Where Leo’s home stood, a crater was formed and there was no sign of life anywhere close to it. There was no way anyone would have survived an explosion that massive. Above the crater, three beings were hovering there. They resembled the ones that had attacked Leo’s home.
“So they failed to bring in Abigail and the core. I wonder what they were thinking when they tried to face Abigail. Did they forget that she was the same person who fought with Vallin? I don't even know why I was stupid enough to let them go for her when I knew that I could have come on my own.” “You thought that there was going to be a chance that they wouldn't slip up, there was nothing there to tell you that you were sending fools to fight in a battle with a warrior you got a scar from. But for her to use a forbidden spell, it meant that she was trying to hide something from us. She also made sure that she killed the three useless soldiers we sent for her. There is no telling what might have been the secret she was hiding that made her even think of blowing herself up?” “I don't know, but we can't put our plans on the sidelines for long, the age of chaos and the time of destruction is nigh.” The beings vanished from the scene, leaving the place like they were never there. Back in the forest, Leo was still in a comatose state. The men were making sure that his wounds were being healed, and he was not going to be awake in the meantime. Leo kept moving uneasy in his sleep, having flashbacks of his past life and his mother dying. He kept seeing Abigail’s smile before she blew everything up. “Oi Varrick, the boy is shaking violently in his sleep, I wonder what he is dreaming about,” one of the men said as he looked at Leo shaking in his sleep. The uneasy shaking coming from the boy was disturbing. “It is clear that he went through some trouble, even though he is Vallin’s son. He has just survived one of Ivandale’s threats as a creature and there is no telling what he has been through before coming here. Come on Darwin, I know you are not thinking of waking up that boy like that. He might lose it.” Varrick and Darwin were warriors who resided in the forest Heio, which was located in Sylvanmentra. They were Abigail's comrades, which was why the orb brought Leo to them. Darwin rolled his eyes at Varrick's comment. “You think I am that cold? Please, I am not going to wake him up, I am only checking him for wounds that we might have missed.” “He has all the features of a dragon pup, but his mother's druid blood runs through him. There is a chance that he will be Tri-elemental if he were to break all the seals.” Darwin smiled, he didn't even want to hold himself to think of what wonders the boy in front of him would be able to do. “It will not be a surprise, his mother was a dual-elemental with a scary mana core. She was able to subdue Vallin before any of us could do anything to him,” Varek sat down to look at Leo. He was having a hard time remembering Abigail and what she could do. The people of Ivandale were able to cultivate the mana surrounding them to control the elements, once anyone in Ivandale awakened the mana core within them. They would cultivate it until they got their affinity, humans could control one element at a time, and in rare cases, they would be dual elemental people who could control two elements. People like Abigail had two elements; she had wind magic and could also control star magic due to her druidic training. It was something that no one would have even thought of doing. She was one of the few humans who had reached the highest form of druidic power. But beings like Elves and Dwarves were naturally born dual elementals, they controlled wind, earth, lighting, and metal. They were some of the strongest creatures of Ivandale, and they posed a threat to the humans if they were ever to go berserk. There were other creatures in Ivandale, but they were hidden from the people. They were rumoured to be covered in mana, and could destroy a continent if they were angered. Creatures like dragons were almost seen as myths or extinct beings that didn't even exist in the world. “You saw what his father could do, a dragon king, the last of his kind. I only hope this boy won't make things hard for us while trying to make him train.” Darwin sat down to prepare something that would help Leo wake up. He didn't want to let anything hurt him. “It's the first time we have seen a hybrid, but I know that he is going to be somewhat of a promising warrior.” Varek smiled as he watched his brother work, he didn't even do anything but wait for Leo to wake up. Leo was stuck in somewhat of a trance, he had been wandering in what looked like a labyrinth in his dream. He had tried many times to get out. “What in the world is going on here?” Leo sounded a bit frustrated. He looked around the empty void. It looked like an Observatory, the ceiling filled with stars, and he could see meteors moving in the void space. Leo had been trying for what looked like a lifetime. He didn't even know what he would do. Feeling defeated, Leo stood at a place. “I am tired, how am I ever going to leave this place?” Leo stood up and looked around where he stood and didn't see a single life form. “So I am stuck here? But where is this anyway?” Leo asked as he looked around the place he stood in. He was trying to find out if there was an opening for him to leave through. He was not even sure he knew how he was able to get into a place like that. “You came here the moment you lost consciousness,” a voice said from above Leo. Leo had goosebumps when he heard the voice. It sounded deep and what people would call the voice of a god. Leo looked up to see who was there, but he didn't see anything. It sent shivers down his spine. He didn't know what or who it was that was in place with him. “There is no need to be afraid. You can't see me for now. You have not yet broken the first layer of the seal. But for you to enter this place means you have already started. Abigail did a good job.” Leo's eyes widened when he heard his mother's name mentioned. “How do you know my mother? Who are you?!” There were sounds of laughter coming from the voice, it seemed like it was happy to see Leo there. “You do look like her, but you seem to have that fire inside you. I know you will be someone great. For now, I can’t talk to you, but when you break the first layer of the seal you will be able to come back here, and I will tell you who I am.” Leo was looking around, and he was sure that there was no way he would be able to find the person talking. “Who are you? And what are you trying to do?” Leo was not ready to fight anyone, he was still shaken from his fight with the Orc Bear. But he was not going to let anything surprise him. “Do you know where this is? Can you help me get away from here?” The voice gave off a light sigh, as he began to give Leo the answers he needed. “This is a space made for our kind, it is a place you will come to take rest whenever you lose consciousness. It is safe, since no being can come in here.” Leo was confused further when he heard that he was different and not human, “What in the world do you mean by our kind? Are you not human? What are you trying to say?” The voice scoffed, “Don't worry, you will know before the next time we meet again. I hope that you don't come here like this again. For now, goodbye Leo .” “Wait what, how do you know who I am?” Before Leo could finish his words, he felt something pull him from the place he was standing. Leo then opened his eyes, taking a deep breath as if he had survived drowning. Leo coughed as he struggled to sit up. He looked around the room he was in, noticing that there were so many things there. “Where in the world am I? What happened to that voice?” “What voice? Did you visit the afterlife and somehow make it back to the living?” Darwin teased. Leo sprung up in fear when he heard Darwin’s voice. He turned to see a man standing there. The man had dark brown hair and deep blue eyes. He wore a sleeveless shirt and a coat that seemed to be made from an animal he had killed. The man looked fierce and intimidating, but his voice was a bit misleading. “Sheesh, I am not that ugly. There is no need to hurt my feelings.” Darwin sat down as he handed Leo a bowl, “Drink this, it will help boost your stamina.” Leo was still confused, and he didn't know what was happening. He only remembered facing a seven-foot-tall creature that almost killed him. But in what seemed like a dream, he killed the Orc Bear. “Who are you? What of the Orc Bear? Did you kill it? And why are you giving me something to drink? I don't even know you, are you some kind of trafficker?” Leo was looking at the man, he didn't know who he was, and he was not going to take chances with anyone. Darwin dropped the bowl to the ground, he had an irritated look on his face, but he was not sure what he would do to Leo. “For the love of heaven, you just asked five questions in under twenty seconds. If I wanted to kill you I would have done that after I saw you kill that Orc Bear!” Leo was shocked when he heard what Darwin said, so it was not a dream. He was the one who had killed the Orc Bear. “You mean I killed that thing? How?!” A vein almost popped out of Darwin’s head when he heard Leo’s question. “You questioned it to death! Just like you want to do to me now! My gods, you are just like Abigail.” Leo went silent when he heard the man call his mother’s name. “You knew my mom?”Leo was looking at Darwin. He would never have imagined that there was a chance he would meet someone who knew his mother. Leo was looking at Darwin, he was trying to make sure that he didn't even make a mistake. “You knew my mother? You called her name. Do you know her?” Darwin rubbed his head, he didn't even know what he was going to do. He looked at the boy in front of him. He didn't know what he was going to do to make Leo stop asking questions. “If you ask me any other questions I might blow my head away, but there is no way for me to do that.” Darwin looked at Leo. He knew that the boy was still confused and everything was happening all too fast. Leo saw that Darwin was a bit stressed out. He noticed that all his wounds were healed and closed. He was in good condition, and he knew that the man in front of him might have been the one that made sure of that. “Sorry, I don't know what to do, and it's been a strange ride for the past few hours for me. Please tell me how yo
Leo was filled with hope, knowing that there would be a chance for him to become a stronger warrior and make sure he changed his life. “Master Darwin, if I am not mistaken, you also knew my father, right?” Leo smiled as he looked at Darwin. He wanted to learn more about his family before his training began. Darwin looked at Leo, the sad young man he had seen a few minutes ago had vanished, and he was looking at a boy who had hope, and he was going to do anything to make sure that he didn't fall back into depression. “Yes, I knew your father, he was one of the funniest fellows I met. He had a temper, a very nasty one, but when we got to talk to him, it was clear that he was a good guy. But even before we found out that he was a good guy, your mother would always be the one to knock some sense into him.” Darwin smiled as he was telling Leo about his parents. It was a clear sign that he had enjoyed his time with his old companions. Something that would always comfort him. Leo cou
“What do you mean by explode? There has to be an explanation for this, there is no way he is going to explode!” Darwin was looking at Varrick. He was a bit confused on hearing that Leo was going to explode if he tried to break the seal without training. “It means the seal that Abigail put on him is even stronger than a grade five scarlet core seal. For some reason, she wanted to make sure that he was not going to find it easy breaking the seal.” Varrick was looking at Leo. The boy was going to have a hard time thinking about breaking the seals, and it was going to be the hardest thing he could imagine doing. “You mean Abigail used that kind of spell on her son? But what was her reason for even putting it on him? I know that there were people after her, but then that means that there has to be something else she didn't drop in that message.” Darwin was not going to be thinking of what he was going to be doing that quickly. He had promised Leo that he would train him to break the se
The three stepped outside for the match to begin. Leo looked around and saw that they were deep in the heart of the forest and there were critters around there. Leo could feel the mana in the area, he saw that everywhere was filled with magic, and it was clear that there was a huge amount of mana there. “There is a huge amount of mana in the area, so I guess that all this is at the white mana core, right?” Leo looked at his master, he was waiting for Darwin to tell him that he was right. “Well no, the area is filled with Light Blue Mana Core.” He paused to see a defeated look on Leo's face. “Don't feel bad that you didn't get it right, it's not the end of the world. They feel like white mana cores and act like it, but that's one perk of the Heio forests; they don't usually give off what they are. You see, that way there is no one trying to cultivate the entire area for themselves.” Darwin paused when they had reached a particular area, “This is a good spot, it has all the space we
Darwin and Varrick were looking at Leo, they were shocked to see that the boy was still cultivating mana like it was something he would do normally. “This is pretty scary, how in the world was he able to break through the first seal and reach his dark blue mana core like this? This is something that needs to be studied.” Varrick was looking at Leo, he was emitting energy that only people who were strong warriors would have. Darwin laughed when he saw what Leo was doing without even being aware. “I don't know about you but all I see is a warrior that is ready to dance with me, I want to see what he can do,” Darwin said looking at Varrick, he was ready to face Leo in the sparring match. “You better be careful, for all we know, this boy doesn't even know his strength. There is something about his abilities that is still not settling right with me.” Varrick was looking at Leo, he didn't want his brother to lose his life all because of a foolish game he was going to be playing. “Don't
It had been four months since Leo had gone to Heio and discovered that he had a seal in his body. He had begun training with Darwin and Varrick to ensure that he broke the remaining two seals on him. It had taken two months for Leo to reach the intermediate sword master level and it was not easy for him but there was no way he would be seen as a normal warrior after what he and Darwin had been through the last four months. Both of them were sparring outside, the air was filled with the sound of their clashing blades. It was a hell of a spar, Leo had improved to the extent that he could push Darwin back to the wall. “You're getting better at wielding your sword Leo, I know in three months you will be a full-on sword warrior and nothing is going to be stopping you,” Darwin said as he tried to land a blow on Leo, but with everything he tried, Leo would react with a faster and stronger defence. “You keep saying that to boost my freaking ego, knowing it might be working. I will get to
Leo and Darwin walked back to the treehouse, and they walked into Varrick making a potion. He was deep in concentration and everything seemed to be glowing. Varrick was trying to find a way to make sure that they broke the remaining two seals and unlock Leo's affinity, but in everything he had checked, there was nothing he found that was going to help him. ‘He is a Dragonborn and I don’t know the first thing about Dragonborns and their affinity. Only the heavens know how long it’s going to take to bring it out.” Varrick was lost in his thoughts, he didn’t know what the outcome of the entire research was. “You look busy,” Darwin said as he looked around trying to make sure that he wouldn’t tip anything over. Varrick snapped out of the daze and quickly put a smile on his face. He wanted to make sure that there was no sign of worry on him. “You’re back early, so who won this time?” Varrick asked, still with the smile on his face and looking at the two as they walked in. “The kid tho
Leo felt like the night won’t end. His thoughts roamed around. He was excited but scared about the dungeon raid. “What if Darwin’s plan fails? Would I be able to unlock the seal to reach my affinity?” Doubts crossed his mind but he was determined to achieve his goal. The stars disappeared and the sun began to rise. Leo did not get an ounce of sleep. “Are those eye bags?” Darwin asked, staring into Leo’s eyes. Leo staggered towards Darwin and pricked a smile. “Little eye bags. Anxiety got the better of me,” he yawned, cleaning his eyes with his palms. Darwin gently tapped Leo. “Don’t worry, you got this,” he motivated, smiling brightly. Leo smirked, cracking his fingers. “Yes, Master Darwin. Let’s go!” he exclaimed, excited. Darwin and Leo began their journey to the dungeon. They make their way out of Heio forest to the deep cluster of dungeons. The excitement was written all over Leo’s face. Darwin knew that he had to do all it takes to help Leo unlock his affinity. “About
After dinner, Jason reminded Leo of how upset Anaya was yesterday and thought it would be best to apologize to her sincerely tomorrow. Leo knew that Anaya wouldn't forgive so easily and wondered what would be the best way to apologize. Sydney advised the boys that if they really wanted her forgiveness, they needed to do something incredibly thoughtful and sweet, like baking a cake. They loved the idea, but the only problem was they didn't know the first thing about baking.Sydney sighed at their ability to fight beasts and conjure up magnificent things, yet they couldn't do something as simple as baking a cake. She rolled her eyes, wondering how Varrick Darwin or Alex couldn't teach them such basic skills, but then again, how could they teach what they had no knowledge of? She agreed to help them out, and they stayed up all night just to prepare it.The boys always found a way to mess up the cake in the blink of an eye. Sydney was even afraid to blink, worried they would add too much
Anaya walked into an ancient building filled with cracks of time and layers of heritage. She entered her coldly colored room, took off her uniform, freshened up, and placed the white book on her study table, ready to analyze it as she had done for the past few days. While engrossed in the letters that only she seemed able to see, Anaya once again found herself puzzled by the book's secrets and enchantments.A figure slowly emerged from her slightly ajar white wooden door."Anaya, darling..."Anaya turned to see a woman in her late seventies with beautiful long white hair and wrinkles that spoke of a life well-lived. She smiled brightly as the woman walked in."Are you back from school?""Yes, Ma. I'm back," Anaya replied."How was it? How are your friends?" her grandmother asked."They're fine, Ma. Everything's fine," Anaya answered simply."I'm sure my darling Anaya is so popular and has lots of friends. Do you want food? I'll make it," her grandmother offered."No, Ma. You've been o
Leo, Jason, and Anaya made their way to the detention room with sad and solemn expressions, taking measured steps toward three hours of boredom and annoyance."Can't you just make the Dean fall asleep again?" Leo asked hopefully."And what will we do about Derek?" Anaya countered."Can't you use a sleep spell on him too?" Jason suggested."Believe me, I've tried, but he has some super strong force field on his mind," Anaya replied, frustration creeping into her voice."Is it impossible to break?" Leo asked, curious about the kind of magic required for such a spell."Yeah, if you're an amateur. But don't worry, I'll deal with it soon enough," she said confidently. They stood by the door, hesitating between staying or running back home. The Dean walked by, spotting them instantly. He quickly pulled out a wand from his pocket, pointed it at them, and yelled,"What are you three still doing there? Time for detention!"They sighed and groaned, lowering their heads as they shuffled into the
---When detention rolled around and the four students sat quietly as the Dean watched them closely. Anaya and Jason hadn’t spoken a single word since Leo left them earlier, and their silence made him rather uneasy.Derek, being his usual self, tried to get Anaya’s attention as much as humanity would allow, but his efforts were anything but fruitful. The moment the clock struck five, Anaya left without sparing them a glance. Jason let out a sigh and placed his books in his bag. The Dean told them to leave as soon as possible so the workers could clean in peace. Derek picked up his bag and sneered at them before leaving with the Dean.Leo and Jason stood on the steps in front of the school's main gate, only to realize their carriage wasn’t there. They glanced at the row of fly cycles parked nearby and remembered Varrick’s words: They needed to start traveling on their own; the school run was over.Jason sat on the stairs, not in the mood to ride home just yet. Leo joined him and sugges
Leo got home with a solemn expression on his face. He had barely eaten his dinner and didn’t even flash his famous smile. Anytime Darwin, Varrick, or Sydney asked about school, he would only give one-word answers, which was unlike him. Darwin and Varrick assumed it was just the stress of school getting to him, so they didn’t press further. They were certain Leo couldn’t have been bullied—he was stronger than most of his peers and knew exactly when to fight and when not to. Sydney, on the other hand, thought otherwise and decided to speak with him after dinner. The night grew quiet once dinner was over. Darwin and Varrick, exhausted from running around Ivandale with Alex, quickly lay down to rest. The only sounds that filled the air were the night critters and animals, adding to the soothing sounds that come with the night.Leo had already snuggled under his covers, and the oil lamp was about to be blown out when two light taps came at his door. Instinctively, he said, “Come in.” Sydne
"I'll be back," Leo assured his friends, getting up to follow Sylvia. They moved to a quiet corner, and Sylvia struggled to get her words out."Why..." she began but trailed off, her mouth opening and closing with hesitation."Why are you hanging out with her?" she finally managed to ask."Who?" Leo asked, confused.Sylvia, too ashamed to clarify, looked away. Leo followed her gaze, his confusion growing when he realized who she meant."Anaya? She’s my friend. And if you really think about it, she’s the reason I’m in this school to begin with. Besides, I’m hanging out with Jason too," he explained, trying to clear up any misunderstanding."Please... please stop hanging out with her," she stammered, still avoiding his eyes."Why?""Because you can’t." Sylvia slapped a hand over her mouth, shocked by her own outburst. Her face flushed as she noticed the curious stares from nearby students."You don’t have a reason?" Leo asked, growing more puzzled by the second."I do! But... I can’t te
"What are you three doing together?..." the Dean echoed, grabbing Derek by the collar. They immediately dispersed and took their assigned seats. The Dean shook his head, too tired to even nag."You have a new inmate," he said, emphasizing the word inmate so sadistically it felt like they were in some inescapable prison—as if they wouldn’t leave in the next two hours and be tortured for his entertainment. He casually shoved Derek forward and pointed to a seat."Take a seat and be quiet..." he snapped. "Taking out a book or two wouldn’t hurt either," he added taking his sat at the table right in front of the class. As he took a sip of his coffee, Anaya stared at him intently and unwaveringly. The boys noticed this and became increasingly curious. After mere seconds The Dean yawned for a moment before completely passing out.Anaya couldn’t help but feel annoyed at how long it had taken her to perform a simple spell and make the man fall asleep. She silently promised herself to get better
---"Hello," she said with a smile."Hi?" they replied, clearly unnerved by her sudden friendliness."Candy?" she asked, offering a variety of sweets in her palm."Yes, please!" Leo exclaimed, eagerly taking one. Jason followed suit, unwrapping his piece and popping it into his mouth."It's poisoned," she stated with the straightest face.Their eyes widened in panic as they stared at her."I'm kidding," she said, laughing hard. "Goodness, you two are so gullible."Leo scoffed. "That's not funny.""You have to admit, it's a little funny. You should’ve seen your faces," she added, laughing even harder. This was the first time they’d ever heard her laugh, and it was so infectious that they couldn’t help but laugh along with her. It was impossible to stay mad."Did you find anything new in the book?" Leo asked, grabbing another "poisoned" candy."Not much," she admitted. "I found a few strange codes and some vague riddles.""Like what?" Jason asked curiously.Anaya opened her mouth to exp
---"Detention?!" Darwin and Alex shouted simultaneously, causing everyone to jerk in fear."Sorry, Father," Jason muttered, looking down at his feet. This was the first time his father had ever been called to school for bad behavior. None of them thought they’d be back in the student affairs office anytime soon, much less for something like this.“Finally…” Alex and Darwin whispered with sly grins spreading across their faces.Leo and Jason glanced at each other, a playful smile tugging at their lips. The shift in energy wasn’t lost on anyone. The boys' words caused an unsettling silence to descend upon the room. Alex and Darwin noticed the mix of disappointment, anger, and annoyance on the woman’s face and quickly backtracked.“I mean—bad. Very bad,” Alex corrected, coughing lightly to mask his awkwardness. Finally, they took their seats, all three teenagers sitting across from Miss Willowwan.“They were caught coming late to class, and I heard rumors they came from the stables doin
