughter's protection is not a problem. I want to get her a husband that can bear her. Once in a while, she runs totally mad. By that time, she would be no different from the mad people who roam on the street. If she gets married to the wrong person. He would look down on her and the whole world would know about my daughter's condition and look down on her."
Edgar scoffed. "And you think I'm not the wrong person?"
"You're from a poor background. You're a nobody. I can control you," Meyer sneered.
"Then control me to marry your daughter. I'm not what you think I am."
Meyer smiled smugly. "All you are displaying is initial gyrations. It is nothing. Just one strike from me and I would have you at my fingertips."
"I am more than you think. You're in fact a nobody before him," Edgar spat.
Meyer Jones scowled at him. "Now that's not a respectful way to talk to your father-in-law." He looked to his left side and snapped his finger.
"It's better I teach you how to be a respectful son-in-law before you get out of hand. I have been showing the small nice side of me." Meyer Jones smirked. His voice got raspier and lower. "It's time to show my true colors."
Immediately, five hefty men came out of nowhere and surrounded Edgar.
"Are you sure your daughter is the crazy one and not you," Edgar said defiantly and Meyer Jones glared at him.
"Beat him up," Meyer commanded and the men lunged toward Edgar. Before Edgar could say ‘Jack Robinson’, they had begun to pound him.
Edgar had two choices- to forget Lucas' warnings and deal with all five hefty men and Meyer Jones himself and risk the whole world knowing that he was no ordinary person or bear the beatings.
Well, not listening to Lucas had gotten him to this position. He figured that not heeding to his words again would make things worse.
"Would you marry my daughter? Do whatever I ask you to do even if it costs your life."
Edgar raised his bloody face to look at Meyer. His nose was smashed, both eyes swollen and his mouth, bloody red.
The fists of the hefty men no longer pounded his flesh. They all made a fist though, ready to continue if he said not what their boss wants to hear.
"You can't make me marry her by beating me up," Edgar scowled. He would rather defy Lucas' warnings than do what the madman before him forces him to do.
"I think I would have to join in the fun then," Meyer said with an evil glint in his eye. He made a fist revealing the sharp edged rings that adorned every one of his fingers.
Edgar frowned. It seemed like it was time everyone knew who he was.
Meyer rolled up his sleeves. As he did, Edgar was ready to fight back.
He froze as Meyer Jones' sleeves were rolled up to the level of his biceps.
Just below where the rolled up sleeve stopped was a tattoo.
It was no ordinary tattoo. It was more like a logo. One he has seen before.
The hefty men continued pounding him, but unlike before, he did not move one bit.
Meyer's fist was almost at his face.
Then, the moment froze.
It was time travel.
This time he was ten and was at a bigger and more luxurious mansion.
The same arm was almost on his face. It did not hit him though. Before he could get to him. A young lady shielded him and was impacted instead.
Immediately, his grandmother pulled him away and sped off.
They met Lucas.
"Grandma!" 10 year old Edgar screamed, as Lucas, the servant whose care his grandma had placed him in, threw him on his back and ran through a tunnel underneath the house.
"Grandma, please come with me."
Lucas turned to look at him. Immediately, his face aged to the face Edgar knew in his 30s.
"You might feel that getting closer to Meyer Jones is the best way to get revenge for your family's death. It is not. Don't do it."
"Stop!" Edgar was back from his travel to reality.
Meyer Jones smirked.
"I'd marry your daughter."
This time he was not listening to Lucas. Regardless of the outcome, he was keeping his enemy close.
