“…then he walked right out and started laughing,” Leo explained, leaving both Darwin and Varrick in laughter.
Leo described the dream he had when he was a kid, as they travelled down to Ivandale. “Leo, it’s time we tell you about Scarlet Magic High School and how we got into it, although our backgrounds were not well known,” said Varrick, as he pulled out a mini pocket sac of water and took a sip. “I was going to ask but I forgot. Please, tell me,” Leo requested, as he stared at Varrick. “Abigail, Darwin and I are childhood friends. We grew up together, and we trained together but Abigail’s magical affinity surpassed ours, making her the strongest among us three,” Varrick spoke. “I was a little bit stronger, though,” Darwin raised his voice, speaking from the front of the cart, where he sat and he controlled the horses. Upon hearing what Darwin said, Varrick began to laugh. “Only in your wildest imagination. Remember when she flung you across the class when you asked her o-” “Ahh, that’s enough. You’ve proven your point,” Darwin interrupted. Varrick continued to laugh but Leo did not get the slightest idea as to what was happening. “Anyway, Leo what I was trying to say was she became our leader because she was the strongest. At that time, Abigail’s mother so happened to know the demon king and with his sponsorship, we were able to enroll in Scarlet Magic High School,” Varrick continued. “Wait…wait…wait, so you attended the Magic high school, then why did Master Darwin disagree for me to got there?” Leo asked, curious. “I told you already. You can become an easy target in a place where magic is everything, especially when it’s included in your school work,” Darwin responded. “Exactly, he was just worried,” Varrick supported. “Although we attended the high school together, our classes were different. It was separated by-” “Sorry,” Darwin said, after enterring into a pot hole, making the cart shake vigorously. “It was separated by how strong your magic affinity was. It might have changed now but then, I’m not sure. When you pass the entrance exam, you’ll find out,” Varrick spoke. “Entrance exam?” Leo asked. There was a brief moment of silence, before Varrick spat out the water in his mouth. “THE ENTRANCE EXAM!” Varrick exclaimed. “We had totally forgotten,” Darwin responded. Leo was confused. What was all the fuss about? “Is the entrance exam that hard?” Leo questioned, trying to understand the tension caused by mentioning the exam. “Okay, see,” Varrick started as he took a deep breath. “The entrance exam is divided into two; the written exam and the practical exam. The written exam is mostly about the history of magic, the divine tree and also about the mythical creatures and monsters. Meanwhile, the practical exam is about showcasing your magical power and affinity. They test the level of your speed, accuracy, response to emergency and also aptitude to problems.” “Let’s not forget the brain teaser,” Darwin spoke. “Brain teaser?” Leo replied. “What’s that?” Varrick chuckled. “It is the most difficult part of the practical exam but it’s left for you to discover what is about. It differs from person to person,” he responded. “Wow, sounds a little uhm… mysterious,” Leo said, stroking his chin with his palms. “There are many flies here.” “We’re finally here,” Darwin said as the walked into a lavishing gate with the name IVANDALE, written on it. “Beautiful,” Leo whispered as a smile grew on his face. “I know right?” Varrick replied. “Welcome to Aranthia Ivandale, the city of sorcerers and my hometown.” “And my own home town too,” Darwin spat. “No need to be violent, Darwin,” Varrick said as he moved closer to Darwin and rubbed his hair. Leo giggled a little, watching Darwin and Varrick pick on themselves. “Aranthia,” Leo said. Varrick and Darwin stopped teasing themselves. Varrick glimpsed at Leo and said, “Abigail and you lived in Eldona, it’s at the other side of Ivandale so you won’t know this city.” “Yeah,” Leo said as he stared into the city, feeding his eyes with the view. “Let’s take a pause and get some food. I think we should go there, Varrick,” Darwin said stopping the cart and glaring at Varrick with a smirk. “Yes, we should,” Varrick replied as he returned the smirk. A few minutes later, Darwin, Varrick and Leo found themselves in a brothel. “What the hell are we looking for here? I’m still a mi-” “Shh, just go with the flow,” Varrick closed Leo’s mouth. “We’re hear to meet someone very important. Someone we have not seen in a very long time.” “Leo, don’t forget. You are not Abigail’s son here but you are a lost child that we found in the woods and adopted. Abigail is rather known around here, so to avoid any form of attention, try to keep your identity hidden,” Darwin said as they all walked into the brothel. “Ay ay, Captain,” Leo said, sarcastically as he giggled. They walked into the brothel, which was dark with loud music. It was rather empty, which they wanted. “Good, exactly how we wanted it,” Darwin said as they walked through the serving parlour and into a common room with brighter light. It was so bright that their eyes had to adjust before they could see a thing. “Var, Dar, its you. After like forever,” a red hair, slender woman said. Her eyes as red as a crescent moon and her skin as pale as snow. She jumped on them, embracing them with joy. “Sydney, how have you been?” Varrick asked. “You’ve still not aged a bit, witch,” Darwin complemented, sarcastically. Sydney giggled it off and rubbed their hair with her hands. “And who is the young lad behind you,” she asked, taking a quick glimpse at him. Leo cleared his throat and gulped hard. “I’m Leo,” he responded, staring at her as their eyes met. “Who was she?” Leo thought to himself. “Why did they have to see her?”Leo stared at Sydney after he introduced himself. He wandered who she was to Darwin and Varrick. Syndey casually let go of Varrick and Darwin and walked up to Leo, and held him by his cheeks. “You’re such a good boy, where are you from?” she asked, rubbing his cheeks with her palms. Leo tried to reply but he could not because his fondled cheeks was a nuisance. “Let him be,” Varrick said, removing Sydney’s hands from Leo’s cheeks. “I’m sorry,” Sydney chuckled, taking a step back from Leo. Leo let out a great sigh of relief and he glared at Sydney, as he held his cheeks which had turned red. Sydney looked at him with a smile, giving off an innocent aura, which made his annoyance subside. “He’s a child we found in the woods, and we adopted him and took him as our student,” Darwin said, heading towards the couch to take a seat. He sat on the comfortable couch and let out a sound of relief. “This is it,” he said, his mouth widening from side to side. Sydney could not believe wh
“Now that this is solved, Syndey please help him,” Varrick pleaded as he walked shoulder to shoulder with her. Sydney let out a loud sigh and halted. “Hey, Leo boy, follow me,” she said as she slightly glimpsed at him. Leo gazed at Darwin, who folded his arms, and he nodded positively. Leo hastily walked towards Sydney and followed her. “I really hope they will be fine,” Varrick thought to himself as he watched them walk away. As Sydney and Leo walked together, Leo hummed a song. “Where do you know that song from?” Sydney asked, realizing that it was Abigail’s favorite song. “SHOOT!” Leo thought. “She can’t know I’m Abigail’s son or else Master Varrick and Master Darwin would kill me before any other person.” “Well, my two masters normally sing it. That’s how I know it,” he replied to her, flashing a sarcastic smile. “Alright then. Moving on, what’s your magical affinity?” she questioned, as they walked into an underground garden. “Woah!” Leo exclaimed. The globe ceiling, w
“Is Abigail actually your mother?” Sydney asked, staring at Leo. “Well, uhm…she,” Leo stuttered, unsure on whether to tell Sydney the truth or not. “I already guessed so, there’s no need to lie about it. As soon as I saw the pearl necklace around your neck, I already knew but I don’t get why Darwin and Varrick would lie to me,” she replied, storming out of the flower garden. Leo followed her as his thoughts wandered. Was it a bad thing for Sydney to find out about his mother? “DARWIN, VARRICK!” Sydney exclaimed, barging into the common room where they sat. Varrick and Darwin glanced at themselves in confusion. “Why are you screaming?” Darwin asked, as he gazed at Sydney who stood at their front and crossed her arms. Sydney did not mutter a word. She stared at them, coldly. Suddenly, Leo popped out in front of them. “She found out,” Leo said under his voice. “Found out what?” Varrick asked, standing up from the couch. “Abigail is his mother and you found it best to
“The current magic king and the very first magic king is Alex, Abigail’s first love when she entered into Scarlet Magical High School. I will never forget their love story. They were the most beautiful couple at that time,” Sydney spoke, reminiscing about the past. “Yeah, right,” Darwin responded, flinging his face away. “But, you cannot deny the fact that it is true,” Syndey said, gazing at Darwin. Varrick laughed, watching the two argue. “I never knew my mom had a first love,” Leo said calmly, as he looked at her pearl necklace, placed on his neck. “I won’t say first love, but he was like her only love,” Sydney added. “But when he came, things fell apart between them.” “Who is the he?” Leo asked. “There’s no need for you to find out. It’s all in the past now,” Varrick said. “For now, let’s find our way to the Maho Jo. They all got ready to leave for the Maho Jo. Leo was more excited that anyone. He stepped out of the brothel and looked the sky. The sun had begun to set and t
“Alex!” exclaimed Varrick as Alex descended from the stairs. It was the 2nd Magic King of Aranthia, Alex Maho. Alex walked up to them and gave them a warm embrace. “You finally came back to Ivandale after many years of your disappearance,” Alex said as he stepped back. “Let’s continue this talk on the dining table, I planned a welcoming party specially for you guys.” “I’m touched, Ale- I mean, Magic King,” Darwin spoke as they walked to the table. After they arrived, the chefs began to arrange the food on the table. They sat down comfortably before Alex realized that they had an extra. “Who is that?” Alex asked. Leo was captivated by the interior of the Maho Jo, he did not hear Alex talking to him. Varrick kicked his feet a little. “Back to Earth, Leo,” he whispered to him. “Sorry, what did you say?” Leo asked, as he slightly gazed at Alex. “Introduce yourself, young lad,” Alex said as he carried a glass cup of water and drank. “I’m Leo Hu and I’m 17 years old,” Leo respon
“WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?” Leo screamed, his voice lacing with anger as a frown crawled on his face. Leo rushed into the partially destroyed kiosk with Jason drawing the attention of the wild boar. “Leo, be careful,” Jason said, as he watched Leo enter the kiosk, full of anger. “I hope he does not take any rash decision,” he whispered to himself, worried. “Come here, you demonic creature!” Jason began to attack the wild boar. “Impact: Windy fist,” he said, releasing a powerful gust of wind, which was shaped as a fist. Meanwhile, Leo who entered into the building, searched for the baker. “Miss Timmy,” he called out, as he passed through the serving area and into the baking area. The surrounding was dusty and dark. Little by little, the kiosk fell. From the woods holding the kiosk, to the ceiling, the bakery crumbled. “Miss Timmy, please answer me,” Leo called, as he coughed affected by the dust. “Curse that wild boar.” Suddenly, Leo stumbled on a broken glass and he mi
Leo stared at the boar, frightened. A lot of thoughts went through his head. “Inhumane child? What a rude thing to say,” said Jason, snaring at the boar. “Eradicate Leo like his mother was eradicated,” the boar spoke, smiling cunningly. Leo gazed at the boar and after it mentioned the death of his mother, he felt a surge of fury burst from him. The smirk on it’s face, made him more infuriated. “Disgusting,” Leo whispered as his fingernails got buried into his palms. Leo’s eyes became blue, his magical aura became very strong. “What’s this aura?” Jason questioned as he saw Leo’s other side. The boar could feel the strong aura coming from Leo. Its smirk turned into a frown. It knew that the Leo he had faced before is now different. It took a step backward and released the same attack he used against Leo. But this time, Leo’s water wall was more powerful. The boar was surprised. It tried to release the attack a second time, thinking that Leo’s defense was just a fluke. “Infinit
“Finally, I can get back home and rest my head.” Lucas came out of the store where he worked as a part-time cleaner, he was done for the day and wanted to head back home to rest his head. There wasn't much for him to do when he got back home, he had to rest his head. He had five jobs for the next day, “After all that work I need to get a day to sit down and relax. But if I do that then I will be down on payment and stuff. The last thing I want is that stupid landlord to come and throw me out on the streets like I can't do anything.” Lucas kicked an empty can as he walked down the street. He let out a defeated sigh as he kept walking. “Who am I kidding? The man will make sure that I don't even find another house in the city, I have to make sure I don't lose everything I have as a home.” Lucas was not the type of person that would sit back and enjoy a day off. He had been alone since his high school days, he was what people would call a total loser. All of his peers had somethi
