Leo was looking at Darwin. He would never have imagined that there was a chance he would meet someone who knew his mother.
Leo was looking at Darwin, he was trying to make sure that he didn't even make a mistake. “You knew my mother? You called her name. Do you know her?” Darwin rubbed his head, he didn't even know what he was going to do. He looked at the boy in front of him. He didn't know what he was going to do to make Leo stop asking questions. “If you ask me any other questions I might blow my head away, but there is no way for me to do that.” Darwin looked at Leo. He knew that the boy was still confused and everything was happening all too fast. Leo saw that Darwin was a bit stressed out. He noticed that all his wounds were healed and closed. He was in good condition, and he knew that the man in front of him might have been the one that made sure of that. “Sorry, I don't know what to do, and it's been a strange ride for the past few hours for me. Please tell me how you knew my mother?” Leo asked in a calmer tone. He was looking at Darwin expecting an answer that would give him an edge. “I knew your mother, she was a skilled mage in our guild when she was still an adventurer. I am Darwin Fae,” Darwin smiled when he was telling Leo about himself. He wanted the boy to feel a bit safe and not worried that he was some kind of bad man. “You and my mother were comrades? That means you're a mage like her too, I am Leo.” Leo's face lit up a bit like that of a child when he heard that the man in front of him was a part of his mother's guild. Darwin smiled when he saw the boy's behavior, “No, my brother Varrick is the mage, I was the berserker in the guild. Your mom was one of the mages.” Darwin paused when he noticed that the boy was a bit sad. He knew that he was remembering Abigail, there was no way for him to forget his mother after all. Darwin took a deep breath before telling Leo he knew about Abigail's death. “Leo, I know that your mother is dead.” Darwin watched as the look on Leo’s face changed. He was not sure if it was the right thing to do for Leo, but he knew that he had to tell the boy that he was aware of the situation. Leo was a bit quiet for a while, it was clear that he was not going to be saying anything for a whole while, but he was aware his mother had died. Leo, who had enough energy, suddenly felt weak in his legs when he was reminded of his late mother. He didn't know what was going to happen to him. “I have to be one of the unluckiest people born into this world. I have no way of cultivating my mana core and I don't even know if I will be able to use magic in this life. Now, worse, I have lost my mom. I don't know what can make this even worse.” Leo was sulking, the pain of losing his mother was something he couldn't bear. Leo didn't know how he was ever going to survive in a world where magic and mana were everything. ‘It seems like in every life I was meant to suffer before I die.’ “And who in the world told you that you are not going to be able to use magic or cultivate your mana core?” Darwin asked the question as he was looking at Leo. He was shocked that the young man was so sure that there was no hope for him to use his mana core. “Other people unlock their affinity when they hit 15 years old. I am 17 and there is no sign of me being able to use my mana core or even unlocking my affinity.” Leo looked at Darwin, he sounded so sure that it was a bit scary for him to imagine. “It was deemed impossible by all the high mages in Lyron.” “You have the potential to become an S rank warrior; there is a two-layer seal on your mana core. Your mother used her druidic magic to seal your mana core when you were a child.” Darwin was looking at Leo, he didn't want to let him keep believing he was a weak man. But no matter what he told Leo, the boy was still in disbelief, he had done everything to make sure he got his affinity unlocked and had the power to make sure that nothing was going to hold him down. But everything he tried, nothing seemed to work, and he had lost all hope. He was not even sure there was going to be a chance he would be able to use the lowest type of magic. “What are you saying? There is no way I have magic. I have tried and tried.” Darwin looked at the boy before shaking his head. He knew that the boy was talking because he had not felt it yet. “You were able to kill an Orc Bear, you moved at speeds that even we warriors find hard to move at without using a mana coat. You then managed to kill the beast with one strike. You might not be able to use your magical affinity for now, but that doesn't mean you don't have magic.” Darwin looked at Leo, he saw the boy’s eyes widen, he knew that it was clear he didn't understand what Darwin said. “Why did mom seal my magic? There is no clear reason why she would even think of sealing my magic like that. What in the world is going on here?” “Your mother knew that if you were allowed to cultivate your mana core then your father’s enemies would have found you earlier, and it would have been hard for her to even think of any way to protect you. She did it to make sure that her son would live a long life with her before she died. I know you think that all I am saying is a big ball of rubbish, but think about it.” “Abigail loved you more than anything and would do anything to make sure that you were by her side. But a mother's love knows no bounds, even your father sacrificed himself so you could live.” Darwin's words were heavy, he looked down, his face covered in sadness. He didn't want to be the bearer of bad news, but he had to make sure he told the boy the truth. ‘If I don't tell him all he needs to know, then he will never agree to train. The only thing I will keep from you is the amount of power you hold and your father's origin. Abigail made it clear that she didn't want you to know what you were until you had broken the second seal. Until then, I will ensure that you train to learn how to control your powers as you break the seal.” Darwin looked at Leo as his thoughts ran a bit wild. He knew that it was going to take a lot to make Leo train, but he needed to be sure that the boy would be up for everything they were going to be doing. Leo was still quiet, he didn't believe that there was something that would even show him that he had enough mana to become a warrior that would be that great or even reach a level of power that the people of Ivandale respected. “So you're telling me that there is a chance that I will be able to get my affinity?” Leo looked at Darwin, he had a smile forming on his face. Darwin smiled as he looked at Leo. He knew that convincing him that there was hope for him was going to be hard, but he was going to be doing everything in his power to make sure that nothing was going to hold Leo down. “You are going to make one heck of a mage when you train hard enough.” Darwin looked at Leo when he saw that there was a sign of hope on his face. “I don't wish to be a mage,” Leo said in a deep voice, he was not going to be a mage. Darwin tilted his head to look at Leo to find out what he had in mind. “Then what is it you want?” Leo had flashbacks of his past life and the moments he didn't have the strength to stand up for what was right. ‘All my life, I kept running from everything and everyone that came my way. I have never done anything in my life that will be seen as something brave. I kept hiding behind others. I kept running from the world. But no MORE!’ Leo clenched his fists in rage. He had decided that he was going to become someone stronger. To avenge his mother’s death and make sure he left a mark for himself in the world. Leo looked at Darwin, “I want to become the strongest warrior in Ivandale!” Darwin was a bit surprised that the boy was that ambitious. “Is that so?” Darwin scratched his head, he turned to look at the other side. “You will have to take your training as serious as hell if you want to become a warrior that will make Ivandale recognize you. That means Dungeons, quests, and adventures. You will have to take everything seriously and commit to being the best. Are you ready for that?” Darwin looked at Leo, he wanted to get the boy’s response. Darwin was not going to train Leo if he got an arrogant answer from him. He needed to know that the man he was going to train would be a warrior who would be a strong but compassionate man. “I am willing to go through the pain, please teach me to become a warrior and break these seals.” Leo knelt, bowing his head. He was going to make sure that nothing would stop him. A smile formed on Darwin’s face. “Sheesh get up, your training will start tomorrow. You need to meet Varrick first,” Darwin sat down and noticed the smile that had formed on Leo’s face, he was not going to let the boy down. Leo, with a smile imprinted on his face, looked at Darwin. “Thank you, Master.”Leo was filled with hope, knowing that there would be a chance for him to become a stronger warrior and make sure he changed his life. “Master Darwin, if I am not mistaken, you also knew my father, right?” Leo smiled as he looked at Darwin. He wanted to learn more about his family before his training began. Darwin looked at Leo, the sad young man he had seen a few minutes ago had vanished, and he was looking at a boy who had hope, and he was going to do anything to make sure that he didn't fall back into depression. “Yes, I knew your father, he was one of the funniest fellows I met. He had a temper, a very nasty one, but when we got to talk to him, it was clear that he was a good guy. But even before we found out that he was a good guy, your mother would always be the one to knock some sense into him.” Darwin smiled as he was telling Leo about his parents. It was a clear sign that he had enjoyed his time with his old companions. Something that would always comfort him. Leo cou
“What do you mean by explode? There has to be an explanation for this, there is no way he is going to explode!” Darwin was looking at Varrick. He was a bit confused on hearing that Leo was going to explode if he tried to break the seal without training. “It means the seal that Abigail put on him is even stronger than a grade five scarlet core seal. For some reason, she wanted to make sure that he was not going to find it easy breaking the seal.” Varrick was looking at Leo. The boy was going to have a hard time thinking about breaking the seals, and it was going to be the hardest thing he could imagine doing. “You mean Abigail used that kind of spell on her son? But what was her reason for even putting it on him? I know that there were people after her, but then that means that there has to be something else she didn't drop in that message.” Darwin was not going to be thinking of what he was going to be doing that quickly. He had promised Leo that he would train him to break the se
The three stepped outside for the match to begin. Leo looked around and saw that they were deep in the heart of the forest and there were critters around there. Leo could feel the mana in the area, he saw that everywhere was filled with magic, and it was clear that there was a huge amount of mana there. “There is a huge amount of mana in the area, so I guess that all this is at the white mana core, right?” Leo looked at his master, he was waiting for Darwin to tell him that he was right. “Well no, the area is filled with Light Blue Mana Core.” He paused to see a defeated look on Leo's face. “Don't feel bad that you didn't get it right, it's not the end of the world. They feel like white mana cores and act like it, but that's one perk of the Heio forests; they don't usually give off what they are. You see, that way there is no one trying to cultivate the entire area for themselves.” Darwin paused when they had reached a particular area, “This is a good spot, it has all the space we
Darwin and Varrick were looking at Leo, they were shocked to see that the boy was still cultivating mana like it was something he would do normally. “This is pretty scary, how in the world was he able to break through the first seal and reach his dark blue mana core like this? This is something that needs to be studied.” Varrick was looking at Leo, he was emitting energy that only people who were strong warriors would have. Darwin laughed when he saw what Leo was doing without even being aware. “I don't know about you but all I see is a warrior that is ready to dance with me, I want to see what he can do,” Darwin said looking at Varrick, he was ready to face Leo in the sparring match. “You better be careful, for all we know, this boy doesn't even know his strength. There is something about his abilities that is still not settling right with me.” Varrick was looking at Leo, he didn't want his brother to lose his life all because of a foolish game he was going to be playing. “Don't
It had been four months since Leo had gone to Heio and discovered that he had a seal in his body. He had begun training with Darwin and Varrick to ensure that he broke the remaining two seals on him. It had taken two months for Leo to reach the intermediate sword master level and it was not easy for him but there was no way he would be seen as a normal warrior after what he and Darwin had been through the last four months. Both of them were sparring outside, the air was filled with the sound of their clashing blades. It was a hell of a spar, Leo had improved to the extent that he could push Darwin back to the wall. “You're getting better at wielding your sword Leo, I know in three months you will be a full-on sword warrior and nothing is going to be stopping you,” Darwin said as he tried to land a blow on Leo, but with everything he tried, Leo would react with a faster and stronger defence. “You keep saying that to boost my freaking ego, knowing it might be working. I will get to
Leo and Darwin walked back to the treehouse, and they walked into Varrick making a potion. He was deep in concentration and everything seemed to be glowing. Varrick was trying to find a way to make sure that they broke the remaining two seals and unlock Leo's affinity, but in everything he had checked, there was nothing he found that was going to help him. ‘He is a Dragonborn and I don’t know the first thing about Dragonborns and their affinity. Only the heavens know how long it’s going to take to bring it out.” Varrick was lost in his thoughts, he didn’t know what the outcome of the entire research was. “You look busy,” Darwin said as he looked around trying to make sure that he wouldn’t tip anything over. Varrick snapped out of the daze and quickly put a smile on his face. He wanted to make sure that there was no sign of worry on him. “You’re back early, so who won this time?” Varrick asked, still with the smile on his face and looking at the two as they walked in. “The kid tho
Leo felt like the night won’t end. His thoughts roamed around. He was excited but scared about the dungeon raid. “What if Darwin’s plan fails? Would I be able to unlock the seal to reach my affinity?” Doubts crossed his mind but he was determined to achieve his goal. The stars disappeared and the sun began to rise. Leo did not get an ounce of sleep. “Are those eye bags?” Darwin asked, staring into Leo’s eyes. Leo staggered towards Darwin and pricked a smile. “Little eye bags. Anxiety got the better of me,” he yawned, cleaning his eyes with his palms. Darwin gently tapped Leo. “Don’t worry, you got this,” he motivated, smiling brightly. Leo smirked, cracking his fingers. “Yes, Master Darwin. Let’s go!” he exclaimed, excited. Darwin and Leo began their journey to the dungeon. They make their way out of Heio forest to the deep cluster of dungeons. The excitement was written all over Leo’s face. Darwin knew that he had to do all it takes to help Leo unlock his affinity. “About
Leo was aggravated. The sight of the people who killed his mom, made his blood boil. “…YOU WILL PAY!” he exclaimed. A cold, airy aura started flaring from his body. His eyes turned red and he began to growl. “What’s going on?” one of them asked. “Lando: Wind blade,” he said, as a gust of wind in form of a sword was directed towards Leo. Leo skipped through the attack, suddenly appearing in front of the man. “Spa-” “Too slow,” Leo interrupted, stabbing him in his left abdomen. “They did not tell us he was this strong,” said another of the men, as he moved backwards. Leo’s attention shifted towards them. He shuffled quickly, reappearing in front of the second man. “Flare: Gunshot,” Leo released a spike of fire from the tip of his sword, which passed through the chest of the second man. Leo unconsciously brought down two men in an instant. The anger within him made his mana sip out of his sealed orb. “LEO!” Darwin screamed. “Back to earth, Leo.” Darwin’s attention was all o
